Oh man, I'm tempted. I still never bought an R2-D2 and a Clone Wars-era one would be just too perfect. I love his little jets...

R2-D2 in his most glorious Swiss Army Knife versatility! I'm pretty happy with my Sideshow one, but this is very cool, and could easily pass for Original Trilogy.

Yeah, I just can't decide if the dirt and grime on him is just a little *too* much. I don't mind him being dusty and dirty since it works for battle scenes, but not sure if it's too distinctive or not. I'll have to think on it.

It is a little too much (to my eyes, too), but probably that way it will better match their C-3PO.

Such a beautiful creature. Swiss army knife indeed. It will probably quite expensive so they could have added blue tooth speakers making beep-bop-buup

Now they need to do one with him after he's torn to pieces and being carried around on Chewi's back in ESB.

So, I realllly like this version, mainly because it comes with the little jets to make him 'fly'. But it's twice as expensive as the Sideshow R2-D2, so it's hard to actually justify. I don't care about all the other gadgets, I just want to make it look like he's flying, damnit.

ETA: Oh, and Ovy, it does say on the product description that it comes with a remote control feature for the sound effects...

OK, ok, I ended up PO'ing this one today. I had to make a quick decision because the only UK retailer was running out of pre-order slots and I did NOT want to have to pay through the nose for shipping and customs from the US.

At first I thought the weathering on this version was a little too much, but then I remembered that he spends most of the Clone Wars series covered in a layer of dust and grime, so it actually works well for my lineup.

Thanks! Sucks I'll have to wait the usual long wait for Hot Toys to release him, but at least I don't have to stress about which version to get anymore. ;p

Aww, yeah, I went and looked at a video review of one of the previous HT R2-D2's that was more 'clean' and I decided I actually liked the dusty look better! :'D

I just got invoiced for this, so excited!

Out of curiosity, I watched some review videos and now I'm even MORE excited....




He looks and SOUNDS(!) fantastic.  

The amount of sand weathering might be a bit much for some people, but I love it. Mainly because I suspect it's intended as a highly amusing reference to 'it's coarse, rough, and irritating... and gets everywhere'.

Aww, yeah! And my collection was very much missing him.... that R2-shaped hole will soon be filled.  


I'm excited for him for his own sake, but also because having an R2 will finally open up many photoshoot possibilities for me...
