Figure Build 5: Maiden in BlackAlright, with it being another weekend, I have a few hours of spare time to write up another figure build. So without further ado, here it is. I had a project in mind where I wanted to have fully seamless fingers and toes. Normally, I would go with LD Doll, as I have purchased five bodies from them with no issues whatsoever. I figured I might as well take a shot with another manufacturer, that being UD Doll, also called UANDD Doll and Unique Doll.
I decided to pick up the UD body titled "ud 细腰宽臀版 3d游戏模型", which roughly translates to ""UD slim waist and wide hips version of 3D game model." I'm not entirely sure what to call this body, as there are plenty of other UD doll bodies in their official store. In the body comparison section, I refer to this body as the "UD Videogame Body." This body was quite popular on Taobao, with dozens of orders over the past 30 days, so I was curious to see what all the rage was about. I'm not entirely sure what the inspiration for this body was, but I think it's meant to be a stylized videogame character body, like 2B from Nier Automata.
I was planning to write up a detailed review of the body, but, frankly, I don't have the time or the patience to critique the articulation, take pictures, and all that. It's quite time-consuming, as I'm sure the fellow reviewers on this board can attest to that.
Like LDDoll, UD Doll offers various optional upgrades when purchasing a body. I don't think I can list out what all of the upgrades are here, as some of them are explicit, so I'll just post the link to the product page so you can see for yourself if interested.

Some of the upgrades I got were moveable fingers and bones, removing silicone mold lines, and body airbrushing. One benefit of ordering on Taobao is that you can match the color of the body to pretty much whatever color you want by contacting UD directly. I didn't have any specific color needs, so I just went with the typical TBLeague Pale color. It's important to note that these bodies are
expensive, and with all the optional upgrades added, the total cost is $200. It's 5x the cost of the standard TBLeague $40 body, so it is considered a more
premium choice. However, how the quality holds up to TBLeague is up for debate.
Here are the specs of the body provided by UD Doll:
Running the image through Google Translate will give the following:
It's a bit messy, but you can see what the specifications are. This body is kind of on the taller side, though not as tall as the S42/S52.
Here's the box. The cardstock is pretty high quality. I have to admit, the packaging is quite nice.
Here's all the contents out of the box. It comes with an information pamphlet, a bag of neck connectors, a small brush, and a vial of cornstarch. Pretty typical stuff here.
Here's a closer look at the neck connectors. They are made of plastic and threaded on the body. They simply screw on to the neck. There are a lot of options to accommodate different head sculpts.
Next, this is the information pamphlet. They included a pretty cool wax seal. Haven't seen one of those in a long time.
That center sleeve piece contains an introduction to UD Doll.
This is what I got after running the image through Google Translate. The text, hopefully, is easy to understand.
The rest of the pamphlet is self-explanatory, so I didn't bother to translate it. It goes over articulation, the neck connectors, how to care for your doll, etc. With that extra stuff out of the way, we can now look at the doll itself.
I have to censor the image, but I'd like to point out that this doll's body features much more detailed anatomy than TBLeague. It's great for those who like that sort of thing. I certainly do. But, anyway, because I don't want to spend the effort censoring every image going forward, let's just put some underwear on the body to take care of that "issue."
The underwear was a tight fit (there's some underboob showing when there shouldn't be), but I didn't have any other alternatives for the body to wear. It'll suffice. As mentioned previously, the height of the body is stated to be 26.3 cm, and it does appear to be right. The following is a bad picture now that I think about it but it'll give a rough idea.
I did go ahead and install a neck connector and then the i8Toys neck adapter. Those i8Toys adapters are my favorites; they're extremely versatile. In fact, I picked up two i8Toys heads just for those connectors hah. Here are a few pictures of the body at different angles.
The body has what looks to be a medium bust and a large butt. That's pretty much why I've been referring it to a body similar to 2B from Nier Automata. It has similar proportions. I think it is also similar to the recently announced Verycool body. There is also some muscle definition to the body

The fingers and toes look a bit messy, and that would be because I didn't bother tidying them up at this stage. It's quite easy to bend them. Overall, the articulation is good, but I did not want to push the articulation as far as it could go because this is a $200 body after all. But it seems to be your typical seamless body articulation. Again, I did not want to find out how far the articulation could go. The seamless fingers are nice because you can pull off a variety of poses, like this one, for example:
Lastly, I forgot to mention that this body cannot stand. It is not a big deal for me since I use figure stands on all my figures anyway. Imagine a $600 doll figure falling over...yeah, no
Well, that's pretty much it for this "review," if you could even call it that. I will do some body comparisons a bit later, and I do apologize for the lackluster "review." Again, I don't have time to do a proper one.
