Ohh, that looks like a very nice figure.

Really nice figure overall. Not super keen on the head. It's nicely done and convincing enough, but I get more of a 1950's ad man, rather than modern day special forces. I think it's the hair? Could be good for 50's kitbash though.

Well, there was a time when the military had “standards” when it came to hair, beards, etc. (that’s how it was when I was in), unlike today where all these guys look like a bunch of bums; that would never have flown when I was in.

Regular Soldiers still have to obey grooming standards, but Special Forces aka Green Berets have some more relaxed standards and are allowed to grow beards. That has to do with the fact, that in many Muslim countries, beards are seen as a sign of manliness and authority and if you command local muslim forces, having a beard gets you taken seriously.

Thats one reason you see so many bearded Special Forces guys in Iraq or Afghanistan (at least early on, because later, orders were given to uphold grooming standards. That order was followed depending on how close the Spec Ops guys were to Staff Officers or Cameras. The order was never popular, and later it was rescinded, then contrary to popular belief, the personal grooming standards have no impact on combat effectiveness)

But states sides, I have not seen a lot of Special Forces people with beards, thats only an overseas thing.

Same here. We had to have short back and sides, neat on top. When I signed up, I had shoulder length hair. The barber joked about "taking a bit off the ends, sir", and then buzzed my head to a number one, like scene from full metal jacket!
We had to be clean shaven too, except for mustaches, which every other guy grew...which was actually worse, because we were all 18/19/20, so there a lot of wispy patchy taches about!
We wouldn't have been allowed this sort of style though. "flamboyant", my staff would have said (or something to that effect, only much more homophobic and offensive)
No idea what the standards are like in the UK forces now, but definitely seems more relaxed state side now.
What branch did you serve in?

This guy in full equipment looks more dangerous than all those 47+ Iron Men combined.

Very true about the beards and local customs.
I remember also, that on longer deployments, standards were allowed to slip anyway. Berating a group of tired, hot, strung-out and often scared guys about the state of their hair, wasn't so much of a priority. It was more important to keep morale up.
Guys at less oft visited FOB's would be wandering around in boxer shorts and boots, with t-shirts as sun hats. You do what gets you through.

However, when on home turf it was back to neat and orderly. Especially when stationed in a foreign friendly nation, like bases in Germany or training in the States, personal appearance was expected to be IMPECCABLE. Representing your country and all that. I remember getting Beasted badly for irregular shirt creases on one occasion. I used to shake while ironing after that!

I think it's probably much the same now, just as you say, operating in different nations, means different local customs, which dictates a change in standards, but it's ship shape and Bristol fashion on base.

I still think this fella looks a little too dapper to be a para (after 1945) though lol. He looks bad*** in his full gear however.

Another great set. See, with soldiers, it's perfect to have multiples and slight variations. Smile I think they're reusing the head.
