“Stark made me some new dancing shoes. What do you think?” – Steve Rogers

Who does Peggy Carter call in for backup when she needs it? Steve Rogers, of course. In this universe, Peggy Carter jumps into the action with a number of familiar faces, but even she might need some help defeating the enemy. Calling in air support, she certainly doesn’t expect Steve to come swooping in – in a Hydra Stomper suit.

Inspired by Marvel Studios’ What If…? animation series, Hot Toys is thrilled to bring The Hydra Stomper and Steve Rogers as 1/6th scale Collectible Set to recreate some awesome fight scenes.

Captured Hydra Stomper’s appearance in What If…? animation series, the 1/6th scale figure is complemented with perfectly scaled design, outstanding painting applications, also mechanical details such as thrusters, shooters, and an opening cockpit. Measuring at approximated 56cm in height, it features LED Light-up designs on the eyes, and arc reactor; semi-articulated body with the ability to perform head, shoulder, arms, wrist and waist movements.

Meticulously crafted based on his latest appearance in What If…? animation series, Steve Rogers 1/6th scale figure features a newly developed head sculpt and hair sculpture with remarkable likeness, finely tailored outfit, a backpack, a selection of interchangeable hands, and a display base.

Expand your What If…? collection with The Hydra Stomper and Steve Rogers collectible set!

It is cool that they have a retro mech that is big enough for a 1:6 figure to fit inside. The price is ridiculous. If it was a generic mech instead of a Marvel license, and made by a proper toy company such as Mattel or Tomy instead of HT, it would be closer to $250.

All kidding aside, you're getting a HT Steve Rogers figure for $200 and a HT Iron Man that's actually taller than the Hulkbuster, for $425. Did anybody seriously expect the price would be less than that?

I fully agree that it's good they made it larger enough to fit a figure inside. The question with any mech is, where does the man's body fit. It can be roughly human sized like a regular Iron Man, maybe propped up on platform feet like the Iron Red Snapper, but with the arms and legs inside the arms and legs. Or, it has to be about twice the height of a man with all the body entirely fitting inside the torso. Nothing inbetween. You'd think that was obvious, but Hasbro completely screwed up the mass retail version of this very Hydra Stomper (maybe to keep it under $60) by making it about 1 1/2 the height of a man, and thus, an absolutely impossible size.

There are hundreds of two-foot plastic toy robots on the market; I remember having a set of Shogun Warriors in the 1970s. The main difference with this one is that you can fit a 12-inch action figure inside.

I don't mean to be snarky or disrespectful, but have you actually ever had a HT Iron Man figure in hand? If you think that's the "main difference" between a HT figure and a vintage robot, or even a current collectible-level robot by someone like Hasbro, I suspect you have not. There are massive differences in the details, materials, paint apps, multiple components, and even at the elaborate engineering level - to say nothing of the artistic underlying component, and the by hand skills that go into the headsculpt.. You might as well equate a Lamborghini to a VW Bug. I am by no means an HT fanboy (quite the opposite) but you're way overstretching to make a point. In today's market IMHO a HT figure, scary expensive though it may be, is actually delivering more substantial actual value than the 7 Hasbro Marvel Legends or McFarlane figures that would be the price equivalent. If Ht figures aren't your side of the hobby, fine, I totally get it, but let's not throw logic to the winds.

I don't find the price surprising -- in part because of what it is, in part because it is by Hot Toys. I'm sure the quality will be high, although for my personal taste it is already blunted by being animation-style (I know, I'm missing the point, but my appreciation is for realism, where Hot Toys really shines). Ironically, the Stomper itself does not suffer too much (or I should say does not necessarily suffer too much -- since I can't be bothered to look) from the animation-style; if I really wanted it, I could just get it by itself and bash together a Cap figure to go with/inside it.
