Anyone know what is happening with the Coomodel skeleton? It still seems to be a current line on Coomodel's website but I can't find a single supplier anywhere on the planet who has it in stock.

Fascinating work on these customs! Thanks a ton for sharing all the steps, this is really inspiring! Absolutely fantastic!

Excellent sculpting skills!! I see we're both making bladed weapons from styrene sheet! LOL.

Thanks@all.

Thanks @GubernatorFan for the Coo review. I am not a fan of the head, but everything else looks good.
@shazzdan It seems to be available on monkey depot: http://www.monkeydepot.com/Boxed_Figure_COO_Models_Human_Skeleton_2_0_p/coom0031.htm
@MerylAkiba Maybe this helps: https://www.worbla.com/?page_id=6713

Now for the shield: It was one of the very first items I tried to make in January, but I did not find the right materials and failed 4 times. Now I found a round balsawood like plate (from some packaged round cheese), cut the lines and the hole into it. The shield Boss is made from Worbla.

06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 RsfXlkZ

The failed shield bosses can be used as adorable hats.
06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 7Ypa5Sc

I used Worbla for the Rim, but was not pleased with the result. I had the idea to use a cable - I pulled the inner cables out, cut them to connect it into a ring. I put small nails into the rim and boss. The rivets on the back side where made with green stuff. A leather belt was added to fit the arm. (I might add a grip for the hand in the future.)
No glue had to be used.

06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 FlMQLVB

Now some shots with the shield in action. I just put some rags in the background to cover the transition between background and floor, I actually want to make a beach scenery with rotting dark seaweed. Does anyone have an idea what material I could use to reproduce stinking seaweed piles? (does not have to stink)

Very nice work on the shield! Did you clip off the protruding portions of the nails you used? When I first saw them complete, I thought you would have bent them, but then again, that would look weird when the underside of the shield is exposed, so it makes sense that you didn't.

Sweet work on the bonus. Very atmospheric, all of your scenes.

For seaweed... you might want to look at the plastic plants they sell for aquariums. Some of them are in the dark green/red/etc colors for water plants, although none of them are supposed to be dead or rotting... If you find the right type(s), you can shear them off their stems and make the desired piles. It will probably take a lot of them... You could also look at the selection of fake plants sold by Hobby Lobby and Michaels or other hobby stores, although those do not usually tend to be aquatic -- there might be things that are usable in terms of shape and color.

Nope. Nobody has it in stock.

I make shield bosses from steel computer cases. The wooden planks are popsicle sticks.

I'm going to try your idea about using wire insulation for shield rims.

The shield looks perfect! Great job! If you ever need rougher more corroded looking armour try using felt card, I use it a lot for LOTR Orcs and Uruk-Hai for example, you can add sand with PVA glue on it for more texture too, even just plain old real dirt works as well.

This thread continues to just break my brain. Those undead monstrosities look freakin incredible, and all the armor is just so damn gorgeous. Those action shots are a blast too!

Gorgeous work on the shield. Fifth time's the charm...

Ovy

@ Gubernator: Yeah I clipped of the nails. They were short and hard, I doubt they can be bent.
I think I might use kitchen sponge for the seaweed, but the idea using aqurium accessoires is great, I found a lot of cheap and good looking stuff that can be used for vegetation and scenery, but not sure what to buy/how to use it yet.

@shazzdan: That shield is looking great! I also wanted to use popsickle planks first, but I stuck to the ingame model of the shield, which uses 6 planks. But wooden tongue depressors might be the right size. I like the idea using the computer case on the dapping block, I might get one of those.

@Reverend Spooky: Thanks, I hope the action shots will get better with the new background elements. I am also happy for any input or links on 6 scale photography, especially how to get better with the lighting.

@dadrab: Thanks, yeah it took some time but I did not want to give up on the shield, and I am happy how light weight it is now.

@shovel: Thanks, I might use the Sand/PVA method for the Zombie armor. I also used it to make a grout for the diorama which I started, inspired by screenshots of Orrian architecture:
06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 OydhEbQ

Sculpted cobblestone using polymere clay. The cheap, air drying stuff (lower) tends to break and shrink.
06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 Vgw2s11

I also finished sculpting and painting the hands of the undead.
06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 KQtBmVm

Used styrofoam boxes for ruins. I sprayed it with grey Enamel, because it eats away the styrofoam texture to look more like stone. I put a grout made of acrylic grey and fine sand all over it.  The Enamel wasn't really necessary, won't do it again.
06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 STCZPSa

Now for some diorama shots. I put them in spoilers. Still a bit clean, I will add more weathering, rubble and cobblestone, maybe but loose sand over the floor.

