For Marvel Legends, Star Wars Black Series, Transformers, Power Rangers and most other Hasbro packaging.

She was my first and last plastic free packaging figure from Hasbro. She does not match well with my other figures.

I absolutely hate these new blind box packaging figures from Hasbro along with other box collectors and loose figures collectors.

From the YouTube videos I've seen about these Hasbro blind box figures the quality control is horrendously awful.

But the figure swappers absolutely love them.

You have about 50/50 chance of actually getting the right figure and accessories from the retail stores the first time.

Thanks for looking

Comments are welcome

I do collect some of the Star Wars Black Series in this scale. The Black Widow figure looks pretty good. The plastic free packaging sounds like a horrible idea, given what you have told us. And haven't they heard of recycling?

Ah, yes, I've heard horror stories about this aptly-dubbed "woke" packaging.
Black Series line forms a sizable chunk of my collection so this concerns me quite a bit, even though I always open these boxes.
With plastic window people could at least verify the presence of figures and accessories and filter out bad samples. But this thing eliminates this advantage of brick and mortar shops.

Haven't seen any figure with this type of box in the wild yet though. The first to see will probably be Dark troopers when they arrive.

Thank you GubernatorFan, this Black Widow figure is one of my favorites.

Indeed the the windowless packaging is a horrible idea from Hasbro and I'm really hoping that other big companies like Mattel and Mcfarlane toys won't follow suit.
(that would really suck)

I know what you mean, I have over 30 female and male figures from the Black Series line myself.

I totally agree with you about the figures with the plastic window boxes.

So far I've seen at least 3 examples of these newer plastic free packaging from the Black Series line at BBTS.

Omg, they finally did it. I find it hard to wrap my head around this blind packaging. I thought they were supposed to at least leave a little window so you could see a bit of what it is inside....but no??

Wonder what the plastic-free Black Series looks like....

Personally, I think this is exceedingly stupid. And I say that as someone who does care greatly about the environment. But the very nature of action figures is to be made out of..... PLASTIC. If one wants to be entirely plastic-free, then one should not be collecting action figures at all. So it just makes no sense to me.

They don’t want you to see the sloppy paint job on these is my guess.

Oh yeah they went there I still can't believe it either.

From a few Transformers packages I've seen on the shelves lately there is a little opening at the top of the box but no plastic window.

Here is an example of what Hasbro's new plastic free packaging for the Black Series will looks like.

Yep I think that was their plan.

Hasbro vs Mattel on packaging and value.

Marvel Legends 1/12 scale Ironheart Deluxe Figure and Hasbro's new plastic free packaging 2v2eU9fj8xAChVkHosted on Fotki
Hasbro Marvel Legends 6 inch Ironheart Deluxe Figure $34.99 (2022)
VS
Mattel MOTU 7 inch She-Ra Deluxe Figure Set $32.99 (2022)

To me it appears that Mattel is the clear winner here. (no pun intended)

LOL, I just had an imaginary conversation with Hasbro, saying I would never buy a figure in a box like that, since I can't check out the actual production quality... and then remembered that every pre-order is exactly that. Laughing

So maybe it won't make that big a difference to the mass of collectors, unless the quality of the paint job is known to vary greatly even within one release?

Personally, I'd rather wait and just buy loose figures on ebay at this point, at least then I know what I'm getting....

ETA: I've never preordered a Black Series in my life so for me that angle is kind of moot. I always like to see the exact figure I am buying.

When they released their awesome Rogue One-based 12th scale Stormtroopers, even though the box had a transparent window, it wasn't always possible to see all the details precisely. And some of the Stromtroopers came with a slightly misshapen head/helmet. Luckily, I had ordered from Amazon, so it was easy to return and get replacements. But imagine discovering this after picking it yourself from a store shelf... especially when you have no way to look inside.
I suspect an all-cardboard box is cheaper to produce, so the ecological angle (if they have actually claimed such) is likely an excuse (since plastics and cardboard alike are recyclable).

Hasbro is really dropping the ball on many of their lines. I buy a number of figures from different lines and only recently gotten into the 1/6 scale. I did buy the Dr. Octopus Silk two-pack. Part of the problem is the average Marvel Legend runs about $25.

Marvel Legends 1/12 scale Ironheart Deluxe Figure and Hasbro's new plastic free packaging Img_2021

The first picture is a Playmates Michaelango from a two-pack with Bebop and a Super7 Baxter Stockman. The two-pack was about $40 and Baxter was about $30. Baxter Stockman included extra hands, weapons and a Mouser.

This includes
Mcfarlane DC
Lex Luthor
Azrael
TV Riddler Each normally $20

Bandai
Cooler and Broly $20 each

Marvel Legends Lizard and Dr. Octopus (from the two-pack with Silk)

Mattel Ultra-Humanite and Neca Ming the Merciless. I can't remember what I paid for them.

The last is a Phicen 1/12 woman. I'm trying to figure what clothing and where to get them and possibly an alternate head. The only thing that Hasbro is doing to keep me interested is the GI Joe classified line. I can do an entire post based on my problems with the Transformer line.

I don't know if you've opened up your Ironheart, but I threw away the packaging for my Dr. Octopus and Silk two pack before seeing this post, but I did buy a Transformer in a no plastic package.

Rope made out of paper sounds like a big improvement over the plastic ties. I welcome this trend. Smile
