Sharpe's Loup and Captain Frederickson, Major Sharpe (modded), Sergeant Harper mods (done for now) WIP

From the legendary novels by Bernard Cornwell and brought to TV by Sean Bean and co. These great Napoleonic War epics have always been close to my heart. I have already made a Major Sharpe, Sergeant Major Patrick Harper and have plenty of regulars and cavalry around them from the wars in 1/6. I've been meaning to tidy up the mess the bloody cats made of my 'history of war in 1/6' room and to motivate me to do it I thought completing two intended builds (for years sitting in tupperware containers) of one of Sharpe's coolest enemies and one of his best friends (that he royally screws over...) would do the trick so here goes.

REFERENCE PICS

BRIGADIER GENERAL LOUP, no other description given (I need to watch the episode again) is a French cavalry scout leader? It's so hard to tell, every cavalry on every side were dressing up as Hussars it feels like as it was heavily in fashion at the time, just google it, I can't tell the French From the British, Polish, Hungarian (the original Hussars), Russian, Prussian etc..
To confuse it further he's wearing a Dragoon's helmet and his men seem to be Lancers! I'm not trying to imply it's historically inaccurate, I'm sure there were plenty of 'rag-tag' specialised units on the French side just as Sharpe's 95th Rifles are portrayed. The lance was considered a 'weapon of terror' when used by a cavalry unit so I'm guessing these guys were hit and run cavalry scouts that went behind enemy lines to terrorise civilians and small garrisons alike then disappear. just like the wolf pack they represent (Loup is French for wolf) with their wolf fur coats and Loup's custom helmet. Anyway he's a nasty piece of work making an excellent villain.

CAPTAIN WILLIAM FREDERICKSON AKA 'SWEET WILLIAM'
A very competent and battle scarred Captain of a Rifles company that is absorbed by Major Sharpe's 95th Rifles, he soon becomes a very loyal and trusting friend of Sharpe's who saves him many times only to have Sharpe run off with the woman he loves turning him against Sharpe later in the series because Sharpe lived up to his actual name 'Dick'. He does somehow have a fancier uniform than Sharpe, never understood that.

REAL BUTTONS AND LOOPS, YES IT WAS A CHALLENGE LOL. NEEDED A BABY SCREWDRIVER TO PULL LOOPS OVER THE BUTTONS (THEY ACTUALLY USED BUTTON TOOLS IRL TO FASTEN AND UNFASTEN THEIR BUTTONS ON EVERYTHING) SUPER GLUED IN PLACE NOW SO WON'T POP OUT ALL THE TIME.

What a great project! I used to watch this show as a kid, though I remember hardly any of it. But I do remember liking it and Sean Bean was always Sharpe to me. Until Boromir.

Would love the see these two with the rest of the characters you already have!

I like this a lot, and it is bit different as subject matter from the other builds I've seen you do. Always interesting to see the build/modification process. Looking forward to the final results.

What a cool idea, and already some progress. Oddly, despite knowing of the books and the series, I’ve never indulged in either. Always wanted to read the books, so it’s cool to see something different like this.

Cheers! He will always be Sharpe to me, otherwise he is "that guy who always dies in the movies or TV series!"    as pointed out by a friend of mine lol.

Cheers! Watch it! It's fun! Since it's historically based and very well cast it doesn't seem nearly as dated as many of it's contemporary productions. I've watched the whole series a good few times and probably will again now too.

It's mainly boots and gloves right now particularly the 'battle of the boots' who will win? place your bets lol. Basically trying two different approaches to the same boots, one pair with the pleather outer shell stripped off and the other I'm trying to save the pleather, losers go to the King George Hussar figure as his boots are mostly covered. I'm also trying two types of white 'edging' one set with white marker and the other with white ribbon. Had to narrow the jacket's sleeves to fit the modded and repainted gauntlets over the cuffs. The helmet arrived today yay! Doesn't fit his sculpted hair, boo! Neither does the solid metal one so no money wasted I just need to come up with a compromise starting with the helmet first since it has plenty of wolf fur to be applied over it to hide multiple mods hopefully. I ordered an A4 sheet of faux Wolf fur, I didn't even know they sold it lol!

Yeah the pleather is garbage as we all know, the hair will be fun, it's meant to be darker anyway and his tache should connect to his sideburns. A couple of very short scene specific Loup videos for you to get context. I'd forgotten what a long crazy cloak he has!



The terrible acting by the English Lord of the Irish (ironically) troops is not indicative of the series and I'm so glad he only appears in one episode! Loupe should have appeared in more not just my bias but he was a much longer running character spanning several of the books.

Ah, what a classic - good luck fighting the materials! Hopefully the murderin’ and killin’ officers don’t get too much of a look in. I was halfway through watching the The Last Kingdom before I realised it was also written by Bernard Cornwell, talented bloke.

Actually looks like a fun series. Might have to look it up.

