Just a heads up.

For those of us using Servimg for image hosting, there has been a change that may or may not affect us. As of June 5, Servimg has launched a paid Pro version, and has restricted some of the abilities of the free version (although it remains available and fully operational). The change seems to be essentially limiting the free version to 3 simultaneous uploads at a time (when you drag and drop files into the upload interface), and limiting the size of each individual image to 10 MB. I say it may or may not affect us, because just yesterday I uploaded 5 images simultaneously without a problem.

https://help.forumotion.com/t155974-discover-servimg-pro-version-and-enjoy-extended-and-advanced-features#1074617

I am not certain if this has any bearing on the issues one member has reported in viewing images hosted by another member on Servimg. We continue to investigate.

Photobucket all over again. These companies can't make money from free image hosting. Once they get enough users they will either start charging subscriptions or sell it off.

As the saying goes, there is (usually) no such thing as a free lunch. I am not surprised by this development, and it seems that with a very minor inconvenience, one can still keep using their service for free. Moreover, unlike Photobucket, images continue to work, and we are currently trying to narrow down the cause of your problem with a subset of them -- there may be some other explanation. Please see the Sideshow fail/Jack Burton thread. We will get to the bottom of this.

Only for now. Once they switch as many of their users as possible to Pro, they will cripple the free service further.

Maybe. You don't know that, and I don't know that. Free yahoo and gmail e-mail services have been around for ages. Anyway, if you'd like help with your image viewing problem (and I'd like to solve it for you and everyone else who might run into it), please give the requested feedback in the other thread.

I wouldn't say that, but you are very welcome. It is the principle of the thing, and, besides, you and possibly others should not be missing out on anything.

Running this search in Google throws up a lot of issues between servimg and Forumotion:

Thank you, shazzdan and Asta.

The "problem viewing Servimg photos" threads are surprisingly unhelpful, and so focusing on that may be misleading, but you can check the free forum support for yourselves here: https://help.forumotion.com/

At present, we haven't really isolated the issue. Except for shazzdan, all of us who have looked have had no problem viewing the photos in question. Moreover, apparently it is not an issue of shazzdan being unable to view images hosted on https://i.servimg.com (as opposed to https://i.servimg.com), because except for some DFC images there, he can actually view MarkEl and my images on https://i.servimg.com. And DFC's signature, which shazzdan can see, is also hosted on https://i.servimg.com.

Did you see this one?

It sounds like a similar issue. But, as you wrote, also unhelpful as there's no definitive solution.

I can see it here but I can't follow it to the server; it says "image doesn't exist". I assume is something to to with the way forumotion caches sigs. If I follow any other pic to servimg, I can see them fine.

Asta, that was from a very long time ago. If my understanding is correct, it is about how long it takes for (large) images to appear. Shazzdan, can you try leaving the page open for a bit and seeing if the images in the first post load eventually?

As for DFC's signature, I can both see it displayed in posts, and follow it to the server:
https://i.servimg.com/u/f62/17/97/35/97/mosh_510.jpg (can you view that, shazzdan?). At some point there was something that gave me an "image does not exist" error, but I don't know if it was that -- may have been a timeout issue that has self-corrected.

Yep. But I still can't follow the sig to the site.

Ok, can you try following it to the server on your own, and does it ever work? Just testing for clues, that's all.

I suppose the next step would be to see if we can get any clues from your system specifications, in case you are the only one experiencing these issues. What operating system and browser (and version?) are you using?

Just tried MS Edge. Same problem so it isn't the browser.

waiting eight mins so far. Just tried refreshing the page in case it was a time-out problem. No good.

Very curious. Can you list the other browser(s) you have tried, and the operating system? I will need to inform Forumotion of these details if I am to ask them for assistance.

So far I can only say that a member on my forum can view
https://i.servimg.com/u/f62/19/88/56/50/mib3k-12.jpg
but not
https://i.servimg.com/u/f62/17/97/35/97/34700710.jpg
and ask why.

Chrome, MS Edge, MS IE. Win  10.

My browser thinks the second photo has a resolution of 1 x 1 and shows me a black image. The first photo is 800 x 2000 and displays fine

Shazzdan, I have posted a formal question on the Forumotion support forum and will let you know what they come up with. Or you can follow along yourself:
https://help.forumotion.com/t156002-problem-viewing-specific-servimg-hosted-images#1075022

Update: a further clue -- when I posted the example links in the question post, their url automatically changed, losing the "62" after the initial "i" -- and with the changed links I was getting the same result as you -- DFC's Jack Burton photo did not load, except as a tiny 1 x 1 dot in the middle of a blank window; strangely, my Agent K photo still worked, even with the changed url. I added this observation to my question.

This has got something to do with it, and is apparently a coding problem.

Shazzdan, here is the most concrete suggestion we've gotten this far (don't ask me why this would explain how you can't view those two specific images but can view the rest)...

sometimes users who use Kaspersky like me have this issue cause Kaspersky has a feature called Anti-Banner that does this, replacing something it thinks is annoying advertising with a dot. But it has an overly aggressive definition of unwanted content.

The key is turning off the "Common Banner List" in the Antibanner section of Kaspersky.
open the main application window....click Settings...select Protection....select Anti-Banner... check the Enable Anti-Banner box..uncheck the Use common banner list box..ok

See:
https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Configuring+Kaspersky+Internet+Security
https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Firewalls

I don't know whether any other software that does (maybe Norton)

Well... servimg finally caught up to me. That latest New Product thread (the Halo tandem jumpers) was an absolute pain to post. Can only do three pictures at a time... Nightmare! Takes a very long time now. I don't know if I should go back to hosting from my imgur account, or upgrade the servimg account. I forgot what my password is on servimg, so I'll have to login again before I can find out how much that's going to cost. If it's too expensive, I guess I'll be taking a lot longer to post new product threads. Figures... something works, they have to mess with it. Nothing good lasts forever, I guess.
