"A Star Wars Story has opened around the globe and is loved by fans and critics alike!" Really? Opinions have been all over the place, but on the whole pretty negative (and the box office reflects this). I didn't hate the movie, though I was underwhelmed, particularly by my inability to see Han Solo in the otherwise talented and likeable new actor. And, on principle, I object to the needless introduction of new trooper types (despite their silly name, the Mudtroopers are arguably an exception, as they represent regular imperial infantry, already established with a slightly different look in the original trilogy's "AT-ST drivers"). But I will make a partial exception here. He may be superfluous (a Scout Trooper would have done for this part), but the Patrol Trooper looks great. I prefer the design to any of the new stormtrooper types we have seen in the Prequel or Sequel trilogies so far, and I wish he had been given more screen time and a close-up. My only initial misgiving is the weathering. I know it is supposed to add realism, but I think they went over the top; I'd rather have a clean figure I could weather to my taste than a weathered one that could not be cleaned up. In particular, note the rather heavy-handed very dark grime atop the black panel in the middle of the chest armor. Was that really necessary? Oh well, it's not like it will stop me from getting one. Smile

The Sequel Trilogy style rubber sleeves put me off. I can see them splitting if left posed with the arms bent.

Nice design! Definitely has a motorcycle cop look to him, makes sense too having law enforcement dedicated troopers. As for the weathering, they're damned if they and damned if they don't, if he was on Corucant he would need to be all shiny but if he's on a mudball/dusty planet somewhere he's looking like he's keeping his kit in good order. You should see the amount of soot from pollution the Greek traffic cops have to put up with in Athens, especially from the buses! Get stuck behind one of those on a bike and you're coughing your lungs up!

It looks like I disagree with everybody! I have not yet seen Solo so my comments are based on first impressions of this figure and my experience of the other films.

Gubernatorfan, I like the new stormtroopers. I think the uniform reflects a sensible evolution. It also has a less clunky look and is more suitable for combat (although I do like the old stormtroopers too!).

This figure does look like a motorcycle cop. Yuk! I think that the empire would have a paramilitary police force but it would be more like the military police forces of today than a civil body. There is a war going on after all!

I do like the helmet. The chest armour looks suitably old fashioned, but the groin armour looks as though it would constrict the blood-flow somewhat. Imagine running after a suspect!

I don't like mixing rubber, armour and fabric. The fabric always looks out of place to me. With modern uniforms it is the armour that is out of place as it is only worn for combat and is then removed. For this guy, his armour is his uniform and it is the fabric that is out of place. He does not even have knee pockets!

As for the pants - did the empire find some leftover stocks of US cop pants from the 1950s? I think Star Wars does have a big problem with lacking imagination when it comes to design. Sometimes they come up with good ideas and sometimes (as here) they don't! But a lot of their designs are driven by adapting what exists now or has existed in the past on Earth to the Star Wars universe rather than stretching their minds and pushing the boundaries outwards.

Perhaps I am being too harsh as most of it works and I do love SW!

As for weathering, I am not a fan of it. If I did want to have it I would rather do it myself. He looks grimy rather than muddy.

I wonder if he will be parted out? I might get some bits and try to create a different version of him.
