Hi all ive been busy making my second character a Gladiator. I have cut away part of the top of the head to thin it down and expose his ears added a real beard and hair and have hand made the costume from real leather, pins and nail heads for all the gold bits and i sculpted the helmet too and suprisingly it even fits his head well. Smile I thought id share a few pics of him, so here he is my gladiator character all finished yay Laughing What do you think i think he looks ok for a beninner. Razz

Great work, Steve. Knowing where you started with the head, this is quite an achievement. And it worked out remarkably well for a first try and for trying to apply relatively short "real" hairs. I did not realize you made the outfit and helmet from scratch until I read the details. That is very impressive! Overall, a very cool and striking custom figure. Can't wait to see what you do next -- with it or another character.

You did an amazing job. As the Guv said, reading that you made everything is truly impressive. Nice job on the head, costume and helmet.

Really nice job! all of the armour that you made is already impressive enough, but the fact that you actually attempted doing short real hair and beard, and pulled it off so well, is even moreso.  Smile

Well done on all counts, Steve. Tyler looks great, and so does his sofa. And since you will be asked (and mentioned you are still working this out), what did you do for the tattoos? New guy's even shorter "real" hair is another impressive achievement. What material and glue are you using?

The tattoos were printed out on waterslide tattoo paper and sprayed with acrlic spray but they dont work very well. they look ok at first but after you bend the body about they crinkle and come off so best put on after you put the figure in its final pose. The cross on his arm i used a size 0 permenent sharpie but again the ink dont stick that well. I realy wish there was a way to do permenet tattoos that would stay were you want them. Neutral

As for the hair on the very short hair the hair is just long pile fur fabric and the glue is strong white tacky glue that dries clear. i just put a thin line of glue on the head spread out some cut hair to stick along the glue strip then while holding it in place used my finger to rub the glue in along the roots as such and press the hair down flat to the head. It worked a treat. I also cut the hair as i went so could keep it short and flat to the head. Wink I then used as dylute brown acrylic paint and water to dye the hair brushing it in then as the paint and water dries it keeps the hair in style.
Best wishes
Steve Wink

Nice technique on the hair! I bet a material like viscose would also work for short, straight hairstyles.

And I feel your pain on the tattoos with the seamless bodies. I don't think anyone has found the perfect solution yet, but your attempts look good all the same!

Wow! That short hair style looks great. I’d like to see a video tutorial on how you did that (hint hint).

Thank you, Steve. And I second Mark: given how well it worked out and that it is a somewhat complex process, if you got around to a video tutorial on making the short hair, it would be most appreciated.
On the bright side, if the tattoos are not permanent, they are undoable/redoable, and that might be a good thing. Especially with someone with commitment issues like me Wink

your scratch-work on the gladiator is remarkable, looking forward to more originals.
and the hair technique turned out really well.... keep posting!

edit: shazzdan has some illustrations of subligaculum in this thread--

you might consider swapping out the blue undies for something like this (just a thought)

Thank you for all the kind words everybody. Embarassed I would love to do a video on how to do do the hair but i havnt the means to do it and the camra on my phone is pants lol But mabe one day.

With trying to make characters from my game that i have created in game ive made over 200 so far so got lots i can chose from to make lol Its just a case of finding heads that sort of resemble them that i can work with to make them sort of look like them. At the mo ive got two more im working on the paratrooper with the realy short hair the plan is to having him hanging down with his parachute tangled in a tree. but need to figure out how to make realistic enough 1/6 scale jungle plants and leaves for the tree etc for the scence.
Anyone know how to make mini realistic plants or were i could get 1/6 scale plants from? scratch

The 2nd is a Dark angel type character that I made the leather lace up trousers for. Im awaiting bodies and a few bits for both so i can carry on with them. while I still look for other heads and parts that i can use for other characters. I want to do some of them just as normal characters with there everyday wear jeans and T shirts etc but finding there party outfits as such more fun and interesting lol

I have also decided I would like to make a few rooms such as a living room, kitchen bedroom etc to stand on my sides as little displays too even want to make a mini working tv for the living room using an old phone for the screen. to many ideas and not enough money or time to work on them lol

best wishes, Steve Wink

For 1/6 scale plants — jungle leaves, and trees, etc. — take a look at pet supplies for terrariums. It might not be perfect, but unless you can scrounge some branches off real trees, it’s an option.

Some of the little plastic plants for aquariums can work too.

That's some amazing work! I'm always in awe for those custom rooted hair, that's such the finest level of realism!

Super cool character in all aspects! (and he could come handy in another style, he really looks like Colin Farrel in the coming "gentlemen" movie from Guy Ritchie!)

Great gladiator! He really looks dangerous.

You have done a great job on the face, his beard really suits him! And the leather gear is top notch too!

Can I ask where you got the slightly unusual underwear from?
