I recently got a long-awaited figure in, the LIM Toys Arthur Morgan from Red Dead Redemption 2.
Super impressed right out of the box, even though the lever for the rifle was missing, but I'll see what I can do about that...
He's sporting a custom sculpted body, which is really great, however it's borderline too much as it sort of hinders articulation, and makes his clothing fit very tightly.
I swapped him to a True Type sort of body, and things move a lot easier now.
He comes with two heads and four hair pieces, interchangeable with handy magnets.
With the longer hair, however, the plastic hat he came with doesn't fit very well.
So I dug out the usual and got to work.
I used my usual, paper towel lined with tape, however then I glued another layer of paper on the tape.
I wanted to have a leather look on the top and bottom of the brim.
I traced, erring on the bigger side, the brim shape, cut it out and then folded and made a small cross slit in the center of the brim.
I widened the slits slowly until it fit well over the head.
Then I cut the slits into halves, as you can see in the photo below, and then quartered them after I took the photo to ensure there was sufficient bend around the head.
Then it was a matter of the crown of the hat. I cut a swatch which would fully fit around the head, then glued it to the triangle tabs.
A slit on the top of the crown let me roll the edges in, in preparation for the top of the crown.
Got the top installed and working on hashing out the length of the rope band.
The rope I'm using here is something I had kicking around from a roast.
Got the brown base painted, as well.
Then I applied some black wash to tone it down, and a couple coats of mod podge to help seal and strengthen things up.
Pretty well there. I touched up some seams with glue and paint after this.
I also made a small sweat band type thing out of some black hockey tape, which also helps with the placement of the hat.
And done.
It's a bit rough, but a definite proof of concept.
I'll likely be making another soon, taking better care with hiding seams and layering, also the crown height on this is a bit too tall.
It'll do for now.
I think I'll remake his satchel next, as it's pretty small and you can't even really fit his journal in it very well.
