While the movie supposedly isnt that great, I do like this figure and the design. I may get one, there are not so many futuristic looking Astronaut figures out there.

Not really for me, but looks cool!

I won't be getting this and I haven't seen the movie, but I think it looks excellent. The rendition of animated characters into effective 3D figures is sometimes a big challenge, but it looks like they overcame it, and perhaps the style of the character lent itself to this.

It’s unfortunate that it didn’t come with one with just hair. I wonder if you’d be able to add a realistic head sculpt?

I would presume you could modify it to take a regular head. I think the biggest challenge would be to see if standard heads would look proportionate on the body.

Too bad there isn’t a Tim Allen head sculpt out there to add to it — to give a big FU to Disney for not having him do the voice.

Although the armor reminds me a lot of Warhammer Space Marines and it seems I am not the only one who thinks that, it's been quite the joke in the community and there have been many customs.

Those are awesome Warhammer customs. That’s a Toy Stoey movie I wouldn’t mind seeing.

Those Warhammer customs are super cool.

Technically this is not so much a "great, great translation of the chubby cute toy into a more "realistic" direction", but kind of the opposite.  The "Toy Story" version of him is supposed to be Andy's toy which was supposedly a cartoon-ized sold version of the <real life guy> we're seeing now in Lightyear.  Obviously that's just a nerdy footnote.  It is genuinely intriguing to see Pixar and now HT thread the needle to make the exact style decisions of something more realistic than the Toy Story movie, but still not fully so.  To my eyes there's a little Uncanny Valley there.

It would be great if HT at collectibles level followed the same path Mattel followed at retail level, and made a Lightyear Space Ranger version.  (See here: https://onesixthfigures.forumotion.com/t5730-mattel-pixar-lightyear-space-ranger-gear-buzz-xl-01-for-itself-or-custom-parts#81221).  I say this because for me, the white/green spacesuit is too irredeemably locked exclusively to Toy Story, but the Space Ranger version would be more free as a figure for my general imagination.  I'd probably buy an HT Space Ranger, though he's already in my 1/6 world twice, from the $30 Mattel 12" version, and the more general custom I made with his spare parts.

I'm not even a Toy Story fan but I really digged this guy. I think they did a good job. Depending on finances I might get him but he's waaaay down in the priority list.
