That is underwhelming. Is it all in the paint?

It can be argued either way.

It's a piss poor sculpt compared to what was shown.

OR

It's a piss poor paint job. I'm sure there will be those who'll say it's not a problem and spend a couple of hundred dollars getting it repainted considering the figure costs $200.00 + USD.

Yep. Glad I canceled my PO w/ SS; this is not good. With their close ties to HT, you'd think they'd at least be able to use the same factory, instead of going to the same one used by 3Z & Star Ace. Their prototype was actually really good; clearly, between the elongated/narrow shape of the head and the poor paint application -- it's not just a bad paint job.

Doesn’t look anything like the promo pics in terms of both actual sculpt and paint job. Without knowing manufacturer, if I saw this head sculpt on eBay, I’d expect it to be in the 15-20 USD range and probably less at auction. Mediocre.

Sideshow refunded my NRD and Reward Points.

But not before they tried to tell me they thought the figure turned out really well and that I should see it in hand first. (With the option of returning it for a full refund - which would just mean wasting money on shipping, VAT and Duty).

They even attached a photo of the one they had in the office, which looked just as bad as all the other photos people have taken.

Sideshow cannot afford to pay the use the same factory as HT.

From what I recollect reading online some time ago, HT have their own dedicated factory that they control. Though not very well due to a lot of "one off" head sculpts coming out of the factory at times being sold on eBay.

Those head sculpts are done by those working on break or through lunch.

Last I checked, they cracked down on that so that is one reason we don't necessarily see much "custom" and "clone" head sculpts on eBay of recent prior figures too much anymore. It still happens eventually, but not as prolific as it was in years past.

This goes back to a position / stance I have.

We all need to maintain consistency in our demands / expectations from 1:6 brands. Sideshow have lapsed immensely over the years in design and quality. Don't ever feel compelled or be convinced to "cave in" with them. If it's not to your liking, then cancel the PO, etc. Let them know with your wallet by not spending money on it. The same applies for other brands as well.

While I agree with this stance to a degree, I don’t like to hose retailers with product they may not be able to move. Now, since Sideshow was not only the retailer, but the manufacturer, I had zero guilt calling them out for a bait and switch when I canceled this. I was able to cancel Furiosa, only because, as we all know, Timewalker gave folks an out. Unfortunately, I won’t be leaving them with the equally bad 3Z Ghost in the Shell figure. But, I learned my lesson, and won’t be POing anything from 3Z ever again.

You are more noble 1:6 collector than I my friend. I absolutely respect your perspective / stance.

Besides, friends are allowed to disagree. If we can't, then what good will it do in the long run . . . more or less.

Have you tried clearing your cache and history? Sometimes I find that works.

Just tried it. No change. It is happening with all of the recent threads with DFC's photos. I'm guessing it is his image hosting service and that it is a different service to everyone else's because their photos show up fine.

Hmmm. How long did you say this has been going on in regards to just Chung’s pics? I’ll see if the Guv and I can figure it out.

I've gone back to an earlier thread and his GITS photos are still visible.

Those photos are hosted by https://i.servimg.com

Are the photos in this thread hosted by the same service?

Okay, that’s weird. I’ve got a pm in to GubernatorFan, letting him know what’s going on. He may not be awake, yet (and sadly, I must admit, I’m not the most tech savvy); so we might have to wait a bit for him to get back to me. Sorry this is going on. Can you give me more details on what type of device, browser, etc. that you’re using? Any and all details may turn out to be important. Thanks.

Yep. The head sculpt is just as crap as he said. Looks more like Eugene from Walking Dead.

Edit: your photos are not hosted on the same site.

Your pics are hosted on https://i.servimg.com

The GITS photos are hosted on https://i.servimg.com

I'm guessing that the above photos are hosted on neither of these.

The two "different sites", might just be "Chung's Folder" and "Stryker's Folder"; same site, but using 2 different link addresses, since anything one person uploads to servimg goes into their specific folder.

I see all the images just fine and was going to suggest the same cache-clearing solution. It is especially confusing that some Servimg images work and others do not. Let's try to figure it out and then clean up all the tech back and forth afterwards.
