Hmmm... I reviewed a couple of their earlier knights but these don't seem to be an improvement. There are plenty of cool and useful elements, yet every set features one or more things that are either extremely unusual or completely fantastical, and make the set look silly. I will let Dan tell us if there was ever such a thing as the sword in the first set. The second set is particularly unfortunate. To focus on one thing, each helmet has something weird to it -- the tilt of the top on the first one, the smiley face effect of the apertures on the third one (although in principle it is not completely impossible), the cockscomb crest on the fourth one, and the second helmet in its entirety. I suppose they want to make their designs a little different and distinctive, but in the process I think they are undermining their product. And is it just me, or are their sets now lighter on accessories than before?

The greaves on the first knight look weird. Is this a misinterpretation of the splint type? The second knight's coat has a peculiar design that does not seem European at all. The riveting on the coat of plates on the third one is odd.

That said, I think if they were parted out I might pick up some of the stuff.

Agreed on picking up parted out elements. Most of the greaves are bad, except maybe those on the third knight. The tunic of the second knight may be made from luxury cloth imported from the East, in which case it probably ought to have even more ornate detail.

I see what you mean. If he was on the Crusades then it would need to be finer and more of it! In Europe (he looks German to me, but could be a Baltic knight or one from one of the smaller European states) I think he would wear his own arms and colours for identification on the battlefield.

I've seen a similar sword before but didn't think it was European.

What have they done to the shin greaves?

The mail coif is very bad so never take off the helmet.

Crossbows at the time had wooden bows, not steel ones, but I like the look of it.

The last figure has an armoured surcoat, which I've never seen in 1/6 before. It is a little crude but a decent attempt. The best depiction is on the "sleeping guard" reliquary from the Wienhausen Monastery in Germany.

How come these figures always have flails with a chain just long enough to crush the fingers that are holding it? A little shorter or a little longer and it would be fine.

That's insane. I am actually planning/working on a knight with a pigfaced Bascinet and a breastplate or brigandine covered in blue fabric with silver studs. A bit similar to knight #1 Although the rivets feel oversized.

I think the tilt of the Bascinet is an optical illusion because of the tip's length, in frontal view it might look even. Was interested to see how detailed the attachment of aventail to helmet rim was, but they kinda cheated there with no holes to attach it.

The green one's helmet looks out of place.

I kinda like the Vincent D'Onofrio with a stache. The pig face is cute and I like the armor overall, again with the fabric covered cuirass, although not sure how it is attached.
And history had much cuter smiley helmets.


The last one I don't really  like. It's awesome he has a metal plated coat, but the large flat rivets look weird, like Neodymium magnets holding the metal plates.

Chainmail on all of them looks kinda fluffy, but 1/6 chainmail is 1/6 chainmail. And some weird weapon choices, agree.

I am not sure, didn't some robin hood figure wear one?
Well and there were quite a few lamellar suits, especially on eastern warriors.
And there are these Chinese eight banner uniforms, which are made to look like they are older plated coats but are actually cosplay dress outfits for 16th century Qin dynasty parades, with no metal plates but just the rivets for fancyness.

Oh an look, these medieval builders were real jokers, hiding astronauts.

I generally wonder why flails are so popular but we see so few other blunt weapons.

Holy cow, where did the astronaut come from. Thanks for the images Ovy, I guess there are all sorts of atypical helmets (admittedly most of them come from the late, tournament-style armor) with rather comedic "expressions." I'm not used to looking at those. I'm sure your "pig-snout" helmet will look a lot more realistic. I have the 1:1 version, actually, probably my favorite.
