Let's go off the beaten path a bit today, with a look at the latest James Dean figure released by Star Ace. This is him from his final film, Giant, and I'm looking at the deluxe version that comes with a terrific sixth scale horse. Check out my review here:

or you can find it with the rest of the reviews at the usual:

Thanks for reading!

Thank you for the detailed review. As so often these days I only got a few parted out pieces, but it was nice to gain a better appreciation for the whole set. It does seem to be one of Star Aces' better works where the sculpt is concerned (which is not saying very much), but the way the clothing adds up is indeed disappointing. The hat in particular looks pretty bad to me -- I think it would be more accurate to say there is a specific angle from which one way of wearing it would look ok. The horse does look pretty nice, too bad it is just a little on the small side.

Thanks for the review! I can see what you mean about the outfit. Agree though that it seems ok enough for Star Ace. ;p

Yeah, it's a decent looking horse (as 1/6 horses go), but it's definitely undersized. It's more or less a copy of the (also undersized) Mr.Z Hanoverian, just with a different neck position. Jean Ross pointed this out recently on FB:

Here's a pic of them next to each other (Mr. Z at far right of image, James Dean horse in middle):

They did actually remember the black legs on the bay coat colour (which Mr.Z forgets sometimes), so that's something... ;'D

Thanks Sky. I'm liking the more neutral pose of the James Dean horse. Of course, especially at a lower price, one can collect a whole herd. Smile

Lovely horse, but that bridle...oooft. I wish the manufacturers of these things would actually pay attention to how tack works! The saddle is surprisingly nice, though the back cinch is positioned a little too far back I think.

Bridles seem particularly perplexing to 1/6 manufacturers... Laughing
