The Prominent Ministry Of The Campaign, also known as the Arden Counter-Attack, was the most important and last German offensive on the Western Front during World War II, taking place between 16 December 1944 and 25 January 1945 in the forested Arden area between Belgium and Luxembourg. The Germans hoped to counter-attack by preventing the Allies from using the Belgian port of Antwerp, dividing their defences, and encircling and destroying four Allied forces. If successful, it would force the opposition to negotiate a peace treaty in favour of the Axis countries, so that the Germans could pull out of the eastern front. As one of the most important battles in World War II, Arden Counterattack was also the largest battle in World War II in which the U.S. military, the main defender, lost its most battles.
