Eph, I've not seen one with an LED, but that doesn't mean one hasn't been made.

I have seen many torches (flashlights) that are just static and I have thought about making an LED one, but came to the conclusion that, because a battery has to go somewhere, anything I build would have to have a couple of small wires coming out the back and then hidden on the figure. Of course, the other ends of the wires would have to attach to a small battery somewhere.

Even though some batteries are tiny now, there don't appear to be any small enough to fit inside of a hollowed out 1:6 flashlight. Then one has to have a switch.

LEDs are kind of interesting to work with, too. You have to have a bulb that will handle the voltage of whatever battery you decide to use. Too much voltage and "POP" goes the LED.

Hopefully someone else will have better information for you.

I made one! I used one of those cheap ‘flickering’ LED tea light candles and fed the wires through the doll’s clothes, but I’ve also found you can get super cheap LED earrings that run on really tiny batteries that are part of the earring itself, so that means you don’t have to deal with wires or bulky battery packs.

I did a tutorial ages ago for the old version but I later replaced the LED and wires with the earring.

LOL I just realised you meant a totally different type of torch! #fail
Funnily enough I did buy a pack of mini torch key rings which look great, but the only problem is that you have to keep the button pressed to keep the light on. :/ If I manage to get more of the LED earrings I’ll try to adapt one to work differently!

I think the best way to make a 1:6 flashlight is to use pin batteries. They are popular in the fishing industry and some come with attached LEDs. Last time I looked they were only available with red and green LEDs.

But now it looks like they are available in white as well. They come in two diameters: 3 mm and 4 mm and a variety of lengths. The longer they are, the greater the battery life.

Found it! They are 35 mm long which is ideal for a 1:6 flashlight and activated by simply depressing the LED. They are deactivated by pulling the LED back up again.

I want to get some for myself but I'm in Australia and shipping these from the US will cost me $27.50. If someone could help track these down to a Chinese supplier with cheaper shipping, I'd be grateful.

These only light up while you are holding the button down. You would need to rig up a way to keep the LED activated while the figure was holding it.

OK. I've got some of these and have had a play with them. Looks like they will make viable flashlights. All I have done so far is paint them with black enamel. A housing made from a metal tube might improve the appearance but they look pretty good as is.

Very Nice and Small, Great Info. The other point of a 1:6 Torch is the Lumen. That´s need for the Atmosphere.

With a bit of modding they’d make excellent candles! You could sculpt on the wax with epoxy and add some cellophane ‘flame’ at the top!

Real candles are better. This is made from the wax tapers that churches use to light their candles. The main problem is that they only burn for 5-10 mins so you need to get your photo shoot set up and all ready to go before lighting them.

IMO the cool-white ones are very bright - ideal for a flashlight. If you want to reduce the brightness then you'd use a warm-white LED or a yellow LED like you have done in the above photo. They are cheap enough; get one and see for yourself.

Here is where I bought mine.
https://www.ledbobberlights.com/

Pack of ten, $3.40 each.
Pack of two, $5 each.

Use the coupon code, 'bobber15', for a 15% discount off your first order.

Yeah, I agree that real ones are better, but the flame will always be out of scale and as you say, they’d burn up super fast!

Ahh, Yesss. Your selfmade torches are absolute wonderful, Christine. The old Style Torches i made are Wodden Sticks dipped in Wax. The other option are Little Oil lamps. What i´m searching for are modern torches. But in this thread it´s good to get informations about all styles

Beautiful shots, Ephiane. All the more impressive that you are careful and coordinated enough not to set your whole set on fire (as far as I know) -- Smile
