Another great figure from them, and really good to see a full smog camo uniform, which could be put to good use in other bashes too, like more modern SOBR and good alternative to the impossibly DAM one from their exclusive bbicn

which movie is this? Moscow?

Oh i remember watching a documentary of this a few years ago.
Not a movie, or i guess they turned it into a movie.
Russian special forces gassed the theater killing the hostage-takers as well as a lot of hostages.

Yeah, not sure it’s based on a movie, rather the real life Moscow theatre crisis. The spetsnaz did go in, on orders, and gassed them due to the difficulties faced to enter

The Moscow theater hostage crisis (also known as the 2002 Nord-Ost siege) was the seizure of the crowded Dubrovka Theater by 40 to 50 armed Chechen terrorists on 23 October 2002, which involved 850 hostages and ended with the death of at least 170 people. The attackers, led by Movsar Barayev, claimed allegiance to the Islamist separatist movement in Chechnya.[1] They demanded the withdrawal of Russian forces from Chechnya and an end to the Second Chechen War.

Due to the layout of the theater, special forces would have had to fight through 30 metres (100 ft) of corridor and advance up a well-defended staircase before they could reach the hall in which the hostages were held. The attackers had numerous explosives, with the most powerful in the center of the auditorium. Spetsnaz operators from Federal Security Service (FSB) Alpha and Vympel, supported by a Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD) SOBR unit, pumped an undisclosed chemical agent into the building's ventilation system and began the rescue operation.[1]

All forty of the insurgents were killed,[2] and up to 130 hostages died during the siege, including nine foreigners, due to the toxic substance pumped into the theater.[3][4][5] The identity of the gas was never disclosed, although it is believed by some to have been a fentanyl derivative, such as carfentanil.[6]

An odd choice of subject matter, given the operation in question turned into such a disaster.

It would have been a good plan, had they planned both phases properly. Sadly they focused too much on the attack phase, and not enough on the rescue.
The drug they pumped in, required that everyone effected by the gas needed to be given an injection within a short period of time of being exposed. Unfortunately communication, jurisdiction and planning issues delayed responders from entering and administering enough "antidote" to the stricken hostages. Leading to the enormous number of deaths.
It was a very sad outcome.

It's a decent looking figure though, especially for historic figure collectors. The kit looks pretty accurate. Just not sure I'd have chosen that operation to showcase the FSB elites.

Russia never considered it a disaster. The Russian presidential special envoy for human rights said it was "a good lesson to the terrorists and their accomplices." Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov said that "the operation was carried out brilliantly by special forces." Putin regretted not saving more of the hostages but considered the operation a resounding success, saying that his government had "achieved the near impossible, saving hundreds of people". There were over sixty people claiming compensation for physical and psychological damage and Russia ended up rejecting all of them except for one person. Payments were only made after the case was taken to the European Court for Human Rights.

This was a based on a horrible incident, but I do think many speculated that the opening scene of the movie Tenet was based on the attack. A lot of the controversy was also about the gas they pumped into the theater and whether or not that caused more deaths to the hostages or not and the government not properly disclosing the exact chemical to medical officials. I admit, I read about it after seeing the movie so I'm not that knowledgable on the incident aside from what's available online.

Yeah, as shazzdan said, it isn’t considered a disaster there due to the amount who were saved considering the terrorists had suicide vests etc. yeah the gas was the controversy for refusing to detail which type.

Really nice figure though

It's strange isn't it? We pretty much think nothing of collecting WW1&2 and Vietnam military figures, and yet because this involves civilians and is still reasonably fresh in living memory I certainly feel a bit queasy about it, no matter how objectively well-crafted this figure seems (and it does).

At least it isn't quite so tastefully dubious to 'commemorate' this incident as it would be the Beslan school siege crisis from a few years later (not that I want any model company to read that and take it as a challenge).
