I propose starting a general thread (later to be upgraded to a Sticky thread) for suggestions in finding specific sixth-scale items (head sculpts, weapons, bodies, gear, etc) for everyone to use. (Remember, such threads already exist for reporting tech issues, posting sixth-scale humor, reporting or showcasing useful items; the Sticky threads are located at the top of the General Talk list of threads.)

I will start if off with a question of my own. I am looking for a decent head sculpt for a sixth-scale Famke Janssen (X-Men's Jean Grey/Phoenix, among many other roles). I know Sideshow did one for her role in the James Bond film Goldeneye, but that is both relatively unrealistic (it is quite old), and also quite atypical for the actress' usual features. So let me know if anyone has suggestions for good lookalikes.

I know it may not be exactly what you’re looking for, but remember a couple years ago CGL Toys did that Phoenix Girl? Not sure how easy it would be to find...

This is a neat idea! It's a great example of what fresh thinking can do for forums.

I am trying to find some female WWII Russian uniforms. Specifically the ones that came with DML Anna and the Very Cool female Russian. I would like to avoid buying the figures, I just need the uniforms.

She doesn't look anything like Famke Janssen.

I own two (2) of this figure.

I thought this one had similar looks to Famke. There may be a redhead version out there, if you're looking to make a movie Jean.

Thank you Stryker, DFC, and the Perfect Figure Toys for the suggestions. They all make sense, and I can actually see some resemblance in Phoenix Girl's face and Famke. But certainly not perfect. And she does seem hard to find.

Here is the odd part about CGL's "Phoenix" figure. I remember when it was solicited. However, it didn't receive a proper solicitation per say for US vendors because CGL was still new and not much was known about them at the time. It got "lost" because the it missed the release date as well.

I managed to procure mine about a month after it was released. The vendor I purchased it from only received a few to sell.

I think the production run for the figure was low and it didn't necessarily sell well, but still sold out of its production run.

I searched eBay and can't find it. I'm surprised there are none listed on eBay from Asian sellers either.

I searched on eBay using CGL PHOENIX.

I sometime believe odd/peculiar figures that didn't get wide spread distribution/production runs end up becoming sought after/hard to find for awkward reasons.

Thanks for showing this new Russian set, DFC. It has three of the elements I'm looking for to create the characters in my photo saga: the hat, the blouse, and the boots.

Recently I found just how useful updated boots can be. The ones I have are from DML Svetlana, which dates back quite a bit. The plastic has really hardened with age. Not even really heating them up was enough to remove them (they were always a tight fit on Svetlana's feet) I ended up having to cut them off so I could use the tights on another figure. I'm looking forward to getting a few pairs of boots in that new Russian Sniper set so that current bodies can use them.

I still would like to find at least two of the Russian skirts, preferably from Very Cool. The DML ones won't fully fasten on a Very Cool body.

GF, concerning Famke Janssen HS; have you seen this one by Snyderman31 on eBay (fully painted w/ or w/out neck), spendy, but it could be what you're looking for:

Thanks, Stryker. I am familiar with Snyderman's work (got a very nice Braveheart head sculpt from him), I don't recall if I had noticed this. The face looks pretty good, and the no neck option is helpful, but I am not sure how I feel about the sculpted hair at this length, and especially at this price.

Got to be honest, I've never really rated their heads, you can sort of tell who they're meant to be, but, like the old Hero Heads, there's a style the sculptor has which carries through all of their work. You can tell instantly if it's one of theirs. A truly great sculptor never falls into a style rut and they just consistently nail each likeness. When you see the prototypes the HT people are like that as is Eleven.

Like Roger, I've got to toss out a prop for Eleven. Their sculpts are excellent likenesses in almost all cases.

Kit at http://onesixthkit.com/ stocks some of them routinely.

Hello!
I'm looking for the shirt and pants from the Play Toy Maintenance Technician, also known as Tom Cruise from Oblivion. BOT has the goggles, boots and hands, but unfortunately not the clothes.
I'm also ( alternatnely ) looking for white or off white female shirt and pants or body suit in the "leather look".
I'm trying to make a custome female figure with that "lightly armored " appearance from Oblivion. Suggestions welcomed. This is going to be a custom and my first real attempt at a female figure, so I'm open to all thoughts except the color.
Thanks!

I apologize if this post comes off reading/sounding naive.

