The Head Conversion Tutorial inspired me to embark upon another little kitbash project I have been intending for awhile now. There are these cool little 6 inch (15 cm) UFC Ultimate Collector figures, with cartoonish proportions but pretty realistic head sculpts, which seemed to me almost suitable for using with sixth-scale bodies. I wondered about it and eventually bought a couple. I intended to do Michael Bisping (and still will), but the one that really grabbed my attention was Forrest Griffin (perhaps because his mug reminds me of a friend from undergrad). Although in some ways it is a very simple kitbash, I really wasn't sure whether it would work out. I was pleasantly surprised by the result.

That said, this is still a Work in Progress (among other things, I might repaint the head, although my lights do exaggerate the mismatch a little). I matched the shorts to one type worn by Forrest Griffin and replicated the logo (although it is not really very visible), and based the photos on actual photos of the real guy.

The original figure:

Can we/should we try this?

Considering the difference in figures, this does seem to work surprisingly well...

Interesting how close to 1/6 those heads really are. A good repaint and it would match the skin-tone of the figure.

Nice results.  There are a surprising number of these figures. Some with fantastic expressions.   Brilliant idea GF.

Thank you, DFC! Could that odd reason be all the hairiness? Smile

Agreed. From different angles it look almost large enough or sometimes even too large. This is a tricky head -- the ears stick out (which is actually realistic), but it otherwise looks smaller than the shorter-haired Michael Bisping head in the same series. In hand the difference is visible, but less obviously so. The hard part in repainting this would be the stubble.

Thank you, MarkEl. Glad it panned out so far. And I agree -- that's what caught my eye, though I think this is one of the best ones.

Wow! That's a really amazing conversion GF! If you hadn't shown the source (6 in fig.), I would have never guessed, it surprisingly scales very well, even the gloves too. Also the shorts look great. Smile

Thank you very much, Fox! I was surprised too, although it was nice to see my suspicion that this is doable was vindicated. The gloves are a little too cartoony (very clean, straight lines) but the real issue I hope to improve on with them is (1) making a tighter fit for the wrist pegs -- I tried with clear cement but still too loose for my taste, and (2) maybe boring more of a hole where they meet the lower arms, as they currently sit a little too low and make the arms look a little longer than they should. But this will be difficult, as they are not wide enough to leave much material to fit around the lower arm. The shorts are from a Max Steel figure; I removed the inside lining which was black to avoid potential staining (although I haven't experienced that problem with that line of products) and also to fit them on the TBLeague M35 for that review a couple of week back.

Thank you, Ephiane! Well it is much as you describe. I am not a big UFC fan (I just don't watch it), but I saw the potential of maybe doing such a kitbash, so I gave it a try. As for what you expected, technically that would be a forest gryphon. Smile A nice idea, but I suspect you'll make your own long before I get around to making mine.

That's nice work, GF.

He certainly looks the part. Using that sculpt was a stroke of genius and using the hands adds to the package immensely. Worked out very well.

Thank you very much, dadrab. I will see if I can improve the fit of the gloved hands, although it would be an uphill battle. I am not Shovelchop, after all. Smile

Thank you very much, ReverendSpooky. Yep, love the head, the look, and apparently the guy is pretty nice too (not very familiar with UFC myself, did some research). One of the cool things about this is that the sculpt actually does look like the real guy, who has these very features. I have since shaved off a bit more from the neckline around the base of the skull -- the short neck part (all of it now removed) was designed flaring out towards the bottom, and that was keeping the head from looking just right on the body from many angles -- it's better now.
