So a few months ago I bought one of those Jiaou dolls, which are similar to TBLeague but not as articulate. I ended up not using it for a while because it didn't work with some headsculpts I had, but just recently decided to put it to use; so I painted it and transferred the armor from the previous version of this character. Very Happy

It worked like a charm, by the looks of it. Great character. Which method did you use to paint it? Dye, oil pastel, or?

I was a bit apprehensive at first about the method. I used a few layers of watered down black acrylic paint; it kind of rubs off a bit with too much handling, but is easily fixed.

Interesting technique, but it seems to have worked. Nicely done.

Yes, it looks very well done, even if not a permanent solution. The oil pastel method yields excellent results, but it would take a long while to end up with a color this consistent.

I am in possession of some older oil pastels somewhere but haven't used them in a while (I took art classes at college a few years ago). Do you have any sample images of how the skin looks once used on them?

Yes, we have a thread on this and we put it in the Tutorials section, although it is not exactly a tutorial. Here's the link -- for the successful oil pastel technique, start with post number 16 (Ephiane); my most successful experiments with her technique are in posts number 39, 47, 48, and 58. We used Staedtler oil pastels, but any should work (provided they are not water-based -- which would wash off).
