EDIT: Threezero showed off their Taro figure prototype plus weapon/add on packs for ver7 suit and Tiga. pics on most recent post.

I decided to compile all the 1:6 modern (Iron Man style) Ultraman figures/statues I know of in order to see just how many there are and wow, loads!

I must admit, I never read the manga nor did I ever watch the tv series nor the anime version (sorry) but I do love the modern design armours and already have the Sentinel 1:6 Ultraman Manga version (well, a second hand lightly damaged one), the Threezero Stealth Ultraman, the Dimension Studio Ultraman Seven and the Dimension Studio Model kit of the 1:6 Manga version waiting to be built plus on the way are the Dimension Studio stealth Ultraman and Stealth Ultraman 7.3 plus Threezero Ace is on PO. So yeah, Ultraman is becoming my new Iron Man

Anyway, the list of figures I know of are as follows (divided by brand):

Sentinel (Hero;s Meister):
Ultraman (Manga version) Diecast figure
Ultraman (Limiter version) Diecast figure
Ultraman 7.2 (Manga version) Diecast figure
Ultraman 7.2 (Manga version) Weapon accessories pack

(Apologies for any errors I made, I am not expert on source material)

I expect Dimension Studio will follow with a kit version of Bemular (both painted and unpainted plus possible exclusive versions), Jack (figure and kit versions) and Zoffy (figure and kit versions).

It’s crazy how many of them there are. I do like the new designs, but aside from a few TV shows as a kid, this was never really one of my favorite characters.

I always thought of Ultraman as some sort of Power Rangers/ Super Sentai character and had zero interest but the new armor look is right up my alley so I am very happy to have cheaper alternative to Iron Man Smile I always wished HT did model kit versions of their Iron Men at a lower price point, that never happened but the Ultraman kits look great

Impressive compilation. Interesting to see how many of them are out there, and how many different companies have made them.

Honestly I am really loving the Dimension Studio ones (their 7 figure is like an Iron Man, is hefty and has loads of accessories while their kits are very affordable and give you a lot of customization potential), I'd say it is safe to skip Sentinel (they may be diecast but the red sections are not metallic and kinda 'plasticy' in look) and Threezero (Theirs are mostly plastic so the first couple are safe to skip but their Ace is very different from the other available and is the Anime version so do get that one). The Gecco one is non articulated so fine to skip also IMHO

My list for a great display:
Threezero : Ace and maybe the Anime version Ultraman
Dimension: Ace, 7 and Bemular diecast figures and Ultraman Kit

Just my opinion

No prob, just like to share info as I think many westerners do not know about half the products available! I have Threezero Ace (anime version) on PO but plabn to get the Dimension Studio one as the sculpt is completely different, unlike Seven and Ultraman where the differences are subtle if any (example: manga Ultraman vs Anime version is mainly slighly different amounts of red vs silver color and the Anime version has 'repulsor' looking things on palms of hands but otherwise they look near identical)

Currently in process of assembling the Stealth version kits of Ultraman and Seven, will have comparrison pics snapped soon

Sooooo, I finally finished assembling the stealth version kits by Dimension Studios.

I haven't done any painting nor applied the decals, and some areas need a little cleaning to remove the remnants of the nubs but otherwise they are done:

And Ultramans compared: Dimension Studios Stealth ver kit, Threezero Stealth ver figure and Sentinel figure.

What is interesting is that when I first saw pics of the Threezero one I assumed that it was identical to the previous Sentinel one and that the Dimension one was a kit created from same sculpt but each is in fact a unique sculpt and nothing appears to be re-cast or made from same tooling/files. All the similarities in construction and hand poses etc all seem to be perhaps just uses of same reference material and/or specific requirements by license owner. Maybe. Whatever the case, each has unique sculpt and proportions/features.

The first Ultraman figure by Sentinel (mine is used and prob a factory reject so a little scuffed and I cant find his accessories for comparison etc but will do for general comparison) has the best overall proportions IMHO, with a better sized head and also is constructed with metal parts. The paint however is not amazing since the red parts are not metallic and look plastic-y. They did do a second release with better paint but I do not own that one yet. The Threezero meanwhile is sleeker, slimmer and has some soft pvc areas to hide joint and improve poseability. It also has very nice paint and weathering though some reviews online point out QC issues (luckily mine seems fine). The Dimension Studios version has more Anime/Manga like proportions and more jagged angles, much more exaggerated in appearance overall. Obviously it is an unpainted kit so no paint apps to speak of and so doesn't look metallic in any way but it somehow works.
Biggest sculpt differences can be seen in the shoulder pads and chest plates as well as the forearms.

