Welcome to the Mighty Nein! - Wed Jun 13, 2018 5:57 pm
Ok, so I'm a massive nerd and absolutely love the incomparable D&D show, Critical Role. I fell in love with the new campaign's characters and decided to recreate them in 1/6th scale. So far I've only done two, but fully intend to get the whole gang together eventually.
I made a big post showing in detail how I put everything together, with lots and lots of photos - seriously, check it out as I'm only going to put sneak peeks in this thread or I'll be pasting in code all day!

Sooo, here's Nott, the Brave, the kleptomaniac, borderline alcoholic goblin and her new friend, Kiri the Kenku. :3

Wurka Tsunjo - Sat Jun 09, 2018 10:53 pm
A custom space pirate I did a few years back.
His name is Wurka Tsunjo
- Earth Born
- Prefers to be called an 'independent businessman and galactic adventurer' more than being referred to as a Mercenary
- A fan of Antique Earth weapons and ultra classic western films from Earth
Turnaround view :
Base :
Wanted to build a base on an angled slant instead of a flat base (something different at least) which allows for more dynamic poses !
The main base :
Support structure underneath the main base :
Nothing complicated - pieces of wood, used sprues some plastic tubes and anything else I can think of to add a bit of 'busy' below the main base.
et voilà !
Mechanical hand :
Simple build with wires, plastic tube and beads
That's all folks and thanks for dropping by !

Kitbash UFC Champion Forrest Griffin - Fri Jun 01, 2018 12:28 pm
The Head Conversion Tutorial inspired me to embark upon another little kitbash project I have been intending for awhile now. There are these cool little 6 inch (15 cm) UFC Ultimate Collector figures, with cartoonish proportions but pretty realistic head sculpts, which seemed to me almost suitable for using with sixth-scale bodies. I wondered about it and eventually bought a couple. I intended to do Michael Bisping (and still will), but the one that really grabbed my attention was Forrest Griffin (perhaps because his mug reminds me of a friend from undergrad). Although in some ways it is a very simple kitbash, I really wasn't sure whether it would work out. I was pleasantly surprised by the result.
That said, this is still a Work in Progress (among other things, I might repaint the head, although my lights do exaggerate the mismatch a little). I matched the shorts to one type worn by Forrest Griffin and replicated the logo (although it is not really very visible), and based the photos on actual photos of the real guy.
The original figure:
Can we/should we try this?
Considering the difference in figures, this does seem to work surprisingly well...
Hope you liked it.

My Finished LOTR/TH Gondorian/Numenorean Wraith 9 of 9 Dol Guldur Battle Version - Wed May 30, 2018 11:44 am
Another one left to my own design as I have already made the only 6 designs they showed in the film with 3 doubled to make the 9.
I chose Gondorian armour as my inspiration for this Wraith though technically he would be Numenorean (Elendil was the first Numenorean King), a race that created Gondor after their island home of Numenor was destroyed when the world changed from a flat disc into a globe.. (yeah gets pretty confusing and weird!), well some of the Numenoreans did, they were called The Faithful and worked with the Elves (who had granted them far longer lives than normal mortals and taller stature, Elendil was 7' tall apparently..in thanks for fighting with them in some war about something at some point..). The other Numenoreans became the Black Numenoreans who despised the Elves for their immortality and chose to worship the 'The Dark' at Sauron's promise that it would provide them power and longer lives; turns out it didn't really as they all got massacred fighting for the Witch King Of Angmar a 100years later although some surviving descendants became the Haradrim.
I kept the wings motif that Gondor Armour uses on everything plus the full plate armour with mail kama/skirt they use. I then went a bit 'Clive Barker' on that foundation so you may see the odd nod to Cenobytes even though Wraith have no 'Flesh to tear apart!'

