I like this. It appears to be a rendition of the soldiers of the famous Ming loyalist Koxinga, "Prince of Yanping," holding out on Taiwan against the Manchu (Qing) conquest, in the second half of the 17th century. The partly European/European-influenced armor is a reference to interaction with the Dutch, among others.
