Hi all

I sold a few bits over summer and took the plunge to order a 3D printed land rover from Paul Monaf over at Solo 3D Studios here in UK. I am not disappointed....these pics are current progress (still got long way to go). Use of superglue, filler (which is wet still here so once dry I will sand it down smooth) and then once ready I will coat woth printer resin to smooth it out. The axle and wheels were designed not to be moveable, but zo have found some pipe clips which are the right size, so will use those in order to allow the axle to be held whilst rotatable

That's pretty cool. Looks like some time will be needed to smooth all the print lines, but the details are really good.

It's going to be a big one.

yeah, I am using fine filler for main cracks, but using printer resin, brushing it all over in a fine coat, as seen multiple videos doing this, and works a treat, nice smooth finish and also strenthens the model Smile

Whoah, that’s cool. Should be cool as hell once painted up and weathered. What a cool build.

thanks all- here are some latest pics and a figure in for scale.....resin should arrive today which i will use to level out printing lines (hopefully....been advised best way).

One thing pointed out to me after i had glued and had filler solidify - was a MAJOR error Sad i have put the cargo bed on the wrong way around!!! Too late to change as it will break the model if I do....BUT once it is loaded up with kit hanging off it, like they did for real, it hides it

That’s too bad about the cargo bed, but as you say, loaded up should hid that error. Looking good so far.

I see what you mean by having the back end the other way around.

The filler works pretty good as frame sealer, especially on the bottom of the Landy. That undercoat stuff used to keep the water out of the welded body seams.

Is it going to be SAS, or an SASR Land Rover?

Yeah, filler worked well, used on main chassis and underneath as well as superglue. Found some nato stone spray paint to use as well. It is SAS one from Gulf War 1

thought you might like to see some more progress. 1st coat of NATO stone has been applied. This was actually real land rover spray paint, and supposed to not need a primer...but it did. So I need to get some more to do another coat. Seats have been sprayed, as have the wheels, and will also redo hubcaps with nato stone.

Added some dark green camo as I've seen on reference pics too....hope you like. I like progress so far, yes it could be a lot better and will keep updating it, but my first experience with a 3D model and have had learning curve.

Currently trying to see if I can save for a 1/6 3D printed BMP-2 haha...but don't think will be able to

Very cool. The paint really makes it look great.

Occasionally older Land Rovers would pop up for sale as surplus vehicles from the Canadian/British training base in southern Alberta. And quite often they were painted just like this, with these colours. Many had been brush applied, or spray painted in the field, so the paint jobs always looked a bit crude. So making the the paint look super smooth, or properly spayed would actually look quite odd in this case. It adds to the authenticity of the paint work. I almost bought one, but parts were hard to find for those models here in Canada, and the vehicles were pretty abused, so I never did buy one.

Just need to chip, and sand the paint in the wear spots, and it will look awesome.

I spy the Mitrohkin Archive on the shelf. What a long read. Not super exciting, but great historical reference.

Thanks - yeah, I have seen some with a crude looking paint job, as you say, with the "camo" parts added by hand usually in the warzone, so blemishes might look ok.

hahaha yeah, I got the book when it first came out. Took me a looooong time to get through it, as heavy reading, but as you say, great historical reference