Custom/Kitbash: Cigar (or Cigarette) Girl - Mon May 14, 2018 2:13 pm
The Cigar Girl’s history began in the Roaring Twenties, an Era during which America enjoyed considerable prosperity, particularly in urban centers. Fueled by this newfound wealth, entrepreneurial restaurateurs began to expand their establishments from pure eateries to “supper clubs,” a destination where patrons could spend an entire evening eating, drinking (despite Prohibition), socializing, and listening to live music.
The Cigar Girl was a common fixture at such clubs. She was always a pretty, young girl who wore a bright (often red trimmed in black), short saloon-style dress and sported a pillbox hat. Around her neck, she holstered a tray with a considerable selection of cigars, cigarettes, and various other tobacco products and sundries. Depending on the venue or the wishes of the restaurant’s owner, she might also carry candy, snacks, drinks, chewing gum, flowers, or novelty items.
The job of a Cigar Girl was more than just selling tobacco products; she was part of the ambiance, mixing among the patrons while adding a touch of class and full-service. The Cigar Girl relied on her charm, quick wit, and a flirtatious manner to catch the attentions of businessmen, who would tip graciously for the pleasure of speaking with such a beautiful young woman. She was often described as being the “life of the party,” and thus while refrains of “cigars, cigarettes?” certainly enticed tobacco buyers, most customers were paying as much for her company as they were for her wares (and no, not as prostitutes).
Within a few short years the Cigar Girl archetype had been well-established by Hollywood, which had depicted her in many films of the time, and when the Eighteenth Amendment was finally repealed in 1933, she had caught on as a cultural icon: Cigar Girls could be found in restaurants, social clubs, bars, casinos, and even airports. Her popularity continued to soar through the postwar era into the 1950s, when she could be seen at sporting events and in the lobbies of theaters and music halls during intermissions.
Audrey Hepburn as Frieda the Cigarette Girl in Laughter In Paradise (1951)
Model/actress Josie Maran in the Aviator (2004)
But eventually, the Cigar Girl fell victim, as so many things do, to modernity. The mid-1950s brought automated vending machines which worked for free, and could earn the venue-owner a tidy profit besides. Changing attitudes about smoking aside, the Cigar Girl was increasingly seen as a bygone relic.
These days, you are more likely to see a Cigar Girl at a Halloween or Costume Party than you are inside a big city night club or hotel. But even though she has been largely relegated to a romantic yesteryear curiosity, there is still a demand for her services. There are still companies today (like Mrs. Bella’s Dolls) that specialize in hiring out models for private parties and corporate events whose organizers are looking to add a touch of old-school sophistication to their event. And though cigars and cigarettes can still be seen on their trays, their are Vape alternatives also in evidence.
My Cigar Girl was a long-time in the making. I knew the first time I saw the basic saloon-style dress and stockings from Super Duck a few years back what I was going to do with it. It’s taken me a very long time to gather all the things I wanted her to carry. I gave her as big a variety of items as I could reasonably fit on the handmade tray, wanting to make sure she could cover the gamut of possible items her patrons might desire.
This little project reminded me of when I turned 18 (just before going overseas while serving in the Air Force) when my Dad took me to the Playboy Club he belonged to (not sure they still have Playboy Clubs today). While there weren't Cigar Girls dressed like this one or the lovely ladies in the photos, there were Bunnies acting in the same role. It was a fun and nostalgic trip down memory lane for me.
Hope you enjoy.
The tray is made from balsa wood and wrapped with ribbon. Although I don’t show it, the cash box (all in black w/ a red ribbon pull) does actually contain different denominations of US currency.

Thor custom and other Marvel heroes - Sat May 12, 2018 7:51 am
I found this board this week and happy to be here. This is my first post on this board.
I just finished my Thor custom and like AFM, I feel the M35 body is a great way to start.
Using the M35 I added Sideshow Monty Python Knight pants (thanks to an idea by Betic1 on SSF) which was quite difficult. I eventually had to cut out the lining of the pants to get it fit and resew the top of the pants which I had to cut. I added height extenders which made the figure wobbly but added tape to give a little stability. I also needed to add tape to the foot pegs to get it fit in the SS boots.
Anyway enough writing and here is a pic:
Here is Thor with some allies:

