The female type Synthetic Human joins the line of TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human figures designed by Tsutomu Nihei. Its new joint design enables a wide range of articulation which exceeds the male type Synthetic Human.

Included in the figure are four pairs of hands, three types of chest pieces with different sizes, the inner skull face and a hairpiece for mimicking the human form.

Also included is the clip-type display support base which holds the figure by its ankle to prevent it from falling down.

Product Features
5.31 inches (13.5cm)
Made of plastic
Highly poseable action figure

Always found these both interesting and creepy at the same time. But certainly neat.

I missed the first production of the original 1/6 synthetic human by days or weeks, I can't remember, and it was my number one choice for a drawing reference until I discovered Phicen.

Still love these. I've been meaning to get the original in 1/12, but now I'm glad I forgot about it, as the female seems to have better articulation, and I can imagine that the next production run of the male 1/12 will receive the same upgrades.

Finally! bounce

I think they are creepy in the best possible way. Smile

Somewhat surprised to see no in-hands pictures here. I usually get things much later than most.

I don't have the male type (yet - waiting for preorder) but female type arrived yesterday. And as expected with these Synthetic Human figures, the general impression is "not many other figures can do this".

But first some basic shots with different faceplates:
NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3524 NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3526 NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3525

Talk about creepiness, eh?
Each plate also has adjustable eyes that can be pointed anywhere independently. But it's somewhat onerous.

However, what actually sold me this figure was this look:

Or, rather, this (not exactly the pose they used for promo pics but close):
NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3528

I totally don't mind the sculpted hair here. It works for a robot character like this.

Notwithstanding the fact that she can probably take whatever pose one can think of -
NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3529
- there is one weird aspect about her shoulder articulation.
Arms are attached to the body at an angle. So rotating her arm to point it straight forward requires two actions - rotate at the shoulder and then rotate at another arm joint. Reminds me of the Y-shaped thigh joint some Black Series figures had, but it's not as bad here.
And it also allows her to cross her arms easily. Perhaps 1000 Toys intended their robot girl to be a shy one:

...or employ some fancy gun wielding techniques à la Brandon Heat from Gungrave:

Regardless, she can be very expressive:

And balances well (if you are patient):

Which brings me to size... And she is quite small. Like, really tiny. The Damtoys Testman here is on the shorter side of 1/12 scale figures, yet he is taller than her:
NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3530
And the original Synthetic Human is even taller.

Villa pretty much towers over her:

This is not the end of the world since she is a robot but I wish she wasn't that small.

Oh wow!! I haven't received mine. I need to check where I pre-ordered it even, cause it wasn't one of my usual places... Laughing

Thank you for these awesome photos! Beautiful backdrops again. Smile

Yeah, I will be going for the same look no doubt. And I didn't expect her to be THAT small either, but ok.

I'm really looking forward to finally getting her! I don't have the male counterpart either, but once they announce another production run, possibly with the upgrades they incorporated into this female body, then I'll be on board for sure.

It took me a while to have another little photo shoot with this lady, but she is so much fun! She reminds me of why I came into this hobby in the first place (drawing reference).

Wow. This figure is very cool. Now if they could just figure out a way to make one this dynamic and seamless, I’d lose my mind.

I've been waiting so long for this day. My Synthetic Female now has a dance partner:

Dirty dancing:

NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3912

Or a sparring partner (also a demonstration of balance - takes some time and patience to achieve but he can stand like that):
NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3922

Articulation:
NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3914
I have to say that I like his arm articulation scheme more. More classic arm rotation and swivel with butterfly joints. Elbow range seems marginally better.

More articulation:
NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3916 NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3915

Size comparisons:
NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3917 NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3919 NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3918

Apparently he is not much taller than Damtoys Testman.
VeryCool female figures are about the same height:
NEW PRODUCT: 1/12 TOA Heavy Industries Synthetic Human - Female Type Cnr_3921

Overall, I like it a lot. It's an older figure, has been around for a while but I'm glad that 1000 Toys are doing new production runs.
Aesthetically I think I like the female more. Especially the face sculpt and molded hair (whereas the male version reminds me of one of Disney inquisitors without emo makeup). But his older style of articulation appeals more to me.

Amazing shots again, thank you! He looks great! Once they announce the new print run I'll probably get the male as well. I'm in no rush though.

Having a couple with this level of articulation and stability all the way to fingers and toes is really inspiring as a drawing reference. And it helps that they are aesthetically pleasing, too. Smile
