While they have a tendency to overemphasize the latest and most ornate forms and to mix and match, the overall effect is very cool. If this is meant to be an Egyptian Mamluk (1250-1517), the scale armor seems to have been a thing of the past, but otherwise something like this (with an even more elaborate helmet) is shown in Osprey's Men-at-Arms series 259 as a Khassaki Mamluk from c. 1515. However, his tunic shows under the (chain) mail, and the latter is reinforced with horizontal metal bands over the chest.

Yes, some were, especially those belonging to the elite or equipped by it. But this particular combination does not seem quite right for what it is supposed to be.

Yep. You've got pieces from different eras mashed together on one figure. Each piece looks good individually.

What's wrong with the assumption that a warrior might take the field wearing a mix of some then-contemporary armors or weapons together with some older stuff, whether it was maybe stuff from his own family, or the army itself had shortages of the latest gear, or they simply reused weapons or gear until they fell apart?  Arguably one thing that is wrong with the visual representations we're too used to seeing in movies or whatever, is that the prop master or costume designer looked at a textbook picture of a typical soldier of the era, and now there are fifty or a hundred absolutely identical soldiers.

These people were infatuated with conspicuous consumption. Anyone from the social class that used this gear would not demean themselves with anything that has been out of fashion for a decade, let alone hundreds of years.
