I've never been particularly taken by high-end 1/6-scale renditions of cats -- they are fine, but when you're working with something this small, the results don't seem to be that much better than some other, more mass-produced toys of the same thing. And they are all sculptures anyway. But some of these look pretty sweet to me, especially the first one. Let's not forget to note the slightly surreal scene of aged Leia and the cat with the old Chinese stairs backdrop and all those tiny dry leaves. Nicely done!

Though I have no interest in most of these smaller cats, my concern with any of these is the fragility of the whiskers. I bought two of the JXK Leopard/panthers that had them, and the way they were packed, many of the whiskers were bent, and sort of gnarled up.

Agreed. I can't see much difference between this and the cheap plastic animals that you can get in a toy store.

To me, this model is the most appealing of the three posted tonight, but yes the whiskers are an issue.

Previously, I’ve noticed that many of the 1/6 cat models (in general, not just Mr.Z) tend to be in sitting positions, so I do think it’s nice they made some in standing poses.

Personally I think I'd prefer just a plain old mixed-breed tabby cat.

1. The modelling of the fur doesn't need to be so precise because tabby cats have a range of fur types.

2. It would be easier to model the features because you aren't trying to exactly copy the characteristics of a specific pure breed; i.e there is more room for error while still having it look realistic.

2. It would be more versatile - being able to be reused over and over in a greater range of diorama themes.

Yeah, a more generic cat (or ‘moggie’ as they are called here) would be more versatile, but I was trying to find some things to be positive about in this case.

Mr.Z make very nice 1/6 animals, but as we have seen, they do sometimes fall short of the expectations that they themselves create when they advertise their products as depictions of a specific breed. The degree to which this might bother people, however, likely depends on how much they know or care about said animal breeds. For some it might be too distracting, but for others it might not be noticeable or a big deal at all.

I do love Mr Z's commitment to cat breeds. I agree that the cheap plastic ones you can get at any toy store are almost as good, especially considering the price difference, but still a lot of fun to see. I'm still waiting for them to eventually do some Devon Rexes, which I have 2 of, and will definitely get them my money. Of course I still dream of someone doing pose-able cats...
