Melancholia

In my recent research for solutions for retaining dye on clothing for Phicen I found out a couple of things. The use of salt or vinegar only works when used in the initial dye process of fabric. Also, Retayne and Rit Colorstay Dye Fixitive do not work on synthetic fabrics. They only work on cotton, linen, silk, wool, ramie and rayon, or other natural fibers, or fabrics of at least 50% natural fibers. From what I understand there's not much to be done to keep the dye in synthetic fabrics from running or staining. This occurs mostly in incorrect dye procedures, or excess application of dye. But I did read that washing in cold water until the bleeding stops is the only method that works. Wish I would have taken the time to find this out before treating every colored item I've ever bought for my figures with Retayne or Rit. I guess try to stick with high quality products and stay away from repeat offenders such as Dollsfigure. And if unsure may as well buy a roll of that plastic wrap made for this problem and cover as much area of the figure that will be touching the clothing as possible.  I found cheap rolls that last forever on Aliexpress. Hope this helps...

I only ever used Rit Dye once, and it didn’t do anything. Never used it again. Cold water is always best for this stuff —pretty much real life clothing, too.

Thanks for sharing your findings here. I'm sure it will save people some time , money, and frustration. Sorry you had to learn the hard way, though.

I've only attempted 'setting' fabric that has been painted, and had never really tried to remove dye before, so I'm glad to be aware of this.