VERY cool! Those hands must be super delicate to work on and use. Clever idea using the styrofoam for the dio, Orrian architecture? Is that from a game or some South American tribe I can't remember building the likes of Machu Picchu?

Thanks! Those hands are rather robust and elastic, they have wires in them and most of the thumbs are magnetic.

Orrian Architecture is from the Guild Wars 2, the game these figures are based off. If you want to read some lore:

If you are interested, here are also some wiki links to the armor parts I tried to recreate:
Helmet
Pauldrons
Body
Legs
Boots and Gauntlets

Started to make the helmet crest. I left a gap when I made the helmet, not sure what material I would use for the crest. I used brush bristles as shovel suggested. I will have to weather/darken the shiny white crest  a bit.

Man, this is the thread that keeps on giving...

Damn fine work on many levels.

Ovy

Ovy
Thanks everyone!

I started to make some tassets and more belts.

The clothing between cuirass and legs was never really finished, random leather bands wrapped around the hips and waist etc. I covered it with the black mantle, but wanted to have some real protection there, so I made tassets. I put the lames on a jar and heated them, so they all have the same form.
Thanks to the little nails the lames are moveable which helps posing. That was my last larger piece of Worbla.
06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 JxaVhUz

I remade the 'leather' piece (made of worbla) with leather to be more flexible and realistic. I might thin the leather on the straps a bit. Does anyone have a good idea how to make/where to find those 'pyramid' shaped appendices you can see here?

06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 FK96Jga

I decided to make a double belt, the lower one will be for the tassets, the upper one might be used for weapon holsters in the future.
06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 XLrQxW2

I took off the armor to get an overview where to add more leather in the future. Does anyone have a good idea for simple belt buckles for small straps?
06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 DKh3ukJ

06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 VqqJ2KR

I might tone down the leather a bit. I might also change the position of the lames to be more at the front.
06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 GSK7v7X

Weathered the crest.
06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 6AwJXe9

The easiest belt fastener is the double-ring buckle. Works well at small scale because you don't need a hinged tongue and you don't have to punch holes in the strap.

A more primitive version that might work for a fantasy or historical costume is the single ring but these were less common than a lot of re-enactors seem to think.

My god, that armor is breathtaking. Just so freakin cool.

If you're looking for buckles, this is my go to:

Great selection. Shazzdan's suggestion for the double ring buckle also makes a lot of sense, and would look great for the more medieval aspects of the outfit.

Thanks everyone!

No new pics yet, just responding:

@shazzdan Thanks for the double ring tip! I will try that. And yeah I stumpled upon many 'medieval belt' pics with only one ring, but I did not really like those.

For the gauntlet I used these as a base: https://www.actionfiguren-shop.com/Zubehoer/Koerper-Koepfe-Haende/Haende-weiblich/Biker-Handschuh-Haende-schwarz.html
I bought them when I had no real idea how this project would start/end.

These pics from my first post are the only WIP Pics I made, I think. The metal parts are sculpted over the glove with greenstuff. I started at the fingertips and worked my way up to the kunckles. I think I rolled little green balls or cut flat squares, put them on the fingers and then used a flat silicon brush to get them in shape. I let each section dry before starting with the next, also sanded a little. I added those little pyramids on the knuckles to match the boots and elbow parts. The rest was done with small worbla sheets. I might cut off the hands and add pegs for more articulation one day but not sure how yet.
06/08/2022 Jaroyesz - Plate armor finished - Page 2 5Uyk783

@spooky Thanks for the link, this looks like a great shop with very intereseting items! There also working buckles without movable hinges I think? But I might have to find a shop in Europe for that.

Here is a pic of a side project, WIP, but be warned it's 1/12:

Ye, I am still working on it. But not much interesting progress, mostly replacing joints and leatherwork etc.  I also made some doubleringed belts like shazzdan suggested, but I will put them in the next post.

I replaced the mage's skeleton with a normal one, as it is totally covered by clothing. Only the hands and head had to be customized to fit the body. I made the photos in front of a TV screen. I made some fighting pics too, but I am not finished with post production yet.
