They look very good overall, although I have some doubts about the heads and the choice of gauntlets. I was just bemoaning the fact the earlier crusader figures by CooModel were both long sold out and godlessly overpriced... so I suppose it will come down the pricing on these when (and if) the time comes.

I don't know much about how this armor is supposed to look, but I think it looks cool. That being said, I don't get why they have to make such ugly and deformed looking head sculpts -- would it kill them to make something that doesn't look like a Cro-Magnon -- I guess they don't want you to ever take the helmets off.

LOL, interesting point. I think there is a notion that "ugly" heads look more masculine or more realistic or both, and some of that seems to be behind some of Kaustic Plastik's choices too (as you can see in my Roman infantry 2019 review). I'm all for character and realism, but I think this is overcorrection that ends up in error...

By the way, following up on shazzdan's response to my China Toys Teutonic Knight review (who really has no head to look at), I figured out that these new CooModel knights are already in stock (or becoming available) and that they sell for $400 or more each. So I think I'll be regretfully passing on them.

$400 dollars! That sucks. Too bad, I'm sure they would have looked great in your collection. Sadly, a lot of these companies are pricing me out, as well. I would have gotten the Rescue Pepper if it was more around $260 -- but $400 is insane for one figure. Even some of the TBL's lately have been pushing $200 -- which I think, for as much as I like many of their products, is over-priced by about $40-50.

Yep, my feelings exactly. The old CooModel crusader knights were also overpriced at the time, which is why I passed on them (in fact, I tried to not look at them) -- they were perhaps close to or around $300 then (or at any rate much more expensive than the average high end figures of their time). I freely admit that economics is not my forte, but I remain convinced that lower prices would earn companies more sales and "hook" more customers, which ought to result in at least slightly greater profits than they must get now. In fact, if they made them affordable enough, I bet some people would get these as children's toys, too, which is not what they are designed to be -- and that ought to help sales substantially. But no, let's make these special, rare, and as expensive as we think doable.

Really sucks about the prices. There are parts of these that might make nice fantasy kitbashes [I'm thinking book-based A Song of Ice and Fire characters], but no way would I pay that much for the boxed figure... especially with such bizarre looking heads. Will keep an eye out for parted out pieces in future, perhaps.

To be fair, i'm pretty sure thats just ebay sellers jacking up the price.
If i remember correctly; if you bought one of these at the convention proper it should be around $200.
One of my local sellers was actually able to get some of the exclusive figures from last years Shanghai Comic Con at the same price they were being sold for; i'm hoping thats the case for this convention as wellas i'm also interested in these figures.

The Hospitaller's head would look good as a Taliban kitbash. Other than that, not my cup of tea.

I agree the prices were probably lower at the conventions (but let's face it, how many of those do most of us get to?), but prices of over $400 for brand new and available figures (as opposed to a few difficult to find leftovers from years ago) does seem to indicate to me a high price to begin with. And there is a range, where $400 is the lower end, the higher going above $460. I looked at some of the other offerings by the eBay seller who was asking for $400 (shipping included), and his other items didn't seem to be overpriced compared to what they go for elsewhere. But anyway, I hope your reasonable local seller gets you some for a better price.

I looked around and there's a promotional image on BBICN that (unless im misinterpreting) says they should have sold for 1380 RMB, or 200USD according to conversion rates:



Those Ebay sellers are ridiculous; I think their hope is that buyers outside of China who have no hope of getting to the cons will be desperate enough to pay.

You're quite right. And they are not quite off in their expectations, for the most part.

I really like them. But the priiice...I guess I will have to continue creating my own armor.  


And the teutonic headsculpt reminds me of bavarian actor Andreas Giebel:

Don't know the actor but the resemblance is unmistakable!
I'd be very surprised if the Hospitaller head is based on a real person...
looks like he's in mid-transformation to being a werewolf!

I don't know if it is really based on Andreas or just the same facial type, but it does look like him a lot.
