These are adorable! Of course their price is probably a lot less so. At that point, we should be reminded of the only valuable thing Sex and the City has taught us (besides the fact that totally ridiculous female footwear is actually fashionable rather than held up as an object of ridicule -- furry sandals from Jimmy Choo, anyone?) -- and that is that a squirrel is just a rat in a fancy outfit.

Yep. I call them “yard rats” myself. These are cool though. If they keep each set under $20 bucks, they might be worth it.

Here’s a funny yard rat story for you — something I’d never seen in my lifetime before. We have a rabbit who hangs around our yard (I think she’s made a warren under our deck), and, of course, lots of yard rats. Anyway, last spring, the wife and I were watching a couple rabbits chasing each other around the back yard (mating season). About twenty minutes later, we saw our bunny, exhausted, laying down in the yard — but she kept getting harassed by this wily squirrel that kept jumping at her, backing off, coming at her from a different direction, over and over, until she swatted at him and chased him off. Then she lay back down to take a nap. Craziest thing I’d ever seen by the local fauna.

That is funny. I guess he wanted in on the action. You and Lady Darth Stryker are into some kinky stuff, for sure! Wink

Lol, GF! I did chuckle at the ‘golden rat’ title.

These are really cute, and would be wonderful addition to a forest-y scene. The grey one in particular looks very naturalistic.

Come to think of it (and I was wondering earlier), if this is a result of the machine translation from Chinese, does that mean that in Chinese there are no differing words for "rat" and "squirrel"? So the "Year of the Rat" ("of the Mouse" in some other cultures -- there's another one that might be subsumed under the same word) is actually the "Year of the Squirrel"? I kid... partly...

What- no black color phase version of the fox squirrel? They're ubiquitous to small towns and cities here in Michigan. And they need a bird feeder accessory so they have something to raid.

I remember the Michigan black squirrels. We even had a few of them in NW Ohio. We also had white squirrels -- mind you, not albinos (their eyes weren't red), but white (and no spots either). I used to feed one cashews... silly little thing. Eventually all of them disappeared, one by one. Can't have been easy blending in with the landscape (except in winter), and we had some falcons around...

Yeah, you don't see them outside of town. Just the regular version ( the white version sounds cool). And around me there's falcons, hawks, and a bald eagle hanging around - my poor chickens are nervous wrecks ( but I give them plenty of hiding places).

The red squirrel [not the fox squirrel, but the tiny European one with cute ear tufts] is the one that is native to the UK, but N. American grey squirrels are an invasive species here and have pushed them out of much of their habitat. There are still some conservation areas which can and do sustain them [such as in Northern England and Scotland], though they are rather elusive so you don't see them too often.

Black squirrels I mostly recall from visiting my Canadian relatives in Ontario, though it was the greyish/reddish fox squirrels that were most prevalent when I was growing up in Ohio.....speaking of which.... you lived in NW Ohio, too, GF?! :O

Hmm, considering you are an American expat in England, which squirrels are you rooting for? J/K, being silly... Smile

Bowling Green, and before that Ann Arbor, MI. But on the West Coast now.

I'm always a defender of native flora and fauna, since I feel it's best if ecosystems are in balance. ;D

And ha.... I know both of those places very well. I am originally from Toledo/Sylvania, myself.

I wouldn't say I know Sylvania well, but I have been to a few of the restaurants there frequently enough. Love the Toledo museum, but was generally advised to steer clear of trouble in the area... Smile

LOL.  It was an incredibly interesting job, and I do miss it sometimes. I already basically lived at that museum as it was... I'd studied both fine art and art history there, and grown up visiting it frequently. Nothing against my hometown, but it's definitely the thing I miss most about it [other than my parents, of course]. Laughing

But anyway, back to, uh.... squirrels? ;p

Unless they are stuffed and part of the display. It is sad how this kind of museum in particular is disappearing (not that I want animals slaughtered and stuffed, but if they are already...)

Ha, I presume you mean 'natural history' type museums? Surely there are still some of those around? At least the big name ones? I'm thinking of certain stuffed now-extinct animals I've seen before...