TBLeague / Phicen M35 updated (photo heavy) - Wed May 09, 2018 4:16 pm
Update: I have posted the review and smaller selection of images in post 14 below.
Disclaimer: very photo heavy (over 70 photos).
Despite the long period of time that elapsed since their last base male body was released, TBLeague's M35 appeared so quickly after being announced, that I was a bit late to the party. And shooting photos and writing a detailed review took quite a while. You can find the review itself in post 14 below, but I took a ton of additional photos. You can see many of them below (some of them being larger and clearer versions of what was already included in the review).
Remember that M35 comes without any head sculpt, clothing, or accessories (besides the removable set of feet, three sets of hands, and two sets of genitals); everything else you see here has been added on for the photos; the body itself has been modified by painting the nipples for added realism.
SET 1: COMPARISON PHOTOS (4)
Here is the M35 body compared to its immediate predecessor, M34, and also to the previous three Phicen/TBLeague releases (M32-M34).
SET 2: JOHN CENA AT THE GYM (4)
I had repainted this John Cena head and it matched the M35 body, so I figured this would make some sense. If the head is too shiny, that's the fault of Vallejo's matte varnish, which is not matte enough -- I've since repainted it again, this time without the varnish.
SET 3: ARNIE ON THE BEACH (14)
Recreating a number of actual photos of Arnold Schwarzenegger exhibiting the results of his bodybuilding on the beach. Sand (or at least the kinetic sand I used) loves the silicone TBLeague bodies; I can't say the feeling is mutual.
Then there are the series of photos of Arnie showing off on the beach in the company of at least three different ladies...
SET 4: ARNIE AT THE GYM (6)
Recreating actual photos of Arnold Schwarzenegger exervising at the gym.
SET 5: CONAN AND TERMINATOR (5)
Recreating a few frames from the movies. I have upgraded my custom Conan the Destroyer with the M35. Not sure how well my ambitious attempt to recreate the Terminator's arrival worked out, but the point is, the body can make the right pose. Now if it only had an additional pair of feet with bent toes... (this time I didn't substitute any from ACI).
SET 6: THOR (6)
Reconstituting my custom non-superhero Thor (still played by Chris Hemsworth) with M35.
Chris Pratt decided he had to bulk up, too... M35 works quite well with the HT Star Lord 2 head sculpt.
SET 7: THESEUS AND THE MINOTAUR (6)
The non-movie-based Theseus (still played by Henry Cavill) uses an M33, while my custom Minotaur (uncredited) has been upgraded to M35. The scenes are based on ancient Greek art.
SET 8: IVAN DRAGO (3)
I repainted the Hot Toys Ivan Drago head (and I have repainted it yet again since taking these photos), but it is still a little off. Perhaps it is that Hot Toys had still not perfected realistic head sculpts at the time it made it (Blitzway/DAM's Universal Soldier Andrew Scott was a much better rendition of Dolph Lundgen). It works reasonably well on M35, although in truth the head is a bit large and was designed to be used with a taller body. And yes, I don't have the right boxing outfit (the HT booted feet were too small anyway), so just imagine him as a MMA or UFC fighter.
SET 9: DUTCH from PREDATOR (26)
Sometime ago I noticed that my Hot Toys Dutch figure had mysteriously broken at one knee. I tentatively repaired the damage, but have been thinking of finding a better permanent solution. Although M34 would probably be better both for appearance and articulation (as it will not fill up the tight clothing quite as much and therefore remain more poseable), I tried out the Arnie head, outfit and gear on M35. It worked remarkably well, although the fit is very tight, as might be expected. I suppose it helped that the camo shirt was sleeveless, although it still barely fit. The long pantlegs and sleeves of the overshirt/jacket show that it is possible to cram M35's muscles into such clothing, although it was admittedly designed for a type of muscular body to begin with. If I were going to use a TBLeague body as a permanent solution here, I will probably go with M34.
The first five photos convey an appearance only really seen in the "making of" footage, but would show off the body better.
The remaining photos are all based on actual frames from the film, in chronological order. Why did I take so many? I got carried away with research and trying to replicate what we see on the screen. Why did I post so many of them? Not quite sure; it was hard to choose between them, especially as many came out pretty well.
I hope this has been a good overview of the potential and possibilities with the new M35 body. Let me know what you think.

