German 71st Infantry Division Kleeblat (Cloverleaf)
194th Infantry Regiment
2nd Battalion
Rattenkrieg (“rat-war”) raged every square foot of Stalingrad on September, 30 1942. Basements became assault origins as German infantry adopted tactics to avoid crossing deadly streets plagued by new Russian urban warfare. Engineers would breech adjoining walls with 3kg pole charges and clear the resulting entrys with FMW 35 flame-throwers as Landsers stood ready with cluster grenades to remove any surviving Russians before the squad entered and began their bottom to top attack on the buildings. Here we see 1st Company 2nd Platoon on the verge of detonation as the section leader signals his go ahead. Their day is sure to end as a major victory. But, will it be from clearing the building, or just taking the kitchen? Regardless, tomorrow they’ll wake and do it all again.
Hope you enjoyed this dio, this is one my favorites. I did it back in Nov 2005.
