Making progress on my cowboy.

He's still rockin' his paper towel hat.

[WIP] Cowboy 48137263056_20164d319f_c
I tightened up the joints on the body with floor polish, and gave him some extra bulk underneath with taped-on tissue paper.
His jacket is actually a Hot Toys piece, from their Aldo Raine figure (Inglorious Basterds) but I repainted it.

The rest of his clothes. pistol belt, and boots are from Battlegear Toys.

Reworked his Krag Jorgensen rifle.
[WIP] Cowboy 48137263051_6369e86fe5_c

Gave 'em a boot knife.
[WIP] Cowboy 48137357527_6e8eae9f44_c

Also busted out more paper towel and hockey tape to make him an ammo bag for his rifle, and a cap-and-ball ammo pouch for his pistol.
Here's a WIP of the ammo bag.

And finished, painted and floor polished. Stuck some painted carnation ribbon on for a shoulder strap.
[WIP] Cowboy 48143538256_7a5425e231_c
[WIP] Cowboy 48143627972_88466052ac_c

And the pistol pouch. There's a Colt Navy in the holster.
[WIP] Cowboy 48143627922_b3658a64eb_c
I poked a hole in the bottom of the pouch, then bend and trimmed a staple to act as a toggle/keeper.
A daub of glue keeps it closed up nice.

Working on a 'hoboroll' right now, may add a larger Possibles Pouch, walking stick, and a larger belt knife.

Wow, it's coming right along. Love the rifle repaint. Paper towels never looked so good as they do in your creations. How fragile are they -- if the figure toppled over, would something tear? Or does the floor polish treatment result in greater resilience (and do they remain flexible)?

Thanks man!

The paper towels hold up surprisingly well. The hockey-tape backer helps strengthen them further, and the polish allows you to bend and crease them at your leisure, with no cracking or tearing.

I mean, it is still paper so you don't wanna go all-out on it, but it'll hold up to posing quite well.

You can also wet it and re-shape it very easily, too. Just gotta make sure you layer on the floor polish enough. It takes a few heavy coats to wind up with a leather-like appearance.

Originally I had tried making a hat just out of paper towel, and found it wasn't as durable.

Oh yes, I forgot about the hockey tape backing! That would make a difference too. You Canucks! Smile I should probably watch more of the Red Green show to get ideas. Just kidding. Anyway, your work is both inventive and impressive.

Haha well like Red says, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Really appreciate you checking this stuff out, it's fun to do!

This is looking fantastic. I like all the little details, and of course your ingenious use of paper towels, hockey tape and floor polish. Excellent work.

A couple little updates.

Made him a Possibles Bag/satchel out of the usual.
[WIP] Cowboy 48206441366_b353eb2dda_c
[WIP] Cowboy 48206441381_1932580ccb_c

Also a little journal.

[WIP] Cowboy 48204469906_e9a7ff168c_c
It's got a little pencil attached with a string, which can also be used for tying the book closed, and I rolled up some paper to make a tortillon, or blending stick.

He's pretty well finished now, aside from a little extra joint tightening I'll need to do (he's got wobbly knees)... Just gotta get him out for some photos sometime.

I love the satchel and journal. These little details would add so much to the overall look of your custom set.

Thanks a lot, man!

I definitely have some photo ideas in-mind for this guy, too. It remains to be seen how well I'll be able to execute them cyclops
