The recent release of the Blackcat figurine gave me inspiration to make this whip.

The handle is made from bamboo and the lash is made from braided cord. I've inserted a galvanised steel wire core through the center to make it easier to pose. I first tried a fairly thin wire (0.7mm) but it was too hard to thread through the center of the cord (it kept poking through the sides) and it didn't open up the braid enough to make a realistic-looking whip. Then I used a 1.2mm wire and it worked much better.

A clever solution — looks very good!

Impressive how tight you were able to get the braided chord. Nicely done.

I started with the thin commercial braided cord that is used for jewelry-making and when I ran the wire through the center, the braid opened up. It worked a lot better than I expected.

All the sellers say that it is braided leather but I can't find any leather. I unravelled one and it appears to be braided cotton or polyester thread with a coating over the outside to make it look like leather.

I've put it up on my Etsy store if anyone is interested.

I'm going to keep experimenting to see if I can improve it. The next prototype will use an even thicker wire, which will be ground down for the last few inches to give it a tapered appearance.

Very good job, the shine makes it very lifelike!

Inspires me to make a 'posable' stone sling some day.
