I love it, even if I have no special attachment to this place or time. The Guiyi Army (Jun) was a military command on the Silk Road west of China Proper, a sort of outpost policing/protecting from neighboring polities (Tibet to the south, Uighurs to the west and east, Khitan to the north). Some of those Tang and Dunhuang figures we've seen would work well with this guy.
