Japan's First Beauty with a CHINESE NAME?

and btw, isn't this the same recycled white horse that we had with Joan of Arc?

skywalkersaga

skywalkersaga
Very pretty headsculpt.

And yes, it’s the same horse as Joan of Arc, Robin Hood, Henry V, etc. They must have made a ton of them, lol. (Just wish they weren’t so cartoonish looking, sigh.)

Looks like a nice enough set. Except maybe for the horse, although I have seen worse. Smile

The Chinese forms are due to machine translation from the Chinese product advertisements; I expect the Japanese versions will be revealed soon enough when stores start to post preorder information -- in fact it appears to be there already: Tomoe Gozen.

I edited it accordingly.

@skywalkersaga, @GubernatorFan.
What makes this horse cartoony? Is it the sculpt? Incorrect anatomy? or the colorful accessories?

I don't know much about horses and i was thinking of getting the war horse of Jeanne D'Arc, particularly because of the armor.

Re: the issues with the PopToys horse, it was discussed a bit in this thread about one that goes with the Henry V figure:

https://onesixthfigures.forumotion.com/t1672-new-product-poptoys-1-6-ex22-king-henry-v-of-england-double-head-sculptures-horse

If you scroll down, you’ll find some comparison photos that show a real horse’s head, eye, and nose shape which explains at least a little of why this one seems so ‘off’. There are anatomical issues with the body and hooves, but those are not nearly as bad as in some 1/6 horses I’ve seen. The most egregious issues in my opinion are the headsculpt and the pose, which is unrealistic to a real horse’s walking gait or standing position.

There has yet to be an equivalent Mr.Z horse in this particular style (tall, grey, with long mane, etc), but there was the Yili horse ( sadly sold out now), and the somewhat smaller Hanoverian horse (which, while not 100% perfect is a far cry more realistic looking than the PopToys horse).

Hope that helps! : )

Like I wrote, I've seen worse -- I forget the details at this point, but I believe it was discussed in one or two other threads, probably the Jeanne d'Arc one. There is something about the size and position of the head and also perhaps the overall overly-neat effect. This horse can do very well in a romantic fairytale setting, but doesn't seem very realistic, unlike (for example) the Mr Z products, and realism in 1/6 scale has always been pretty important to me. But in an instance like this, if a product "works" for you, you should not let others' preferences dissuade you. My favorite horse is the Mr Z Hanoverian, yet there is something a little atypical about its stance; but since it doesn't bother me much, it works for me.

Thanks for the info and the link!
I have to say, the first time i saw the Jeanne D'Arc war horse, i found the ears quite weird, as in Shrek-ears weird. Very Happy

Both are up on onesixthkit for reasonable amounts:

Standard = $200 USD (includes shipping)
Deluxe = $263 USD (includes shipping)

I didn't see the horse up yet.

The TBL was a comic character— just shares a name, nothing more.

Some pictures of mine (with horse). Go to say though that the head looks better in the promo pictures than in reality. The trousers and coat are really nice (since I wanted to see them, I took the armor off).

Once inside, she started sparring with TBLeague's Tomoe. Or maybe they were attacking each other for being imposters.

They're metal. Look good to me. I'll make some pics of them later.

brassco wrote:wow...that's quite different from the promo pics...I'm glad i didn't make any po!
Yeah, the face doesn't resemble the promopics much, which is a shame, because I think that was really beautiful. The rest looks as advertised though. And I really like the coat and trousers (although the figure came with staining from the trousers, but since I'm not going to take them off that's not really an issue).

The armor was hard to get off her (several tiny knots).

Here are some pictures of the swords.
I've also put the sword of Phicen's Tomoe (which is plastic) in it, for comparison.
They're taken with just natural daylight. It was clouded, so lighting was a bit dim and the pictures turned out a bit darkish. They were lying on a white sheet of paper, which is greyish in the pictures, so the color is a bit off. The red scabbard is really close to its original color (on my screen).

As you can see both the swords that came with this figure have a wave-pattern at the edge. I guess that's intended and is to show the wear or frequent sharpening of the blade. I'm not sure if it's realistic, because I don't know a lot about swords. It looks OK to me, but the area might be a bit too big (it takes up about a quarter of the blades, it's more prominent on the katana than on the wakisashi*).

I'm not sure if making the blades out of metal improves them. The cutting edge of the plastic sword is sharper. Which kinda makes sense, because if they made the metal blades sharp, they'd actually be selling sharp knives, which probably isn't a good idea.
The plastic also feels smoother.
Downside of the plastic is that it can bend, which the metal doesn't. But IMO that's not really an issue.
The metal blades are a bit heavier.

You can see some greyish residue at the Wakizashi* at the point where the blade meets the hand protector. I only noticed that after taking the pictures. That seem to be some residue glue or something. I could scrape most of it quite easy.

* the katana is the long one, the wakisashi is the short one, if I'm correct.

Thanks for the pics, I do like these blades a fair bit. You are indeed correct, the katana is the larger of the two. The wave pattern along the edge of the blade is also typical of Japanese swords and is called a Hamon. It’s been around for awhile, and this article gives a quick run down of it.

I may have to pick these up. Still refining how I make my own, so a nice reference wouldn’t hurt.
