Very neat! Also, how nice that they include a backdrop for displaying these. Again, wish more releases would do that.

nice! I especially love all the accesories, the boxed walther looks very good, and that card shoe is so cool! Nice work as well on the tailoring except for James's coat, makes him look very bulky and makes the head looks undersized...

I watched this movie again just a few nights ago. The Joseph Wiseman likeness is better than Connery's.

They both look pretty great, although I agree with the comments -- the Sean Connery likeness is just a little off (though not bad), and between the way the coat is made and the expression on the face, they end up giving him what looks like a slightly undersized head and a very surprised or confused look.

The Walther looks off as well. The grip should be at a sharper angle and it should be textured, not smooth, with the distinctive Walther banner. The hammer should be more prominant. There are better ones on ebay for $3-4.

Not all that impressed with James, but I like some of his accessories. Definitely want Dr. No — vast improvement over the old Sideshow figure.

The Connery figure looks really odd to me almost as if this figure should have appeared in Gerry Andersons Thunderbirds, it seems to have that sort of caricature look to it.

I think the likeness isn't *horrible*, but the paint job is definitely rather flat...

It certainly looks like Connery, but it doesn't look life-like, more like a cartoon.

Admittedly I’ve never been all that into Connery as Bond (blasphemous, I know), so I feel a tad out of my depth discussing likeness details and whatnot. I can see what you mean about it looking a bit cartoonish; my observation was simply that the flatness of the paint has likely exacerbated that a bit.

I think Daniel Craig is the best Bond. His portrayal is certainly the closest to the Bond in the books. Casino Royale is the best Bond movie ever made. The scripts have been crap ever since but that isn't Craig's fault. Sean Connery is the second best Bond but Living Daylights is the second best Bond movie followed by Goldfinger.

I like Craig as Bond in Casino Royale, but aside from the card game sequence, and the torture scene in the wicker chair, the majority of the rest of the movie isn’t in the book. Dr. No and From Russia With Love follow the book’s almost exact — which is why those two are my favorites. The closest physical representation of the character to the book’s description is Timothy Dalton. All the gadgets and silliness was pure Hollywood. Bond was a “detective” more than a super spy. For myself, Craig is probably the second best Bond — but I agree, aside from CR, the rest of his movies have been pretty meh — Spectre, which should have been awesome, was a disaster — and Waltz was hands down a terrible Blofeld with easily the worst (all Hollywood contrived) backstory that had zero connection to anything in the books.

Ian Fleming originally wanted David Niven to play Bond.

David would have been an interesting choice, but sadly, he was probably too old by the time Hollywood got around to making Dr. No, and being a well-known actor it would have been difficult to plug him into the role without all the baggage that comes with that. But I can see why Fleming would want him, Niven always brought a level of class and sophistication to all of his roles. Oddly, the Bond in the books doesn’t always come across as classy as they made him, and more often than not, he usually ends up getting the crap beat out of him in a fight. Had Fleming been writing the Bond books back in the 30s, I think Ronald Coleman would have been an interesting Bond. Connery was a virtual unknown, and I know Ian Fleming didn’t like him at first (mostly because Connery was a “hick” Scotsman with a thick brogue), but once the studio gave him elocution and manner lessons, Fleming came around. I know the studio wanted Roger Moore at first, but felt he was too young at the time (he was doing The Saint then). Same with Brosnan (when he was doing Remington Steele) and they were looking to retire Roger, he wasn’t the right age, so they went with Dalton. The hiatus between Dalton and Brosnan was to give Pierce a little more time to mature.

Didn't mean to start a discussion about which Bond is 'better', as again, I feel a tad unqualified to comment on that, since I've not read the books. My comment had nothing to do with the merits of his actual portrayal of the character, I was just speaking about personal preference. Maybe it's due to my initial impressions when I was younger, but I never found Sean Connery all that 'attractive' in general.... so yeah, really just entirely down to personal taste. Wink

I did always find Timothy Dalton rather attractive, though that hardly means I'd argue he was the 'best' Bond.

Embarrassingly, growing up in the 90s my first impression of Bond was Pierce Brosnan. Razz

I enjoyed Casino Royale, though my appreciation of it was just as much down to Eva Green [major girl crush of mine] and Mads Mikkelsen as it was Daniel Craig. :'D

No worries, skywalkersaga. These things tend to happen frequently, and so long as the discussions remain civil, it’s something to pass the time until the figures come out. I usually find the tangent topics interesting, anyway.

Oh, good.  I love you

And yes, in this case, I've found the discussion quite interesting/illuminating. Smile
