Sad the way a communist country has absolutely no qualms when it comes to copyright and trademark infringement if they believe it will give them a marketing advantage in a capitalist system.
Even more sad: they get away with it, and we keep buying their stuff.
More sad than that: we keep buying the stuff from one communist country so we can make models of characters from another communist country wearing knock-off name-brand Western sportswear, while simultaneously claiming solidarity with a country that one of those communist countries is presently bombing in to oblivion.
We all talk a good story on Twitter, don't we, while telling a different story with our purchasing choices.
But that's a bit of a tangent, I suppose, and probably pushing the line when it comes to appropriate forum content, so never mind.
I wish somebody in the EU or the USA or Japan would start
making things again!
I wonder why they didn't blur out the faux-Pokemon... Faukemon... characters?
That's some serious digital airbrushing on that chick's abs, huh? And dig those eyes in photo no. 5, luring us in to their limpid depths with digitally enhanced come-hither-ness as she reminds us that "my eyes are up here, and just imagine what it would feel like to snuggle deep into my cozy golden Canadian maple leaf sportswear."
Shoes not included? Just as well; I'd want the ones with three stipes on 'em.
You're not wrong. Noble as we think we are, we all contribute (often from our high horses) to problems in our society, especially with our purchasing choices.
Though I'd say, the collectible market is small fry compared to the steel, petrochemical, industrial plastics market, etc. All which our countries outsource to said countries.
Looking at my collection, I realise it's all either official, or unlicensed, but I'm sure, like most I've bought some other sort of "hokey" goods somewhere down the line.
Don't throw "communist" around so lightly either. I've spent time in both, and neither country you refer to, is even close to that. Both are authoritarian, and actually extremely capitalist countries. They might losely wear a socialist mask for their masses benefit, but their actions are about anything but socialism.
Communist is also just a good label for our media/govs to use to make them seem even more "different" from us.
Not defending copyright infringement, but..
I also wouldn't be too protective of these western brands. Many of them are more than happy to underpay said countries to produce their products, often to shocking degrees. Only to mark those products up to us by a huge margin for ridiculous profit.
My wife is a product developer in fashion, and she despairs at the stuff that goes on. Even in supposedly ethical, or "green" companies. She's been tearful about it frequently and would quit in a heartbeat, if my freelance paycheck wasn't so unreliable!
But as you say, this isn't really the place for sociopolitical discourse. So better leave it there.
On the subject of the outfit. Those patches really ruin it for me. (The dodgy licensing doesn't help either).