I know I purchased some figures in quantity from 2012 through 2017 from a variety of different brands. Generally speaking, the figures I purchased are pretty much stored away except for maybe one being pulled for inspection and/or possible opening.

Over time, I've seen the same figures sold by 1:6 vendors and on eBay at varying prices and readily available. Of course, the supply diminishes over time and prices for varying reasons increases depending on the figure.

What I sometimes have difficulty comprehending is how come the majority of what I stashed ends up being "sought after" by collectors after the fact?

Seriously.

I don't buy intentionally or on purpose to sell for profit at an immediate or later date. I shop around among sources and get the best deal because I buy in quantity.

I did a quick check on eBay and I find a good bulk of what I purchased in quantity is now slim pickings on eBay as a MIB/NRFB offering. Mostly bits and pieces and if a whole boxed figure is found, the price is substantial.

We've all seen 1:6 offerings throughout the years where no matter how long the time passes . . . it's still found and at reasonable prices more or less, but it just surprises me that some offerings within the last five years have significantly jumped in prices and scarce availability.

I realize the production numbers are nowhere near what they were in years past, but still.

It's a bit mind boggling. To me anyway.

View user profile
It seems my special skill is in finding figures no one wants or remain so plentiful that the prices Haven't gone up at all. In some cases they've even gone down.

Now, the figures that I've missed out on is another matter entirely.

I think this is key. And the reason for it is us, the consumer, and the manufacturers.

The consumer: I think we (by we, I don't mean anyone here specifically, but the 1/6 consumer in general) are part of the problem. I had posted a few years ago a thread about the "PO Today/Cancel in a Month" crowd over at the other site, and I fully believe you can blame a lot of the smaller runs on that blasé mentality, which really puts the screws to the retailer who has to purchase these things by the case.

In the past I had a several hour/2-day conversation with Steve at Timewalker, and in our discussions we talked about how he determines how much of a particular product to order, and he's pretty much got it down to a science where he won't order anymore than he absolutely has to. Now, with all the cancelations people tend to do willy-nilly, he probably factors that in, as well. I've seen items become "sold out" shortly after leaving the initial PO stage. (A good recent example is the World Box Plump Body. I purchased one through Timewalker, and it arrived what -- a month or two ago in the states; it's already sold out at most US retailers, and the eBay prices are already $20+ higher than retail).

If retailers are placing smaller and smaller orders, then obviously, the manufacturer is going to make less and less (it doesn't make sense to run 5000 of something if you only have 250 POs; maybe they only make 500). Hence the demand in very short order on the secondary market. Aside from Hot Toys, I think the days of these manufacturers running 20,000 of something has ended. And, honestly, I don't know how much longer even HT can maintain high numbers, as they price more and more people out of the hobby with their constant every-3-month price hikes, which brings me to:

The manufacturers: With prices constantly rising, how many of us can truly sustain this hobby over the long run. I just recently got back into this about 4-5 years ago after a 10 year hiatus, because I thought the prices back then were getting out of control ($50 for a freaking Hot Toy's Planet of the Apes figure? WTF!!!). Now look where we are... It's getting harder and harder to justify the price of these things, even to myself.

Then you have the smaller/newer companies that may only run 1000 or less (how many Lucifer Wings of the Fallen figures do you suppose actually are being made: 200? Less? Due to the pain-in-the-butt nature of using real turkey feathers. And how many (like me) took the chance on pre-ordering a brand new figure set from a company no one's ever heard of before?

Sadly, less product means scalpers are going to take advantage of the situation, and it seems the Asian market is the biggest supplier of bash fodder on eBay (makes me wonder how much insider info some of these people have as to production run numbers). Even here in the states I've seen sites that offer bash fodder as their primary bread and butter asking fairly high prices.

Can you imagine if the real world ran like 1/6?

You go to Home Depot because you need a hammer.  "I'm sorry sir, the hammers sold out almost immediately.  But you can still buy one in the aftermarket."

"But I don't want to pay four times the price!"

"Well then, you can pre-order hammers 2.0.  Please pay your deposit over here.  They could be available in 6 months, they could be available next year."

WHAT A LOAD OF BULL$%^&!

Why?

They're claiming/implying the female outfits they're listing for sale require time to be manufactured like they're making them? That's a load of utter BULL$%^&! The majority of their listed female outfits are stock outfits from Triad Toys. I know. I have multiples of all of them.
