NEW PRODUCT: AUG TOYS: DL002 1/6 Scale Dune - Gurney Halleck

Dune is a legendary Hollywood science fiction masterpiece created by Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. Pictures and directed by Denis Villeneuve (director of Arrival and Blade Runner 2049), the new godfather of science fiction films. The film is based on Frank Herbert's well-known science fiction novel, starring Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Oscar Isaac, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Zendaya, Chang Chen, Jason Momoa, and Javier Bardem.



Gurney Halleck is a House Atreides commander. In addition to his steadfast devotion to the Atreides family, he is an accomplished fighter and bard who is skilled in a range of fighting techniques, particularly the use of melee weapons such as daggers and shields. At the same time, he is engaged in a variety of artistic endeavors. Naturally, he quickly became an essential mentor to Paul, teaching him all he needed to know about fighting with his army, including how to utilize protective shields and daggers. Despite the fact that a shield may offer excellent protection, a well wielded dagger can also breach shields. Gurney taught Paul this lethal move in order to help them battle their conflict with the Harkonnens. Despite the fact that he lacks communication skills, he considers Paul to be his own. In the course of protecting his family, he has gained a great deal of battle expertise, earning him the title of "Master of Weapons." After leading the family to Arakis in accordance with the emperor's wishes, Leto, as the chief officer, increased the rigor of Paul's training while also keeping a close eye out for any danger.

It has been built by AUG TOYS to be 30cm tall with more than 30 moveable joints, based on the form and dimensions of Gurney Halleck from the film "Dune," and it has been meticulously recreated to match Gurney's body shape. At the same time, the AUG TOYS production team will meticulously recreate the texture, substance, and line ratio of the battle armor featured in the film Atreides in a 1:6 aspect ratio; in terms of head carving, A wax-like painted head model based on Josh Brolin's character Gurney is included. In terms of accessories, in addition to 8 interchangeable hand-models, the AUG TOYS team intentionally revived the short knife and defensive shield switch that were featured in the Goni film, and it is also fitted with desert scene modeling as well which help with players’ collecting efforts.

It looks really good. But I saw it listed for $260, and I'm just not sure if it's that good.

It does look good, but very bulky for futuristic armour. I don't remember it being quite as unwieldy as this but maybe I was caught up in the story. I really enjoyed the movie and look forward to the next part.

Yep. Head sculpt is ok and movie costume is a decent representation. Too expensive for me though.

It's nice. Not a bad representation, pricey though, for molded plastic and a jointed body.

I'm holding out for a still suit. But looks like it's going to be expensive.

They actually are pretty bulky. Brag alert!!!... I had a sneaky try on of a stuntman version last month at a studio I was working at. (I also tried on Christian Bales bat helmet. Boy, does he have a small head!!)
I'd imagine Josh Brolin's suit would be even bulkier, as he's a pretty stocky guy.

Great movie. Roll on winter!!

This looks great! I especially like the head sculpt. I don't remember the guy though, admittedly, so I don't care for how well they captured him.

I am also waiting for the stillsuit though.

It's an interesting part of my job too. I'm often surprised by who is nice and who are awful. The people who seem nice on screen, are often ego maniacs, and the angry looking, "artiste" actors are actually really down to earth. 
I've seen some impressive tantrums in my time too. 
Some of them aren't the brightest sparks either. Occasionally I have to explain how a mechanical set piece works, if the actor needs to use it, and with some them it takes a good few goes to hammer it in.

Who have you met/chatted with? Any nice/nasty experiences?

This was around 2004. I sat with Alexander Siddig for a day. Kind and beautiful soul I'd say. Jason Momoa was wild fun, especially at the after party... Ryan Reynolds is another super friendly guy and very approachable. I think Aaron Douglas was also there and a pleasure. I didn't get beyond a shy hello at the bar though.
Patrick Stewart was a joy at his panel. So was Marina Sirtis.
Some, who I was most looking forward to, were a disappointment. They were flying a little high on their popularity, being the most popular, yet spending the most time away from their table, causing a huge line-up. Not cool. But I don't want to drag up old dirt so I won't name them.
Those are the ones that stand out in my memory.

I met Momoa through work too. Super friendly guy and a good sense of humour.
Weirdly I met Reynolds in a hostel in San Fransisco in 2008, before I worked in props. He was hysterical. We ended up drinking until about 7am. He never explained why he was in a hostel and I got too drunk and forgot to ask.
On the subject of surprising nice guys. I worked with Michael Ironside, 80's favourite psychopath. Absolute gent. Really lovely guy, and so nice to the crew. We had an overrun day and he personally bought a huge selection of takeaway food for the crew and ate with everyone. 
Also met the Firefly crew at pinewood. No idea why they were there together. There was nothing Firefly related going on, and this was years after Serenity. I think maybe a London comicon thing down the road?? Gina Torres is lovely, and way more bubbly than I thought she would be. Baldwin is really funny. Nathan Fillion is super nice, but much quieter and more reserved than I expected. Very funny storyteller though. All of them nice and they actually seem to all get along, which is often not the case.

