Just wondering why make a gold version? Who the heck is going to buy that when the Silver one is "movie-accurate"...

Poor sven ole thorsen does not deserve such a shoddy head sculpt. Ever since conan, he was in schwarzenegger movies to me, what stan lee was to marvel fans doing cameos. In my early fan years i didn't even recognize how many times he accompanied arnie, conan, running man, predator... this was a passed chance to get a doable thorgrim head for his thulsa doom henchman role. Heck i'm into blunt weapons in any fantasy game thanks to the hammer wielding dane

Yes, the head sculpt is not a winner, and actually seems to echo one of their versions of Russell (or someone else's version of him). I'm not really interested in the set, but it is otherwise made pretty nicely. HH and HaoYu products have been of pretty good quality, even if they are often based on unrealistic films or other flights of fancy...

As a recreation of the movie character, it is pretty good. As a representation of historical gladiator gear, it is silly. The components look to be decent quality, though. If I see this parted out at a reasonable price, I might get it for kitbashing.

I don't get why people are coming down so much on these headsculpts, thogh I know tastes differ.  They look fine and appealing to me, with the caveat that Gold and Silver are too similar for the duo set to make sense (forcing one to wear the mask, I guess).

Haoyutoys aren't doing themselves any favours by creating several confusions in their "money shot" final pics (which I tend to rely on, especially because the auto-translated inventory lists can be wonky).  But only the "money shot" for 8036A shows the mask/helmet, which is (historical or not) the main cool thing about this figure.  I do like the way that it can be worn mask only, top only, or both together.  But the "money shots" for 8036B and 8037 do not show the helmet(s).  Though their inventory lists mention helmets, if ordering, I'd be nervous about that.  

For that matter it took me a moment to figure out that 8037 is the set of two.  Even there, the "money shots" are weird.  I take it that the combo set only has two identical rectangular shields but each of the singles has both a rectangular and a round shield?  And the 8037 combo only shows one, flat base (despite two figures) in the "money shot," and doesn't mention any base at all in the inventory list, while the single figures show a "scene platform"?  Thankfully I am spared stress and confusion since I've avoided these Haoyutoys Gladiators entirely.  I'm a big fan and constant purchaser of their Roman Soldiers, but their Soldiers and Gladiators seem to be separate worlds apart.  I was only tempted by their early "Hunting Ground Fighter," because really, who can resist a severed head as an accessory?

The closest historical gladiator you could make from this is a version of a dimachaerus.

Remove the helmet, shoulder armour, vambraces, shield and probably boots - barefoot or sandals would be more appropriate.

But you'd need an extra sword, since dimachaeri fought with two.

That's so much wastage that you might as well start from the ground up with parts from elsewhere!

In this particular case i guess i'm even more critical since the head would have been the only thing i'd have gotten myself out of the set due to it supposedly depicting said actor.

Head sculpts form in fact the largest item type i bought over the years, switching them on even "finished" figures, given the mood.

So far a small holy grail would be a particular punisher sculpt i had in mind for my vault dweller, making it the fifth swap when i get my hands on it

Totally agree with the above, but surely if we want to consider this as a Sven-Ole Thorsen figure (and I agree that he should have one), the much more prominent consideration obviously should be that he is 6' 4 ½".  The descriptions don't say anything about the figure's height, but I'd be virtually certain he is just a "regular" height figure of @12" with no attempt to do anything specific to this character. or else they'd probably have mentioned it.  Meaning that if you use him looking eye to eye with a Russell Crowe, or any normally tall opponent, that just is not Tigris of Gaul.  If they'd made him Sven-Ole Thorsen's actual height that body would have been a big selling point per se, though the two pack would be weird -- you don't see two exactly 6' 4 ½" guys hanging out together.
