Why shouldn't they be called 'luxury' when they are not mass produced like Hot Toys, but limited runs of essentially custom figures?

If I had the spare funds and space, I'd get all the variations. Love these two characters and actors!

But sadly I am still super broke these days, sigh...

They do look spectacular. Even the open mouth head sculpts look surprisingly good! Fans with the budget must be thrilled. ^^

They look excellent to me, too, although I have not actually watched the movies. Just occurred to me that an ambitious customizer could create younger Dooku (horrible name!) and Tarkin characters with these heads.

Dooku isn't any more 'horrible' a name than any other silly Star Wars name, but whatever. Rolling Eyes

That aside, yes, these two were great friends in real life, and one of the many reasons Sir Christopher Lee accepted the role as Dooku was so that he could retroactively play another SW villain 'alongside' his late friend.

I'm a big fan of Hammer Horror and this was the movie that started the Hammer Dracula series so it's pretty iconic. Wish I could afford both (or rather all!) versions, but I shall just have to wistfully gaze from afar... ;p

If the experience of their Bela Lugosi carries over, the sculpts and the accouterments will be superb (and they look that way in the promos) but the coffin may be a disappointment.  I didn't look closely enough at the Lugosi promo pics, so when I got the Lugosi coffin, I was somewhat disappointed to see the "brass" handles and ornaments were just sculpted into the resin. This Chris Lee coffin might not look satisfactorily real, more noticeably so especially as it has glossy white paint, as opposed to Lugosi wood texture, and its ornaments are more simplified and a brighter color, and again, evidently resin not actual brass nor usable/movable.  If I decide to get these excellent figs I will nevertheless certainly pass on the coffin.  Anyway once I already have a coffin, I don't plan to need another, unless it's 1/1 and a long time from now.

How about his much cooler Sith name? Darth Tyranus? Sounds a hell of a lot better and not like a duck...
Anyway, love the Lee stuff but Cushing's HS's don't look like Cushing to me, 3 sculpts and 3 fails to me; okay it's been a long time since I watched these films (nearly 30 years.. affraid ) but I'm pretty sure he didn't have severe plastic surgery between the 50's and 70's.

I can see some of Cushing in there, but to be honest I don't really have much of an appreciation of what he looked like at that age.
Darth Tyrannus is better than Count Dooku (which sounds like something a potty-training-undergoing infant might come up with, loosely inspired by Count Dracula), but it still seems just too over the top comic evil guy stereotype to me -- like Mr Burns grinning and cackling and wringing his hands in amusement over his nefariousness.

I do agree that the Peter Cushing likeness is not as good as it could be, but it's still nice to see this character in 1/6 form.

As for the name thing, honestly most Star Wars names sound silly when you say them out-loud long enough. Palpatine? Jabba the Hutt?? Bib Fortuna?? I mean??? Razz  Heck, the guy in the Outlander club who tries to sell Obi-Wan the deathsticks in AotC was purposefully named the most ridiculous name possible: 'Elan Sleazebaggano'. Laughing

That being said, 'Dooku' means 'poison' (or at least is similar to a word that means 'poison' in Japanese). Just like the 'Jinn' in Qui-Gon Jinn means 'spirit' or 'hidden' (like the word 'djinn' in Arabic). These names are purposefully 'on the nose' and meant to summarise important aspects of these characters.

But ultimately, I don't care if Star Wars names sound silly because Star Wars (REAL, OG Star Wars, aka Prequels and Original Trilogy) is supposed to be a bit cheesy. I say this as a die-hard Lucas-era Star Wars fan. I can find tons of beauty and deeper meaning in Star Wars (and have made many serious analyses over the years), but I *also* LOVE the silliness, it's something I embrace about it. :')

I think what’s throwing off some of the Cushing likeness is the face is too full and not as lean as it could be. That being said, I still POd the Exclusive.

I ordered the Deluxe Dracula. I have much love for Hammer Horror, and Horror of Dracula is definitely one of their best. I agree with others here that the Cushing likeness is off. If it was as good as the Lee I'd be getting both, because his Van Helsing is so iconic.

Thanks for the film stills for comparison. Yes, the Cushing head sculpt is a little off, but I don't think by much. Especially the more neutral head looks pretty close to the source.

Sky, I know the naming is supposed to be on the nose, but it cheapens things for me, like too much plot armor, and overly naive plots. Lucas himself is quoted as saying he wanted to stay away from the then popular spacey science-fiction name cliches "like Zenon and Zorba"  (neither of which is actually atrocious, and for some reason both are Greek). Let's see... (of course, the following observations are completely subjective, even if I have a thing for names and for languages and this is me at -- almost -- my most judgemental)

Palpatine is almost ok, although a little too transparent and a little too "English adjective" for my taste (maybe drop the e or provide a more classical word ending -- or even make it Greco-Persian, in one early script the emperor's name included Xerxes!); the much later retcon first name Sheev is not ok at all (yeah, I know, Shiva, Lord of the Dance, LOL, but it doesn't work, especially with the silly English double-vowel spelling).