P.s. totally forgot...met Reynolds again in 2018, and he remembered me!...by proclaiming..."hey, it's you, the idiot who did a shot of tequila in the eye". He later joked, "you're welcome, for me inspiring you to work in film". (Which he didn't )

I mean they are all actors. They might all just play roles in reality too. You can never trust them!

Oh, the figure. Yeah the armor is a bit bulky, but nice brutalist design there. Not sure these were ever used in combat in the movie? I think during the siege Gurney fought in uniform, T-shirt or Pyjamas. I mean they have shield belts and walls anyway.
I always imagined Gurney to look more like Iggy Pop or Mickey Rourke, but Brolin was a great cast. Missed opportunity giving him his iconic mysterious instrument.

That's cool that you had a good experiences meeting celebrities. Back in the 90s when I was doing P.I. and private security work I had my own dealings with celebrities, and I found most of them (like Sylvester Stallone) to be arrogant, self-absorbed a-holes who I decided I didn't care if they got killed or not. Stopped working with them and started working with private citizens instead (far more lucrative and a lot more dangerous). I don't pay attention to celebrities anymore outside of enjoying their movies (the more I learn about any of them, the more I hope they all die in car fires as they really are little more than organ-grinder monkeys who are grossly overpaid to play dress up and pretend.) Hell, I can even enjoy the occasional Stallone movie, even though I found him to be obnoxious and irritating.

I'm a freelance scenic carps/artist/prop maker. So I had absolutely no right to be trying on costumes, especially for films I'm not even working on! but if they will leave these things lying around, unguarded...

Truth be told, I've pranced around a few movie lots after hours in borrowed movie costumes. They tend not to care, so long as it isn't a principle costume and it's not super expensive.

True, they are all actors, but some definitely don't wear a mask off screen. A certain young lady wizard I met a few years back, I can honestly say might be the worst person I have ever had the misfortune to meet. Entitled to the n'th degree. She certainly wasn't turning on the charm behind the scenes!!
I can't speak for all the stars I've worked around, but a lot I've spent weeks or months with, and you can usually tell who the genuine ones are, over time.

Same, I had a scrawnier, older, more ragged actor in mind, but you are right. Brolin nailed it.
It is a nice armour design. The bulkiness doesn't bother me one bit. If I had the spare cash, I'd get this in a heartbeat.

I've seen some truly cruel, venomous, monsters over the years. Some are just plain bullies and psychopaths.
The nice ones are few and far between, but there are some really nice folks among them.

Funnily enough I'm an ex security specialist. I changed career 7 years back. I used to moonlight in close protection, 20 years back. I guarded Victoria Beckham (a clinical moron btw! No NDA there ) For a few weeks, but I mostly guarded rich oil baron's kids while they blew huge amounts of daddy's money. Those folks were worse,  actually!

Interesting discussion. It occurs to me, you can all just name all the celebrities you encountered and then provide a separate list of the ones who were nice. One of my assistants back in the day had run into Kurt Russel in a supermarket and had a very short but nice conversation, mostly about ice cream and what he should bring home to his wife. Given the action figure's subject, any experiences of Josh Brolin?

Sadly no. I have met most of the cast of the goonies too, just not Brolin. He's the proverbial sticker missing from my goonies sticker album . I fear he might be in the negative experience group, however. So maybe the old phrase, "never meet your heroes", applies here? 

Haha, nice tactic with the lists. I'm still going to give it a miss though. They have great lawyers, and it's hard enough finding work lately!

In the response to his untimely death, Paul Walker was brought up as an example of a thoroughly nice guy. Among other stories, someone noted that Paul had overhead a serviceman trying to buy an engagement ring for his fiancee but not being able to afford it, so after the guy had left the store (I'm assuming paying for a less expensive ring), Paul went and paid for the one they wanted without telling them. They found out afterwards. Or something like that.

Completely understandable concerning NDAs. I refused to work with Sly after I saw how he treated people, and conversations with him. Many of those people, much like pro athletes, have had their butt’s kissed so long, they really have become naricsstic tools. My better paying clients weren’t oil barons, but they were people who had a crap ton of enemies, and they were far more respectful of the people who held the safety of themselves and their families in their hands. (Probably not the most scrupulous folks in their “previous lives”, but we made it a rule not to get to know them well, if at all).

You know, there is a reason I like the headsculpts of custom characters more if they are not instantly recognizable as the actors they are based on.

For your profile's sake I hope Viggo Mortensen and Carrie Fisher are/were good people though. They seem like nice ones.

The Halleck figure looks quite decent, but I'm still on the fence whether I should preorder any Dune figures. Their Paul Atreides also looked acceptable, but if I order him, I want a Chani and possibly a Duncan Idaho, too. That said, is their any information which charcaters they will cover?

Did anybody order this one? I don't think it's out yet, but photos might help *some* people to decide whether or not to pre-order the Duke...

Good question. I haven't seen any pictures of the prototypes side by side, which is a shame. I would hope that they used different body types to avoid the clone look.
