Max and Juno took a little trip to celebrate their friend Jo’s birthday (@thetinycellar on Instagram) and really enjoyed spending time by the pool - something they don’t get to do much of at home!

I cobbled this temporary diorama together in about half an hour.
The pool is a big plastic drawer filled with water and with wallpaper taped on the outside and scrapbook paper underneath. The floor and walls are just thick card covered in wallpaper samples, the window blind is a bamboo placemat and the plants by the pool were from a £1 shop ornament. (The potted ones are real living plants though!) I made the bench from a wooden plant holder and the side table was found in a charity shop.

I probably should have set this up elsewhere as I didn’t check if the drawer was watertight before I added any in (luckily it was!) and I remembered afterwards that there was a power socket at the end of my desk so yeah...don’t do that. Laughing Rolling Eyes

This is brilliant, and so effective. I would have thought you built a complex set, instead of the easy techniques you used. Beautifully done, and some truly great photos, as usual, Christine. Really like all the pics where they interact with the water. And love the behind the scenes pics — really neat to see how it was all put together. Awesome stuff.

Stunning work as always!! For a 'cobbled together' diorama, it's pretty incredible!  The props, poses, lighting, set-up, etc. are a delight to behold. I especially love how their swimsuits seem to match their personalities, so adorable!  I love you

And I'm glad you included a behind the scenes view -- I know some people feel like it ruins the magic, and most of time I can totally understand that perspective, but in this case I was insanely curious how you did the pool even while I was just scrolling through the photos, so to see how it was constructed was gratifying. I continue to be in awe of your ability to conceptualize spaces!

And lol, I'm VERY glad no one was electrocuted in the process. :'D

Beautifully built, staged, and shot. And I, too, appreciate the behind-the-scenes or making-of info. We all resort to some trickery (and some of us even to basic special effects) in creating the "publishable" versions of these scenes, but although this was "cobbled together" (I note the inventive use of duct tape and everything else you had handy), it still gives a very realistic feel to your environment.

To expand on my earlier post, this is post is fantastic in that it demonstrates the difference between the permanent diorama and the temporary still photo set, which is a better description, since it's only purpose is to shoot photos. Essentially, this is a scaled down version of the temporary sets that often have to be built for TV or something and because it it will only be viewed in photo, it does not have pass the close inspection a permanent diorama does. What one draws from the post as whole is how easy it is, assuming you know how, to build a convincing set that can be taken down immediately after the shoot. I love it!
