I knew it! These Persian lines were inspired by the Prince of Persia film after all. I didn't care for it enough to rewatch it, so I wasn't sure. But the long-haired Jake G head clinches it. Strange that they did not begin with the protagonist. I'm also enjoying the rather Roman saddle. The look is certainly rather fantasy, heavily inspired by a fairly eclectic selection of Late Medieval/Early Modern Muslim but not specifically Persian armor and equipment; perhaps it is accurate to the movie, perhaps not -- once again, I don't remember.

I like the chainmail too. The horse however is decidedly Not Good. :/

Yeah, the head is nice. I can almost see a bit of John Phillip Law as Sinbad in it — which is what I would use it for if I can find it parted out.

The headsculpt is indeed nice (at least the promos make it look so), and is vaguely reminiscent of the actor without looking exactly like him, so would be good for kitbashes. However, the rest being not fully historically placeable makes it something only interesting if parted out.... not to mention the atrocious 'horse'.

Might be easier to judge if these companies were to give more details about what specific time period their figures are supposed to depict. Sometimes with these releases it's unclear whether they are basing it on a historical era or if it is a composite of historical- and film-inspired items. I'm thinking of the recent 'Caesar' figure, which turned out to be heavily inspired by Rex Harrison in 'Cleopatra', for instance.

Last year a company called Heng Toys produced 3-5 sets (depending on how you count) of "Persian" figures, inspired (or perhaps I should say very loosely inspired) by either the film Prince of Persia or the movie game. These were beautifully ornate and ambitious (including an -- undersized -- battle elephant), but were in effect a mishmash of generic Islamic armor, much of it from later periods and distant places (e.g., Mughal India). Given the various collaborations between companies and name variations for what is actually the same one, I did not know (and still don't) to what extent this is a different line and a different origin (although at least on the surface of it, Heng Toys and HH Model+HaoYu Toys need not be the same outfit, the theme and initials are a little suggestive). That said, I agree that a lot of this (excepting a few elements of which the sword is perhaps the most notable) is drawn from earlier (pre-Islamic) Persian traditions in armor and metal-working. But then the Jake G head sculpt points back at the movie. Like Sky said, hybrid origins, at least. Whatever it is, it remains a beautifully detailed set, except maybe the horse figure.