Ideally, I would love the Sentinel sculpt with Threezero paint aps, but since that never happened I think the ultimate Ultraman figure may well be the Sentinel release I do not have: the 2nd version they did in nice metallic colours. Shame it ain't cheap!

As for other differences, the original Sentinel release includes (but not pictured): 4 pairs of hands (fists, splayed fingers, semi pointing and relaxed) plus the 2 blue energy blades for the gauntlets as well as a mini tool to open panels/remove batteries. The Threezero stealth one meanwhile has similar hands (4 pairs: fists, splayed fingers, semi pointing and relaxed), red energy blades (not pictured), swap out gauntlet light cover parts (not pictured), a battery removal tool (again not pictured) and of course the alternate un-helmeted head that other brands lack.
The Dimension Studios brand version kit has again the same selection of hand poses in 4 pairs (fists, splayed fingers, semi pointing and relaxed), the two energy blades (in purple), 2 sweeping energy blade effects, a gauntlet blast effect, panel/battery removal tool and a few spare pieces of the small parts you may lose. No idea what the two double ring parts are for but they are there.

All in all the Sentinel brand figure has the fewest accessories while the Dimension brand kit has the most but I think Threezero wins for the extra swap out head.

As for the two versions of Seven I have, one is the finished figure with diecast parts in metallic red and silver while the kit is sold un-assembled in unpainted plastic.
EDIT: New Threezero figures and weapon packs! All 1:6 modern Ultraman figures and kits so far + reviews and in hand pics 49736610062_20bf5c29c1_bIMG_2204 by kraggy2011, on Flickr

Both appear to be exactly the same sculpt (well, they are the same brand) so to differentiate them a bit I used the alternate swap out parts on the calves since they have little plugs on them (not sure what for but hey it alters the look a bit).

Both the finished figure and the kit share the same weapon loadout (two rifles plus the back mount to hold them, two swords with scabards and articulated arms to mount them on and the two massive cannon things) plus the same swap out hip covers with sword mounting points but do actually differ beyond that:

The finished figure has 5 pairs of hands: fists, splayed fingers, sword sheath posing hands, big cannon gripping hands and some "trigger finger" gun holding hands. Meanwhile, the kit version has 8 pairs: fists, splayed fingers, sword sheath posing hands, sword gripping hands, big cannon gripping hands, "trigger finger" gun holding hands, slightly different "trigger finger" hands, relaxed hands and semi pointing hands. The kit also has the swap out parts for the calves I mentioned along with a few spares from the re-use of kit parts from the Ultraman kit. There is also the decal sheet with the kit but that doesn't really count as the finished figure has them pre-applied.

I dont exactly have slender fingers or a steady hand so I find it super fiddly to assemble figures and usually break something! but yeah, I took my time building the kit. easy to build such kits actually, just need side cutters, sand paper and something to clamp pieces together (figers start to hurt after a while so pliers are the way to go). For seamless figures I always wrap cling film (seran wrap) and stuff slides on a little easier. a little

jaztermareal

jaztermareal
I ended up building the normal Ultraman kit unpainted despite my plans to paint it first (not willing to wait any more for things to get sorted so I can buy airbrush and paints) so I will likely buy another later to paint up prior to assembly.

That said, I actually quite like the grey and red plastic look. It is a Manga based figure after all so it kinda works in my mind!

Thanks! I love robots, scifi, armoured characters etc so these are automatic buys for me despite never reading the manga or watching the anime. I just love scifi styled characters! But I do also love military and historical figures too. Only reason I dont buy much of those other kinds of figures is limited funds and space so have to focus on the most visually appealing classes of figures. If I had the money and the means I would just build a museum of 1:6 so I could display EVERYTHING 1:6 made. I love it all!

ah well.

Looks pretty cool. But I’m with you — when will companies learn not to limit their products like that. It’s one of the reasons I stopped collecting smaller figures (McFarlane Toys) years ago — trying to get that one in 50 figure without paying scalper prices annoyed the crap out of me.

