I don't mind at all mate post away. He does look fantastic, I'm still on the fence about getting the corporal as I just spent out on my 1-1 suit, but this is swaying me toward it again.
If I might suggest, the thigh armour needs pushing up the leg just a little bit, so you can see slightly more black at the knees.
I do love these guys.

Nice acquisition, Stryker, he looks great, and I would say a fine addition to your SW collection.

Paul, did you just confess to getting the 1:1 armor? I hope we get to see plenty of that (remember, as long as you're holding 1:6 troopers etc in your hands while posing in it, it would be totally appropriate here). Wink

I can't decide whether it is good or bad how we are enabling each other with our posts. Smile

Well yes I did get a set of Shepperton Design Studios Battle spec armour. It arrived yesterday, so I have been busy padding the inside of the helmet so it will stay on my noggin, and a few adjustments/modifications I was advised to do. Boots and Holster arrived today, neck seal should be here by the end of the week, maybe even my first troop out on Saturday if I have everything reasonable by then.

I will have to arrange to get a friend round to take pics, as I really won't be able to in the armour lol.

Paul

Paul -- Congratulations. And you should invite some of our British members to come over and help out. Smile Or if you are meeting the troop anyway, I imagine there would be plenty of people who would be more than happy to help.

Now there is an idea, I don't none which of my British OSF compatriots lives close by, but if anyone wanted to pop to see me (and my collection of course) I am sure something could be arranged.

I will sort out some pics anyway regardless, but I can't say when exactly I will be able to get some taken.

Thanks for the links Mark.  That looks a pretty accurate set of armour and at a good price too.  As I found out whilst researching my own armour, there is a lot of work that goes into building up one of these various armour kits which is why I went for a ready made set.  I have found that there is a lot of intensity from some around how to make a kit up, and how the strapping and the parts are all held together is done, particularly in the UK Garrison of the 501st legion who require your costume to be cleared by them before you go to their events Rolling Eyes   The group I joined are far more relaxed about it all, but I still want to have a suit that from the outside looks screen accurate.  I just changed the plastic belt for a more correct canvas one for example, but whether the suit is held together with press studs or velcro is neither here nor there for me Laughing

I am still working on getting some shots of me wearing the armour and with some of my 1/6 characters, but it is near to impossible to take photos whilst in the armour due to the restricted movement and vision.

I guess that would explain why born and bred soldiers couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn, but a kid born on a farm could beat them easily. Razz

Interesting. Paul, I remember seeing somewhere that 501st Legion approval is based on whether the overall look is correct rather than whether the materials and underlying structure are movie prop-accurate. But perhaps I misunderstood, or the UK regulations really are more stringent. I mean, while you were part of the EU, there were regulations on the curvature of bananas, right? Sorry, just my attempt of a lame joke (though this has been held up to us as an example of silly EU regulation).

Yeah definitely. You can't really sit down in it, you can bend forward a little bit but if you drop something there is no way you can pick it up easily. As far as vision goes well the Ewoks did so well because anything less than 3"6' in height can't be seen at all once it is closer than about 8" away and you have a bit but not much peripheral vision. oh yeah and that sight on the top of E-11 blasters, well its pretty much for show as you can't really see through it with the helmet on.

Its an experience to wear it thats for sure.

Paul

I think the UK Garrison is particularly pedantic about it. Here they look at every thing minutely even down to things like how the joints on the leg and arm pieces have been made, they have to be butt joints not lapped I believe.  That level of accuracy would be ok if I was deciding to do it for myself, but not when it is someone else telling me I have to have it that way  Laughing

I'm not knocking them and I know that they do a lot of free work for charity, and produce some great research into the uniforms etc... but I think here in the UK they could be a little more inclusive.

I have talked to a couple of 501st members from other countries and they seem a lot more relaxed about things to be honest.

I have no intention of joining the 501st here in the UK.  I was in a group that looked at authentic costumes in a similar way to the 501st do here when I was reenacting American Civil War a few years back.  I won't say that that sort of strict ruling on what is ok and what is not breads elitism, but I don't like the person I became when I was part of it.

Paul

Sounds like the same problem I ran into playing volleyball in a bar-league. Some teams were so anal retentive about every tiny rule, it took the fun out of it. I mean, seriously, we were playing on a bar league. Half the people playing were already a little drunk... “They hit that with the flat of their fingers, not the tips!” Yada yada yada! “Dude. He’s drunk. I’m surprised he hit at all.”

Yep, that does sound too pedantic (and I say so as the self-styled emperor of the four corners of the pedantic universe -- perhaps I've been an impostor all along). Interesting that your have reenactments of the American Civil War (aka The War Between the States or The War of Northern Aggression). Must be interesting ... from a British point of view that ought to be just a bunch of bloody rebels fighting another bunch of bloody rebels. Smile

Well I like my detail, and even having things correct where no one sees, but 501st UK stretch it that bit too far for me.
I think too that they have a difficult relationship with Shepperton Design Studios due to their own links with Lucus Film and now Disney and the law suits which have gone on with Andrew Ainsworth.
They certainly don't recommend SDS for anything, and I suspect I would have a hard time getting my armour through clearance simply because of where it comes from.  They ask the make of armour as part of the clearance process here.

Still, instead of spending the next year building an armour kit to a minute level of film accuracy for clearance, i'm out trooping in a great set of armour anyway Laughing  Laughing  Laughing

I loved reenacting The War Between The States  when I was younger, used to bore people with the level of detail I would go into Shocked Shocked Laughing   I loved that it was photographed (although I learned quickly that the camera does lie Rolling Eyes )  and the diaries from the ordinary soldiers.  It meant you could build up a good knowledge about the life of the common soldier at that time.

You would think that Great Britain would see it as rebels fighting one another, but there are all sorts of political vested interests here in the UK at the time which make it very interesting if somewhat more complex a relationship.  But thats a discussion for another day and thread lol.

Now Sand Troopers?????

Interesting discussion and I'm sorry I missed it. I know a few Civil War re-enactors and, while very nice people, they're a bit...how shall I put this gently...obtuse. They do get down to the minutia (or bogged in the damn weeds, where I come from) of everything up to and including the thread count in a blanket. That's a gear I ain't got...but harbor the same thoughts about organized religion, so no further elaboration is needed.

Just do the right thing and it'll all be OK.

I think it's great looking armor and pretty damn cool, to boot.
