Primitive Sacrificial Altar...or something like that

Go down  Message [Page 1 of 1]

Had to cut up a tree that fell down last winter. So, a few months ago I'm looking at this pile of wood thinking "I got to be able to do something with some of these". This is what I came up with. I'm sure I'll add to it as things pop into my head. Then I'll have to make some sort of backdrop for it.

You have a brilliant mind! Or a disturbed one!? Or a brilliantly disturbed one. Wink Maybe you should have been a film maker. In fact, maybe you are. Smile

My first thought upon seeing the first pic was Fay Wray in King Kong (or any of the other ladies who played Anne Darrow). Then I saw your Damsel in Distress tied to it, and it sort of confirmed it. Looks great.

Thanks! You know what? I loved that King Kong movie as a kid (Godzilla movies, also). And you are right. Maybe that's where the idea came from. Gotta love the subconscious mind...

looking very good so far. almost gives off a predator vibe as well. i might be over sensitive when it comes to using real wood from the forest, but i'm a bit reluctant to use it my dios. never know what might enter the figure room with it as a blind passenger Smile

Thank you. "predator vibe"? Ugh, now I gotta buy a predator figure Twisted Evil. Thanks for giving me a reason to! Very Happy ...anyway, I also have a 75 gallon saltwater tank, so I certainly do understand the "blind passenger" or "hitch hiker" issue...

Nice one. I don't know why we waste all that money on resin replicas when we can get the real thing for free from our gardens. Wood is one of the few truly renewable resources we have.

Yea, there is that but for me it's more about looking around and just using what I have. I HATE shopping, going to the store and stuff like that. Therefore, when I feel like making something, I look around, see what I have and then try to make something. Wood, beer cans, plants, decorations, rocks, dog hair, condoms, etc, are all likely candidates...I don't plan anything. I just let things happen and see where it goes. Sometimes it works, a lot of times it doesn't...

Get yourself a mini lathe. You'll be able to make use of all the branches and offcuts.

I make mini tree stumps from offcuts. Cut the branch right where it starts to fork and flip it over.

I've started putting together props for my 1:6 blacksmiths workshop
http://onesixthfigures.forumotion.com/t903-scratchbuild-blacksmith-s-workshop

It is going to need a few tree stumps and logs. Here is the first accessory. The anvil is made from bits of wood glued together and then sanded to shape with a Dremel.

Your use of natural resources is great! Wish I had thought of doing that...

Wow, I really love how this came out! Really versatile too. Could work for so many genres, from ancient to modern. Great piece!

Yep. My favourite props and dioramas are the ones that can be reused for multiple projects with varying themes. Razz has inspired me to look through my woodpile and see what else I can make from it.