It seems like a mean and dubious strategy to make money. How many of us would actually take pleasure in owning something because it happens to be unavailable for others on account of rarity and price? But that seems to be the excuse. I have no doubt that if these were produced in larger numbers and sold for a lower price, they will sell so many more as to offset the expense of producing them and still bring a larger profit at the end.

It is basically the 1000toys strategy: feed the scalpers, leave the rest peed off. I do feel lucky to own a couple such figures (1000toys synth test body, which after missing out on at SDCC due to it selling out in a few mins, I had to enter a lottery to win the chance to buy one of the last few) but I would much prefer that everyone who want a figure to get the opportunity to buy and the greater the production run maybe the lower the price point could be. As much as I hate certain things about HT, I do prefer their 'let everyone PO then produce to match demand' style. Well, to be fair they have done a few very limited releases in the past but normally if you want an HT figure you can get it (provided you can afford their ever increasing prices that is)

Right. If and when I do buy HT sets and/or parts, I do so because I like them (and tell myself I could afford them), not because I'd have something that someone else might not be able or willing to have. And if I like them, I'd like them regardless of the price; that last would play a role in whether I get them, not whether I want them. While it happens to be of little importance to me, I do get the notion that one can be proud having something that is rare (like an ancient coin or artifact or something like that), but I certainly find disturbing the notion that things currently produced should be made in small amounts and sold for indecent prices just so someone could tell themselves they are lucky (or something) to have gotten a chance to grab one and pay a small fortune for it, unlike the rest of us suckers. Same. For me the joy is in getting a design/character I like in a tangible 3D format that I can make a display with, like a museum almost, I do not collect for the bragging rights as I don't view figures as status symbols or investments but sadly many do. I can't stand seeing people buying up figures they do not want just so they can flip them later or (even worse) just brag about owning to make them feel superior to others. I have seen certain collectors buy up multiple of an exclusive figure (Iron Man gunmetal MK3's for example) seemingly to just reduce the number floating around the market (at least that is how it came off in many of the cases, perhaps they just love owning 10 of the exact same figure despite it not being an army builder character) which only goes to increase the price on the secondary market.

I do get a little schadenfreude though when I see HT announcing re-releases of in-demand figures and watching the meltdown among the speculator hoarders who were sitting on the first release figures assuming they could make a fortune off them, but I love more the joy from collectors who missed out before finally being able to get the figures for retail price.

So, Wonderfestival Shanghai had some new prototypes on show:

1: Ultraman (Diecast figure)
Diecast figure version of the Ultraman 1:6 kit. Looks to be painted more like the Anime version of the armour and will have new accessories.
EDIT: New Threezero figures and weapon packs! All 1:6 modern Ultraman figures and kits so far + reviews and in hand pics 50442969907_567cc7826c_h120541304_3298773000214658_8150108686111032544_o by kraggy2011, on Flickr

2: Ultraman 7.3 (Clear version plastic model kit)
A hologram style figure kit that actually does the effect better than the recent HT holographic Iron Man figure.

3: Weapon accessories pack
Add-ons for Ultraman/Ultraman 7.3 including sword, pistols, holsters plus 3 smaller blades and by the looks of it also alternate heavy canon weapons for the 7.3 (you can see them on a figure in the background of one of the Ultraman pics above).

4: The BIG one: Jack
This is the Ultrman equivelent of the Hulkbuster. It is beefy AF and will likely be made as a Diecast figure, a pre-painted plastic model kit and an unpainted plastic model kit. Must buy for me.

Additionally, the same brand (Eastern Model) is now making 1:9 scale Iron Man figure model kits that look amazing. If they do 1:6 I will be all in.

Great thread! I must admit, I've been tempted to buy a figure, but I never followed the series so I have little knowledge other than it exists. Seems like there's a lot of variations in the armors. I have a friend that is into the classic versions. I believe a company made those, which are more human form (ie man in a jumpsuit haha).

Yeah, I think there are a lot of the classic ones out there (Medicom and Xplus were a couple of the brands IIRC, plus I think Captain Action had an Ultraman outfit too) but I always prefer more mecha looking characters so the new modern "Iron Man" looking suits are right up my alley.

I do kinda want a set of the classic suit versions too, but modernised somewhat to look less spandex-like. Maybe something more akin to Iron Man's nanotech armour with a seamless look but still armour as opposed to a body suit. I dont think anyone made such a modernised classic suit figure but I think it could look good.