Archive "old" work: "I present you... the ballistic missile submarine Red October..." - Wed Apr 25, 2018 2:04 am
Okay, before I start posting some of my really long and complex past project threads, I thought I'd do another short quickie. This one's from about two or three years ago, so much more recent than that fally I just posted. HFRO is still one of my all-time favorite action dramas, and I had always wanted to do a 1/6 Marko Ramius.

Tunic: Toys City school uniform set
Pants: Dragon K-19 set
Shirt: DiD (don't remember which, one of the white collarless ones)
Shoes: DiD (don't remember which)
Shoulder boards, chest ribbons, gold buttons, star and bars on sleeves: K-19 set
Peaked cap: ITPT black SS, with Dragon German chin cords (painted gold) and K-19 cap badge
Medals on right breast and wreath insignia on cap: scratch-made by me (talk about eye strain!)
I managed to pick up the Dragon K-19 set for a decent price on ebay a while ago, and I always had wanted to use it on a Marko Ramius figure. That set's uniform is totally wrong for Ramius, though, but the overcoat and fur hat works. Then the COO Teutonic knight came out with a decent Connery sculpt, so I got that. And finally someone on this board [OSW] in another thread mentioned the Toys City school uniform as a good match for Ramius' uniform, so I purchased that as well and pretty much had all my parts to get started, minus shirt and shoes which weren't too hard to find.
I took whatever insignia I could use from the K-19 set, including those nice gold buttons. Cutting off the stars and bars from the sleeves meant destroying that tunic, however, so I was committed. I had to modify the bars by reducing the number from four to three and also painting in the gaps with gold paint to better represent Ramius' markings. Shoulder boards are modified with one gold stripe painted out and one star added to the existing two (from the extra shoulder boards on the overcoat). Unfortunately the medals on the K-19 tunic were just stickers and not realistic at all, so I redrew and cut them out of styrene and painted them and coated them with Future (fortunately I had a little gold star left over from the shoulder boards I could use on the diamond shaped medal).
The tunic is a very close match in cut and shape, except for lacking the breast patch pockets. I didn't end up trying to make those because a) I didn't have any matching material to make them out of b) I was lazy and c) you can barely see it in pics because of the black uniform. The material by the way is very fine and smooth and the tailoring is really sharp with nice padded shoulders and fully lined. However the pants were very modern and skinny, which would have looked wrong for the mid 80s uniform look so I used the K-19 pants. The material doesn't quite match but the black color hides it well.
I like how the cap turned out even if it's oversized and not the perfect shape. The black SS cap had the correct white piping (the one on the bottom was painted out), and when you add the gold insignia and details and also a styrene stiffener in the crown it looks okay. (cutting out those little wreaths and scribing them really tested my patience!) Good enough for a prop accessory. Ramius never wears his cap during the movie—the only scene where he has it is pictured above when he meets Jack Ryan and Capt. Mancuso for the first time.
The headsculpt needs a little work to better look like Connery in the film. It's not a perfect resemblance but not bad IMO. I repainted the beard and hair and eyebrows and lowered the hairline just a bit. What I should have done was also resculpted more hair around the widow's peak, but I was lazy and just wanted to try it with paint. The skin tone is lightened with some airbrush work as well. Here's a before pic, courtesy of Rattlesnake Toys, from whom I bought an extra sculpt as insurance and to practice on.
At the end of it all I had a spare head, extra pants, overcoat, and fur hat, so all I needed was another pair of shoes, a scarf and some gloved hands to represent Ramius when he stands on the bridge in that iconic opening scene.
I added binoculars to give him something to hold, even though he's just holding on to the edge while Borodin scans the horizon with his binoculars. You'll notice how tan his skin is (I didn't do any airbrush work on this one) and that my beard/hair repaint was not quite as finished, since this was the "practice head." BTW I only have one of those cap badges, so it's attached by Blu-tack to the peaked cap in case I want to put it back on the fur hat.

