not sure about the figure though, I cant help but think the broken column is a tad anachronistic

Love the ballista ("crossbow"). The figure sets (all three versions) look stunning and promise to be good quality like the earlier HaoYu releases in this new Roman series. For what it is worth, they are one foot in fantasy rather than reality. I suppose a "fifty captain" is intended to be half a centurion, although the actual strength of a legionary "century" varied. The use of greaves is thought to be accurate for centurions up to a point (though far less sure of this design), but the presence of manicae on each arm is surely overkill. Not a fan of the base -- it was clearly an ambitious concept, but I'm not sure the result panned out.

If you have ever tried to lace 1:6 caligae onto miniature feet, you'll realise that molded and painted sandals is a far better option.

I did that with ACI Hoplite for 1 hour and I nearly pulled my eyes out. I prefer molded/painted sandals

I'm divided on the sandals. ACI and maybe KP had the laced type, and it was always a pain, unless pre-assembled. (Ghost, you could have saved yourself the trouble and left your Greek hoplite barefoot, would have been more accurate too.) But while the molded and painted ones are far easier to use, they are inevitably painted a little off, and if you look closely enough (not to mention macro photos), it shows.

oooo - I was going to buy some of the earlier Romans but missed it due to finances....might try to go back and get some.....this new one looks fantastic. Love the battle version with weathered and bloodied Lorica Segmentata. The crossbow looks amazing too and works!! Even better!! I'd have to get that, meaning I need to get me some of the other previous Romans haha

Yes, they are. Judging by their first Roman legionary figure, each of the sandaled feet are one molded piece that has been painted appropriately for the flesh and leather straps. The interesting thing is that the uppermost portion of the straps appears to be part of the molded piece but extending upwards and incorporating openings between the straps; it is also fairly flexible, being attached to the rest only at the front and back, thus allowing for ankle articulation. Had the paint job been better (it is not the worst, but far from perfect), I would say the design choice was great.

Apart from ACI and KP (see in thread linked just above, comparison photos), TBLeague provided a bona fide separate leather-like sandal for their first Hercules set (which used the M30 body). It's pretty good, and probably accurate enough to something in one of Steve Reeves' swords and sandals films; as for history, I don't know (I have my doubts about the very thick sole, which seems to have been a way to increase the height of the shortish M30 body they used for the set). The straps and buckles are somewhat difficult to work, of course, but you won't run into any paint job imperfections here.