Greedo, should be enough said in itself; it is too silly and obvious to be taken halfway seriously, and combining this with the more stereotypical alien look (for the time) exacerbated the effect. They could have done a bit better with a slight change of spelling, e.g., "Gridu," while still making their point.

Han Solo - actually ok, although Solo is pushing it and they made retcon fun of it in the spinoff movie, which was at once deserved and overly cheap.

Luke and Leia, even Anakin - ok, though one might get pulled out of the fantasy if realizing they're Biblical (and the first two obviously fairly common in English) - so are Endor and Yavin. Lucas made a point of wanting to make names match particular cultures and origins, so it makes sense that what ended up as twins (but was that always the plan?) share a common language name origin (I forget when it first appeared, but Amidala/Padme doesn't really work in relation to those).

Obi-Wan "Ben" Kenobi - Obi-Wan might be a reference to Japanese names or rather titles, which makes sense given the inspiration for the Jedi Knights (supposedly even Jedi comes from Japanese jidaigeki, a term used to describe samurai films as a genre); Kenobi is even more transparently derived from Cenobite, a term describing certain types of monks -- the monk analogy makes sense, but the proper term for a hermit would have been Anchorite, since Cenobites worked as a community (koinos + bios, "common life"), which is the opposite. Being more transparent (and more inaccurate), Kenobi works less well for me, although it is not nearly as bad as Greedo.

Jabba the Hutt - I think Hutt was in there since the start, in possibly different form (at one point even the emperor was a Hutt but Hutt at the point was almost certainly not the non-humanoid alien being we are used to). It's ok, even if Spaceballs managed to make proper fun of it with Pizza the Hutt. I actually like Jabba enough. It is not overly obvious, but it is derived from a different thing altogether, still slimy, but actually closer to his food (you are what you eat, right?) -- in Slavic languages the somewhat similarly pronounced žaba means "frog."

Bib Fortuna - the Fortuna is too Latin (and consequently too Romance) and takes us out of the alien fantasy world. Bib sounds childish, especially juxtaposed with so classic (and classy?) a word. Not the best combination, although somehow it doesn't grate on my sensibilities. This is actually in a special class of names, possibly actually retcons, because they are not used in the actual films (but they needed to name the toy something).

Boba Fett - Bob A. Feet is the joke on this in Robot Chicken. Another silly one, but not that awful. Probably better than Bib Fortuna, at least.

Bossk - Eh, it's ok. Not used in the film.

Zuckuss - considering it started as "Tuckuss," acceptable. Not used in the film.

Elan Sleazebaggano - at least we are spared this name in the actual movie; it is possibly retconned, just to have a reference to him, or maybe name a toy (did they make one? I don't know or care).

Qui-Gon Jinn - this doesn't bother me, although the mismatched combination of references to Chinese and Arabic is not ideal (but the same sort of thing can be said of Obi-Wan with Ben with Kenobi).

Dooku comes from Japanese doku, which does mean "poison." And although it sounds only slightly different, the Japanese word is much more acceptable to me. Again, maybe my quasi-linguist disdain for the double-vowel oo in orthography (besides being almost exclusively an English thing and poorly adapted for other languages) kicks in, but combine this with the shortness of the word and it ends up being very silly, like a word an infant would make in trying to approximate something else. It was also offensive in some Romance languages and had to be altered in their versions of the movie (and no, one cannot always take such things into account).

Chewbacca - it works pretty well as an alien name, and in isolation who's to say there is anything implausible with it. I would have stayed away from the overly English letter combination "ew" and replaced the c's with k's (not a fan of the letter c, which I consider an Etruscan abomination). Supposedly "chewbacca" was a modification originally going back to Russian sobaka (pronounced "sabaka"), meaning "dog." Which would make sense, if one realizes the character was inspired by Lucas' faithful Alaskan malamute named Indiana (who shows up as the dog-inspired name of "Indiana" Jones). By the way, when I was first exposed to the name of this character, it was via the French rendition "Chiktabba" or "Chiquetaba," which was apparently inspired by an interpretation of "Chewbacca" as indicative of "chewing tobacco." I actually like that rendition better, but by now the original English form is too ingrained in my mind.

Jar-Jar Binks - both the name and the character are revolting; not even the notion that Lucas intended him to be a disguised Sith Lord manipulating events can fully salvage this grave lapse of judgement.

I appreciate the name compilation, GF, but since you are determined to never have anything positive to say about the Prequels, there isn't much point in me discussing the subject further (especially on a thread that has nothing to do with it, really). Of course, I completely understand that everyone has strong opinions on what they consider to be 'real' or 'better' or 'the only good' Star Wars (myself included), so I don't have a problem with that. But  I've tried in the past to explain my perspective and it seems to not really make any difference, hence why I'd rather not continue replying.

Back on topic, I'm just so excited about these. I don't even care if they are not exact, I rather like the fact they are essentially custom figures and not totally perfect. But then I'm also not purchasing them myself and just enjoying gazing from afar. Laughing

What on Earth did the above have to do with my opinion of the Prequels? As a bit of a Star Wars fan, I simply noted my issues or outright disappointment in the choice of names, not specific to any part of the franchise (as it is an issue common to much of it). In fact, I did not single out the Prequels, and I forgot a number of additional examples.