Now, finally, here's what I did with the body. If you missed the title of this reply, I wanted to make a character called "Maiden in Black" from my favorite videogame, Demon's Souls. It seemed fitting to use a videogame body for a videogame character.
Here's a closeup of her portrait:
She basically has candle wax covering the entirety of her eyes. She definitely has a unique appearance, to say the least. The reason I wanted seamless feet and toes is that this character is always barefoot. Her feet are a big part of her design.
And no, I don't have a foot fetish.Heck, that was one of the selling points of her official figure:
Anyway, I saw this artwork by Atamagaitai of the Maiden in Black that I thought looked cool.
Here she's wearing modern clothing instead of her usual fantasy outfit, with a handbag. I wanted to recreate the character using a one-piece shirt. It has to be black, of course. So ideally, some kind of tapered shirt dress or sweater dress. I also wanted a blue jewel necklace to complete the look.
Because of her hairstyle, I don't think the usual Saran or Nylon hair I use would be suitable. I opted for animal hair, which seems to be a popular choice for hair rooting on this board.
Now I'll need to find a head sculpt that looks like her. There were three things I was looking for in the head sculpt: the same nose shape, large, full lips, and the same chin/jaw shape. I scoured the 1/6-scale head sculpt market on eBay and on Taobao and did not find anything promising. I decided to check out the 3D-printed/Bootleg head sculpt market on Taobao. I found the following head sculpt:
It has the correct chin/jaw shape and has large lips, like I wanted. However, the nose is not right, but at that point, I was willing to compromise. Overall, it is an attractive-looking head. I contacted the seller and requested one printed in white resin. And yes, the color of the resin matters quite a bit when airbrushing. Here's the head I received. It's on a spare S37 TBLeague body:
Next, I would need to get the candle wax sculpted. I sent it over to an artist by the name of "Redpiano Miniatures," who I've been working with for almost 7 years at this point. I've commissioned all sorts of stuff over the years—miniatures, garage kits, 1/6-scale accessories, etc. Mostly display pieces, though. He sculpted the candle wax using white Milliput putty.
After that, I need to send it to the doll artist I work with, HeadArtFactory. Here's how that turned out:
I think he nailed it. The sculpt looks exactly like her. I'm pleased with how it turned out. For the outfit, I'm using a one-piece black sweater dress by Mudo Toys.
There are other sweater dresses on the 1/6-scale market, but I found those to be cheap-looking. The dress by Mudo Toys is tapered at the waist and made of this very elastic fabric. It feels like it is of very high quality. The rest of the outfit was sourced from Taobao. A metal anklet, rings, a blue jewel necklace, and a handbag.
Here's how the outfit looks put together:
Another thing to note is that the seamless hands, as with LDDoll, cannot hold heavy items. The handbag was light enough, but don't expect the hands to support the weight of 1/6-scale swords or rifles. It won't work. Moving on, this next bit might be controversial, but I wanted to replicate the filthy, soot-covered feet that the "Maiden in Black" has. Doing so would involve intentionally damaging the body.
I have this black pigment I used back in my miniature painting days.
I drybrushed some of the powder onto her feet to emulate the artwork from Atamagaitai. Though I didn't want to add too much soot as in the videogame, just a small amount. This is challenging to photograph, as it always looks lighter than it does in person. Just know that the soot is much darker than it looks below. I think I may go back and drybrush even more on the feet.
Lastly, here's the body and outfit with the "Maiden in Black" head sculpt.
Here are some close-up pics:
Regarding the body comparisons, as I mentioned previously, this UD videogame body is a tall body. It is taller than the S26, S24, and S37. It is
probably shorter than the S42/S52, but, honestly, I was too lazy to check. I didn't want to remove the figures from my shelves, nor did I want to have to censor them. I also compared it to the popular Worldbox AT020S male body. I think the UD videogame body scales well next to male bodies.
In conclusion, I think the UD Videogame body is suitable for characters with those proportions, i.e., some videogame characters. 2B from Nier Automata, Tifa from Final Fantasy VII, Samus from Metroid, etc. Really anyone with a medium chest and large behind. The seamless, moveable fingers and toes are fantastic for kitbashes where that feature is needed. It worked out great for my "Maiden in Black" custom since I really wanted that toe articulation. I can even have her in a sitting pose like the reference pics and gif above without any issue. The only downside to this body is that it is expensive, with a price of $200 with all the optional upgrades. I would definitely get another one of these the next time I need a seamless body. Though, that might be a while. Lately, I've been using Worldbox female bodies, particularly the AT203.
Well, that's pretty much it. My next build update might be postponed for a while as I'm waiting for the BBK Female Knight to release. But that kitbash will be fun.