DAK Pzr Grenadier Using Alert Lines DAK Uniform set. (Pic heavy) - Tue Apr 24, 2018 4:13 am
Ok, So this is the last DAK figure I put together, probably just before Christmas I think.
Whilst it is not a new figure, it hasn't been seen here in any detail so I thought I would post up the pics I took whilst I was putting the figure together.
Here is what I started with, A DiD body and head sculpt, and the Alert Line DAK Infantry soldier uniform set.
This is a good set with a lot of very nice uniform parts for creating a DAK soldier. As well as several uniform options it has a basic set of infantry equipment which is of not too bad a quality but I think better can be had, and as you will see the equipment I ended up using was not all from this set.
I did use mostly the basic uniform parts from the set as can be seen in these pics. The epaulets and cap soutache were repainted to have green waffenfarb signifying Pzr Grenadiers rather than the white infantry ones supplied. The boots from the set as used here are ok, but if I am honest the DID ones from the Luca set I think look better.
The main reason for my getting this set was the greatcoat, as I didn't have a figure wearing one and it is another piece of early DAK specific kit. Later on standard great coats were issued, but this early type as far as I am aware was only really issued in Africa. The coat is not a bad representation, it's shade of brown is debatable, but I think is ok from the research i have done into this.
The equipment on the figure was a mix of the stuff from the Alert Line set and my favourite pieces mainly from DiD again.
The belt, Y straps, bayonet frog, goggles and ammo pouches are alert line. 2 sets of ammo pouches are pictured here as I was debating whether to go brown or black with these and I forget where the black versions are from. The entrancing tool, bayonet, canteens, mess tin, gas mask canister, helmet and rifle are all DiD. The A frame pack and bag are Dragon I think.
Here are some pics of the equipment before fitting, and as it went onto the figure.
And lastly some pics of the completed figure, and pics of him in place on my Kettengrad Diorama.
Hope you enjoy the pics, and as always any comments are welcome.

Suicide squad - Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) - Sat Apr 21, 2018 8:53 pm
I found the movie quite poor except for Margot Robbie which saves the thing with Jared Leto, so I had very little interest in the figures, but my girlfriend gifted me the prisoner version of Harley Quinn.
I was so surprised by this refreshing and awesome figure while it is very basic, so I decided to build myself a more "iconic" version, just grabbing the head and a few extras to mix with my prisoner Harley.
Anyway, here is my queen of Gotham! Hope you'll like!

Custom Star Trek Chris Pine Captain Kirk - Fri Apr 20, 2018 12:10 am
While waiting for QMX to get around to following up their stellar series of Firefly and Star Trek captains and crew (Mal Reynolds, James Tiberius Kirk, Jean-Luc Picard, Spock, McCoy) by releasing the new Kirk, I couldn't help but kitbash my own.
Most of the outfit is from the 12" Playmates Star Trek Command Series Kirk (partly modified), on a new body, with a new black undershirt, and new boots. The head is new too, partly repainted (eyes, sideburns, eyebrows, hair). It was ironic that I darkened the hair to make it look more like Chris Pine, but then had to lighten it up with highlights to approximate his appearance in the films (the hair sculpt is not quite exact but I wasn't going to recarve it).
Here are a few photos of the custom/kitbashed Kirk, with the other Star Trek characters produced by QMX (except for George Hamilton).

Some of my collection/display (a few non 1/6 scale) - Thu Apr 19, 2018 10:39 am
I've been quite lacking in creativity and productivity lately, along with trying to cut down on spending, and taking up new sports/hobbies.
With no new ideas/concept to build new customs, I'd just like to share some of my old pieces along with my modest collection/display. I hope you don't mind.
Here's one of my cabinets, the ones on display represent around a third of my collection, the rest are stored away in boxes.
1st Shelf: Play Arts Kai's (slightly smaller than 1/6, around 10 inches), they're characters from an RPG series, Final Fantasy.
[From left to right: Vincent, Tifa, Sephiroth, Cloud, and Gabranth]
2nd Shelf: 5 customs I've made these past few years. (If you'd like to see more, click on their names/link below.)
[Lara Croft, Tifa Lockhart, Eve (Cyber-girl), Akane (Kunoichi), and Amanda (Vampire Hunter)]
Most of these haven't had any changes to them after completion, with the exception of Lara and Tifa. Lara's had various updates/changes these past few years, while Tifa only had one.
3rd Shelf: Mostly Batman/DC stuff. I'm still waiting for the HT Joker (Arkham Asylum) to go with Harley.
[Harley Quinn, Batman, Arkham Knight, and Wonder Woman]
Harley is by Supermad Toys, while the body is Phicen. I'm very happy with Supermad's sculpt, I've had the Momtoys version and I really hated how that one looked. With Supermad, they give you two head sculpts. A regular one looking straight, and the second one (as shown) looking to the side with messier/worn makeup.
4th Shelf: This space is just mostly empty/undecided, its too low for any 1/6 figure to stand. So I just let Scarlett/Black Widow sit there all alone.
And lastly, here's a few more non 1/6 I have.
Some more Mini Final Fantasy VII characters, you probably know by now, I'm crazy about Final Fantasy 7
Gundam Wing Zero (RG 1/144 scale model kit)
Mega Man X (Black Armor Ver.) by TruForce
This is all I have on display at the moment. Thank you so much for looking

