Sasaki Kojiro (ささき こじろう) was a famous swordsman in the late Warring States period and the Azuchi-Momoyama period of Japan. He was a disciple of Tomita Kiyoharu and studied martial arts under Sōmoku Zusai of the Nakajo Ryu. He traveled around the world practicing martial arts and founded his own school. He was said to be handsome and good at using a three-foot long sword. His sword was so long and had such a wide range of attack that even the swallows in the sky were said to be beyond the range of his long sword. The duel with Miyamoto Musashi, who was later revered as the "Saint of Swords", took place on Iwari Island (Kokurajima) in Shimonoseki City, and most people know that Miyamoto Musashi won and killed Sasaki Kojiro.

Personally, I find the slightly stylized look a little distracting (as in, how cool this would have been if more realistic). I also get the impression that this is the Japanese Cillian Murphy.

I agree, also the head looks a tad small on the body. I don't know the source material so not sure if that was intentional.