Yes I read all The Last Kingdom books, watched a lot of the series too, is it still going? The first book that really got me into Bernard Cornwell was The Winter King, an Arthurian trilogy collectively known as The Warlord Chronicles. Copperhead is another good series by him about the American Civil War.

Most of his stuff is!

Changed the gauntlets for custom longer ones, nicked the cuff decoration as I might use it for his trousers. Gone over everything gold with another gold pen that's brighter. Chose the boots I'm using (the ones with the pleather coat removed). Cut his sculpted hair off oh and the faux wolf fur arrived today, should do the job but nothing special about it, a bit disappointing to be honest.



AFTER PUTTING THEM ON I GAVE THEM A BRUSHED ON COAT OF GLOSS.









HIS SWORD AND SABRETACHE BELT IS BLACK WHICH IS A BIT ANNOYING SINCE MINE'S WHITE AND LOUSY PLEATHER.

And yes, I've read so many of Bernard Cornwell's books, Sharpe, The Last Kingdom series (called the Saxon Chronicles when I first started reading them), and yes...The Winter King. The latter two have also both been made into tv shows now, but I have refused to watch them because I'm too picky about early medieval costumes and visuals.

The Sharpe tv series is a classic for me though.... largely cause of Sean Bean as well as the rest of the cast, but also there is just something extremely charming about the television-budget early 90s period drama vibe. The soundtrack theme songs alone are iconic and I always get them stuck in my head.

I hadn't realised they had made a tv series of the Winter King or Warlord Chronicles.
Ah yes the famous theme song, sung by Rifleman Daniel Hagman (the best shot as well) himself aka John Tams. Fourth to the right back row in the picture you have there.

Looking good. If that is rabbit fut, it was recently suggested to pluck out the longer hairs so that it would look more convincing as wolf fur in sixth scale.

Aha! So "Loup" is the inspiration for the DiD "Napoleonic" head sculpt that I spent ages looking for online a few years back. I had no idea what that head was from when I began looking.

DiD issued a set of four "Napoleonic" action figure heads that I presume are based on the cast of Sharpe.

This looks like a fascinating project, combining historical research, television show research, and impressive crafting skills and an eye for detail.

Just started watching the show. One episode down. Pretty good so far. My one complaint would be the oddly out of place electric guitar for parts of the music — reminds me of Ladyhawke.

Cheers! Yup the set comes with Loup, Sharp, Harper and a generic Napoleonic British officer's head, at least I don't recognise it as any character in particular. You can still find them cheap on eBay.

LOL, well it was the 90's, if it were the 80's we'd have a synthesizer! Be grateful they didn't use anything dafter! LOL.
If you're watching them in order there's actually a prequel called 'Sharpe's Tiger' about his service in India and how he became an officer even though he was just an enlisted soldier normally couldn't rise in rank above Master Sergeant, he saves Lord Wellington's life; not really a spoiler as they refer to this often in the series but there's a lot more to the episode than that! A really good one starring Toby Stephens (Black Sails, James Bond 'Golden Eye'etc..) as the lead villain with a stunning Indian female model Padma Lakshmi along side him.

And back to the project, the way you fearlessly modify just about ANYTHING in pursuit of creating your figures is always so impressive. The creativity to think of scalping the gorilla for his hair! lol!

You're so fast!! And this is coming along nicely! Definitely better with the wig.

But it just goes to show that he is the kind of actor who will always give a character enough weight for the death to have an impact, even when he is the bad guy.

Ah yes, Sharpe. There is someone who frequently recommends to watch it. The Underdog British Empire against the evil French. What would they be without their supersoldier who wins all their battles.

I really like your loops an buttons chest, I'd lose motivation to do that when just looking at the reference pic. And your painted them with a golden sharpie (haha) after attaching them and without gilding the shirt.

And I also like cheesy guitar riffs. For me some 90s nostalgia is easier to stomach than the omnipresent 80s that somehow never ended.

Thanks! It was more of an experiment than anything just for fun as he'll be posed wearing his helmet anyway so anything close to a likeness in hairstyle is a bonus!

I love that you call it a wig! It does look a bit like one, I wonder if the actor was wearing one too? Yes Sean Bean has played some great characters.

Well the 95th Rifles were more of a sneaky Special Forces group who took any advantage they could, like wearing green for a start! Not lining up on a battlefield to just be shot by cannons instead they would hide in the high ground and use their far more accurate weapons for sniping. They had to be 'Chosen Men' though, you couldn't just join them, a bit like the SAS or Navy SEAL's I guess. I can't take credit for all the lovely stitching, that was done by DID for their British Hussar figure called 'George' I just changed all the colours and I'm about to replace the fur too.

More messing around with the gorilla hair, not really styled, not sure this thick stuff can be at this length but I'll try..maybe. The helmet is actually mostly steel! I had assumed it was plastic since it's so light compared to my other metal one.







USED HAIR I'D CUT OFF EARLIER TO FILL ANY BALD PATCHES (CHEAP ROOTED HAIR WIDELY SPACED) AND GAVE HIM SOME EARS AS I FIGURED HE'D NEED THEM.