- Lara's Updates (Click Here):
Lara Croft evolution. (Aside from the costume changes, I later switched to the muscular body.)
This is the current outfit I'm sticking with, the teal top is inspired by the classic video game version.
3rd Shelf: Mostly Batman/DC stuff. I'm still waiting for the HT Joker (Arkham Asylum) to go with Harley.

Here you should be able to see the paint application and the details on the makeup better
4th Shelf: This space is just mostly empty/undecided, its too low for any 1/6 figure to stand. So I just let Scarlett/Black Widow sit there all alone.
- Scarlett/Black Widow (slightly suggestive?):
- Here's some close-up of Scarlett, out of all the BW/Scar Jo sculpts, I like this one (Civil War ver.) the most.
And lastly, here's a few more non 1/6 I have.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Hashtags for topics on this forum - Mon Apr 16, 2018 11:36 am
To help with sorting and searching through this forum as we accumulate more and more topics (threads), I invite all members posting a new topic to add hashtags at the end of the first post. If you have already created a topic, you can go back to it, and edit the first post to include the hashtags of your choice. I have gone through a few topics started by others and myself and included some hashtags as a test, but feel free to add more of your own, where applicable. We do not seem to be limited in number of hashtags, so some redundancy is ok (e.g., both #lordoftherings and #lotr).
By clicking on a hashtag, you will be able to see all topics (threads) tagged with it -- you will be taken to a page containing the first posts in these topics (there may be further posts with additional info and images, so you might want to enter the respective topics and follow through). In Profile you can follow specific hashtags of your choice.
Working list of common hashtags below. You are not limited to this, and feel free to supply additional suggestions; so as to minimize the number of hits during searches, please do not put the # in front of your suggestions, which I will integrate into the list. At any rate this should demonstrate the principle of the thing. There are basically three types of hashtags that would apply: descriptive (like #historical or #outdoors), franchise (like #starwars or #aliens), and maker (like #easyandsimple or #hottoys).

New bashing project & question about SPEAR ELCS harness - Sun Apr 15, 2018 12:48 am
I'm going to tackle a new major project - bashing the GRS operators from the movie 13 hours - The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.
My plan is to start with Rone, the character played by James Badge Dale. He wears a SPEAR ELCS harness over his body armor similar to BBI's Raptor in tan, instead of Raptor's 3-color desert pattern.
My question is whether this harness has ever been made in 1:6 scale, and if so where could I find it.
Any information will be helpful. Thanks!

Marathon LOTR/TH WIP Custom Builds..Reaper/Rider Wraith Redone & Finished. - Mon Apr 09, 2018 11:04 pm
Carrying on from my thread on OSW which would be page 25 now, this is the 14th figure in this run (done plenty of other LOTR custom builds before) and the 7th Wraith. Since they only designed 6 Wraith in The Hobbit TBOFA even though they showed 9 (they doubled up a few designs and hoped we wouldn't notice for some reason..) I get to have fun designing the last three from scratch while staying in the spirit (no pun intended) of the already built Wraith, this one I'll call the Asian Reaper due to the armour I'm using mixed with a more European Grim Reaper vibe as I just think it will be a cool look for one of these Wraith that still seem to be hanging onto their cultural roots at this point before they become the classic Nine of the LOTR trilogy.
Tore the armour apart and straightened it in hot and cold water ready for paint after removing any laces.
