1/6 scale horse armor custom for Skull knight from [Berserk]

Go down  Message [Page 1 of 1]

I'm starting a new custom build horse for Skull knight from my favorite graphic novel Berserk.

Previously, I tested him on my old Steed (borrowed from Nazgul from LOTR)

Skull Knight is too big and the horse has short neck/Legs than it should.
It won't look right - proportion-wise, but I want to try anyways.
Maybe I'll find a way to enhance it on the way.

So I've started building the armor parts in 3D

Still WIP, and I'm running 2 projects at the same time.. My goal is to update every weekend -ish.

Very cool looking armor for a horse. Have you considered one of those Mr. Z Draught horses that came out about a year ago? Those things are huge. Though you’d have to shave off the mane to get that armor on.

Mr. Z horse is nice but too thick.
This is reference I'm building.

I think the Nazgul horse looks pretty damn good actually, at least in that shot you posted. Berserk is one of my all time favorite manga series, and so I'm really psyched to see this come together. That 3D rendering of the armor looks tight as hell so far.

WIP update..
Still more parts to print (and reprint), and checking the scale and fitting..etc.
A couple more weeks to go

This guy in 2013

This is amazing. I have several questions. What 3d software are you using? What brand of 3d printer do you have? Are you doing these projects in a factory Studio warehouse or a company high end 3d printer akin to the ones at custom auto body shops?

3d software : mostly XSI (RIP..) & Maya
3D Printer : Anycubic Photon (DLP) - It's still not cheap, but I'd say it's affordable for the output quality.
I'm just doing it as a hobby in my garage (with ventilation set up) Very Happy

Attaboy.

That's looking damn nice.

I'd love to add a 3D printer to my hobby list, but I'm afraid of my wife...

That printed armor looks incredible! I can't wait to see this painted.

And for the record, that berserker armored Guts is seriously one of my favorite custom figures I've ever seen. I remember when you 1st posted, and it just blew me away. To this day, I've been waiting for someone like ThreeZero to make mass market version. It's seriously a grail figure for me, and yours is flawless.

Great work!! I never have the patience for CAD/autocad etc.. Love the helmet you designed for the Guts armoured figure.

Laughing Yup. Took me a while to convince my wife. The price point became much lower these days + I only print over night in garage.

Thank you. I ditches the CAD and switched to regular 3D tool. Much easier and faster Very Happy

Got pushed by 1 week due to work crunch.
Printed out most of the parts now - including new head part to go with head armor.

Looks like I need to figure out how to connect these parts. Probably leather and chain..etc

I wonder how the Skull knight sits on those spikes Very Happy

Had to extend out the neck a little bit. It will be covered with black cloth material.

Overall shapes and parts. I will work on the cloth material and parts connection next.

That is really cool. That armor is incredible. Love the chest piece ( tongue ). Are you going to extend the horse's legs like the drawing?

Really!?!  I hadn't heard anything! Couldn't find any pics, but I'll keep my eye out.  So excited for that!!!  Thanks for the heads up.

Wow! I can't wait for to see the final version.

By the way, your prints look like they have a very smooth surface. None of those grainy layered ridges like you see on other prints. Which printer do you have?

Like ZombieKev, I am impressed with the print quality. And the whole complex project.

*1 more primer - sanding pass
*Head modification for LED + battery box + Switch
*Black paint layer + Silver paint +Top coat
*Leather straps connecting pieces
*New Cloth draping and weathering pass
Done over 2 weekends and now it's complete Very Happy
*Sorry for quick masking on sides of images. The 1/6 horse and Knight is too big for my photobox. I had to trim out the sides a bit..
The horse in the graphic novel is larger, skinnier... but I had to draw line somewhere to do this.

Damn fine work on many levels. I'm most impressed.

It looks excellent; don't change a thing.

The more realistic proportions of the horse (vs. the drawing from the graphic novel) lend much more credibility to the entire project.

Holy hell, that's beautiful! I'm completely awed. Such a big Berserk fan, and you freakin NAILED IT. The Skull Knight is such a huge figure, and the horse still looks perfectly scaled. Incredible man.

Thanks for nice comments!
Now I gotta find some space to display them together.
Gotta decide if I display them with other horse-riding figures or with other Berserk figures.

I’d stick with other Berserk figures. That would be appropriately bad-ass.

Full disclosure,
I DO have a small black pug and she DOES have to endure costuming at times, but t I found this on the net. It is not my creation.
Anything that inspires 1/6 ideas is all good, IMHO!
