If I were into collecting modern military, this would have been an immediate must buy. Of course, I'm no expert, and experts might spot mistakes. I just appreciate the number of accessories, clothing, and resulting options. Nice head sculpt, too.

This is a World War II figure, not modern.

The 1st Special Service Force was an elite joint American–Canadian commando unit in World War II created and formed by Major Robert T. Frederick of the Operations Division of the U.S. General Staff. During the Italian campaign of WWII it was commanded by Frederick and attached to the United States Fifth Army. The Force was later attached to 1st Airborne Task Force which was commanded by then Major General Frederick in August 1944 for the campaign in southern France.

The unit was organized in 1942 and trained at Fort William Henry Harrison near Helena, Montana, in the United States. The Force served in the Aleutian Islands, and fought in Italy and southern France before being disbanded in December 1944

The modern American and Canadian special operations forces trace their heritage to this unit. In 2013, the United States Congress passed a bill to award the 1st Special Service Force the Congressional Gold Medal.

The Unit was also nicknamed "The Devil's Brigade" due to their sheer tenacity, gung-ho spirit and daring operations.

Nice looking figure. Update of an old Dragon/DML FSSF figure.  Would have been nice if they had equipped him with a Johnson LMG which was used by this unit, though they also employed the BAR.  Just would have been great to see an updated version of the relatively rare Johnson LMG.

For me, everything after 1500 is modern. However, when classifying military action figures, I'd move that to after 1900. And everything after 2000 is current, I suppose.

Pre-order cut-off is January 14th? So it's reached the point where the pre-order window on even military figures is only a week. The days of 1/6-scale action figures ever being "in stock" are disappearing fast. It's a put down yer money and take yer chances game now, along with grab it when you see it because it won't be here tomorrow.

I don't know exactly when it was announced. I found and posted it yesterday. I'm sure the window must have been at least a couple of weeks if not more, and the place I found it might not have listed it immediately (although I'm sure they were pretty quick). I hate the pre-order system, but it is the reality we live in.

I was thinking the same about the Johnson MG and the bag they carried the spare mags in. They also didn't include the combat knife and scabbard they usually carried. Nice figure but a little disappointed they didn't go all the way with the SSF signature equipment.
