just a Question to forum tech. What is the best way to post images ? I use host an image option. What option needs more time by opening, No limit or one of the limits ? Sure, more px need more time to open, but need it more time to to open a converted pic ?

I signed up for an account with Servimg and find using "Host an Image" to be the easiest way to do it. Check out post #2 here:

https://onesixthfigures.forumotion.com/t169-recommended-image-posting-procedure

You post three images at a time, once you post those first three, you don't have to post and re-edit your post. Once you "Insert" the first three images, you "Remove all", select the next three, "Send All", "Insert All", "Remove All" -- as many times as you like before you post your thread. It takes some time to get used to doing it that way, but in the end, I find it works the best rather than trying to use other Image hosting sites (since Servimg is the one forumotion uses).

I also use ServImg. While it is annoying to have to upload the images only 3 at a time (they had to throw some inconvenience for the free version), doing it in steps allows you to ultimately upload as many as you need. Then posting them here is pretty easy with the "Insert Image" "button." See also the recent sticky guide thread:
https://onesixthfigures.forumotion.com/t1767-how-to

Although from the looks of it, Ephiane you seem to have mastered using ServImg (I was looking at your Appaloosa thread to verify).

The one great thing about ServImg is that once you create the account, you never actually have to go back in it if you don’t want. Once it’s there, all you have to do is Host an Image here, and all your photos automatically go into your ServImg account. I haven’t visited my folder there in months — I’d be afraid to see the number of pics there to be honest.

About a week ago this forum stopped showing me new posts. Before, any thread with new posts would be highlighted. Now they all look the same, including threads with new posts. I just clicked on the link that says "view posts since last visit" and it returned "no results" despite a number of threads that were made after my last visit. This was all working fine until about a week ago.

That feature is always hit or miss for me, as well, Dan. I don’t think it’s anything we can do but post it to forumotion, which has been done in the past, and yet it still seems to be a consistent issue. I’m not sure if even they know how to fix the issue. Another one that’s inconsistent is the Notify via email any followed threads with new comments.

Has there ever been consideration of creating a Top Level category for Photo Stories? As it is, the many stories here on the forum, including Gubernator's, The PhotogBlog's, blackpool's, AlKelAstra91's, BamComix's, ReverendSpooky's, and all the other photo-story creator's projects all quickly get buried in the General Talk category.

There is a separate Top Level category for Sixth Scale Videos that only has 17 total topics and 89 total posts. I would find a Top Level category for Sixth Scale Stories much more useful and interesting than one for videos. It would be much easier to keep up with The House of Seasons or The Astraverse or the shenanigans of the Maul Rats if the forum offered a Top Level photo-story category.

Any chance this could happen?

Thanx!

Certainly something to consider. I should point out that the different sections of the forum are now accessible from the Home tab. So if you are reading in New Product Announcements, you might be oblivious to what is new in Tutorials. I do recall that we did not want to create too many different sections/top level categories/subforums so as to help members access everything in one place, as much as possible. However, given the very specific and ample character of certain types of topics (e.g., Tutorials, New Product Announcements), we did create a handful of these separate sections. How do others feel about this?

There's a problem with this forum at the moment.

Yesterday all the icons that indicate news posts, or allow you to go to the newest unread post were broken.

There was a broken icon symbol with text explaining what the icon means. One the left hand side of the thread listings this text was written over the top of the thread titles.

This morning I had an Avast phishing warning pop up relating to 2img . net.

Checking all the sites open in my tabs it turned out to be this forum. Avast's warning history showed it had blocked the offending program 19 times.

I blocked 2img in uMatrix and now the broken icons and text have gone. Instead there's just blank spaces, so obviously no option to use the features.

That should read "new posts", not "news posts", but it seems I can't edit either with 2img blocked.

Asta, I will try to look into it, but it is unlikely I will turn up anything concrete. This could have something to do with any combination of Forumotion updates and/or browser updates and/or anti-virus updates. I have not seen a problem with the icons themselves on my browser (Firefox). There are phishing or popup block warnings (something apparently fairly common on such sites), which is why it is good to have a good anti-virus or extensions uBlock Origin -- again, all this might depend on each individual user's platform and browser, and some of this is picking up innocent stuff too.

I'm on Chrome, but it could be a false positive from Avast.

It only began yesterday.

At the moment the icons are invisible due to me setting the block, but I managed to get to this page from Notifications by clicking the blank space where the icon should be.

It didn't work for 'Reply' though. As with 'Edit' it's completely missing as the mouse arrow doesn't turn to a hand anywhere in the post.

I Googled 2img . net. It's described as Traffic Ranking & Marketing Analytics. There were some reports of it being identified as a Trojan.

Just found some news on this from another Forumotion page:

https://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=https://forum.forumactif.com/c5-entraide-support&prev=search&pto=aue

Seems like it has been identified as a false positive.

Hello everyone,

Our staff has already received the response from AVAST saying that their specialists have re-checked and that their detection has been disabled.
I quote, in quick translation from English:

The website is now marked as clean in the Avast virus database. This change should be instantaneous, but it can take up to 24 hours in some cases. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused.

I've turned 2img back on in uMatrix and the site is looking fine again!

Smile

Asta, thanks for the new information. I can see this element in the list of things my ad/pop-up blocker blocks, but it does not not seem to have any effect on the visibility and functionality of features. It sounds to me like you were not seeing even the various functional "buttons," which would indeed get in the way. A long time ago I tried out Chrome for some reason -- forget whether it was with this site or another -- and had some scary potentially phishing things pop up, so I stopped using it. I've had no such problems with Firefox (admittedly, I have these protective extensions loaded and activated) or with Microsoft Edge. It may be that without additional configuration or extensions Chrome is a little more susceptible? But there are really too many variables for me to speculate, and I'm not much of a tech person. As you found out in this instance, some of the "suspect" elements are not dangerous. Anyway, glad it was a false alarm.

It was Avast that was blocking it initially, but only partially so. It was deactivating the functional buttons visually, so the image was broken and replaced with text describing their function (which made reading thread titles difficult).

Every time I refreshed the forum an Avast warning popped up to say 2img was infected with URL: Phishing.

Turning 2img red in uMatrix put a stop to the warnings. With every refresh the broken icons with text loaded briefly then disappeared, becoming either invisible or non-existent.

As it turned out 2img is a pretty important part of the forum, so glad it was a false positive in the end.

According to the forum where I found the news, AVG had also been falsely detecting it:

It's the first time anything like that has happened here, as the forum has been very stable and safe. The only thing uMatrix, uBlock Origin and Malwarebytes Browser Guard block routinely is Googletagmanager.

Thanks, Asta. Yes, I can see Googletagmanager blocked on my browser too, but also some others. I have on occasion -- and not on this site -- seen other innocent elements tagged as potentially malicious, stopping a page from loading (often this has to do with updated certificates or not).

Prompted by these suggestions, after further discussion among moderators, we have created a separate Photo Stories section, accessible directly from the Home page.

https://onesixthfigures.forumotion.com/f9-photo-stories

Members can post their photo stories there if they wish. If you wish to transfer your photo stories already posted elsewhere, please make a list of all relevant ones, with URL addresses, and send a private message to me to arrange for the transfers.
